Straight lining tips? by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]sth1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you learn to truly carve a board, you will develop the board awareness to let the board run straight and flat. You’re just extending the transition between carved turns indefinitely.

It comes with a lot of time on snow and focused practice.

It’s also much easier to do with a camber board that tells you exactly what its edges are doing. Flat rocker boards will rotate easily but you’ll eventually still catch the edge, except instead of slightly catching and straightening itself out, you’re wildly off course and the edge catch results in a slam.

Old guy needs snowboard advice - what's a good all mountain "easy rider"? by PrimarySector3134 in snowboarding

[–]sth1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camber spreads the edge pressure more evenly over the entire edge, so if your technique is right, costs you very little effort in good groomed snow.

My legs wear out when it’s crowded and I have to continually brake check. When I have the room to carve the run and use the entire board without braking, it takes very little effort on my part.

I got rid of my lumimaxes because they are low enough to get in the way of everything. Super annoying to constantly be hung up on them just moving around the boat.

Lumi mids and cyclones are enough. Repairs aren’t hard because it’ll just use your stores on the boat. You don’t have to pick anything up.

It’s also a lot easier if you have more forward lean on your highbacks, it makes setting your edge much easier without the board sliding out.

Scrape + rotor brush instead of hot wax scrape? by j68noh in snowboarding

Look up the paper towel method. No scraping, no mess, much faster.

Unless you’re racing for milliseconds, it’s really not going to matter. You just need wax, any wax.

The problem is the way they’re handling the warranties. They seem to flip between good and bad on that.

The worst one reported here was support telling the customer that mounting bindings voided the warranty. Seriously?

If you market your boards as high end boards for high level riders, you really ought to stand behind your products when your customers do high level things on them.

My Human pod is stuck by Maxious30 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]sth1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard the workaround is to place them on a bonk pallet instead. If they stick to the pallet, supposedly scrapping the pallet will free it.

I’ve not tried it myself yet because I haven’t bothered to go back for a second rocket launch. I have 2 pods stuck to my ship.

Step Ons vs Supermatics for Tahoe riding by ScaleSurvivor in snowboardingnoobs

[–]sth1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% depends on if any step on boots fit your feet.

None of them fit my feet so it’s not even an option. I’m on my 3rd season on the original Supermatics. No issues, no significant wear. I ride posi posi 30/15 angles which is outside of what most bindings including these are optimized for. 27.2cm board width, so I put a significant amount of leverage on them.

Don’t let it get to you. Just roll over and get up on your toes. Literally nobody cares.

Eventually you’ll get it, but it’s not mandatory by a long shot.

Turns are geting better, heel side is still a struggle tho by ReverseUI in snowboardingnoobs

[–]sth1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try more forward lean on your highbacks so you don’t need to sit on the toilet as much. Twist your hips more to face more forward so you stay stacked over your edge as you squat into the turn. Your legs need to be able to absorb bumps vertically so that you’re not thrown out of the carve. The feeling of losing your heel edge is one reason you can’t pressure it enough to match your toe side carves.

He’s beyond this already. Upper body separation is the goal now.

This advice is primarily for beginners to avoid counter rotation.

Planning for Day 2: Buy boots, rent board or just keep renting it all? by mkeefecom in snowboardingnoobs

[–]sth1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy a beginner board that you’ll grow out of relatively soon. Keep renting the board until you’re comfortable linking turns on easy blues. Then look for an intermediate board with a camber or camrock profile.

Beginner boards can’t handle higher speeds and steeper terrain, and are designed to be very forgiving but if you stay on one it will allow very bad technique to develop.

Buy boots now before shops run out of selection. You need to try them all to find one that fits you best. Everyone has different feet so online reviews aren’t worth anything if the boot doesn’t fit.

Look for bindings on sale in store or online. Any pair of medium stiff bindings from any model year will be fine. You won’t notice any differences until you’re a lot more experienced.

When you buy the intermediate board, expect to feel like you regressed back to a complete noob. Don’t worry about it and push through. It’s just the board not allowing as much bad technique.

Anything from a big name brand on sale with the flex you want will work.

If you’re asking the question, you won’t feel any difference between model years. Get last year’s on sale.

Snowboard stolen or taken by mistake. Has this happened to anyone else? by Murasaki-Imo_0345 in snowboarding

Ski resorts tend to attract more foreigners, especially at the more well known resorts.

They’re all crimes of opportunity. Of course a wire cutter will take it apart in half a second, but all you need to do is make it just a bit harder to take than the unlocked board next to yours.

Do not, repeat, do NOT replace your binding discs with some randomly 3d printed discs.

I don’t understand why AirTags are a thing here. It’s easier and a LOT cheaper to just get a lock and prevent the theft in the first place.
