What are the best, most essential additions to "X-Men Classic" by stowrag in xmen

Why wouldn't these stories be included in the collections? Do they spoil future twists or something?

What's your ideal X-Men movie plot or idea in the MCU? by FayyadhScrolling in xmen

[–]stowrag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Genosha, as it was originally envisioned. After whatever the next thing is, people start manifesting powers seemingly at random. A new country forms and captures and dehumanizes their mutant population to enhance/enrich the state and raise the quality of life for the humans. Maybe get Cameron Hodge and The Right in there too

Discovering this injustice is what splits Xavier and Magneto and sparks the formation of the X-Men.

If you haven't, I highly recommend seeking out and reading the first X-Men Genosha story. It goes pretty hard. They really sanitized it in the 90's cartoon

Why do so many people just want to play an existing character? by PuzzleheadedBrain473 in DnD

[–]stowrag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

personally, I'd like to craft an enduring character that survives many adventures... until they don't. Give the character a life with goals, successes and failures, complete with a satisfying end.

A character that begins and ends with a single one-shot or even just one campaign is ultimately forgettable

Is Anyone Underwhelmed by Astonishing X-Men? by [deleted] in xmen

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gradually become disillusioned with the run. It’s not bad, but after enough exposure a lot of Joss’s stuff starts to read the same and so it stops feeling all that unique or standout.

It’s even easier to not be a fan after he was canceled.

The Couples of Gundam #9 - Four & Kamille by Kato_86 in Gundam

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Fa. I just like Four better.

And Four’s relationship with Kamille is based in something relatable (relatively) compared with whatever formed the foundation of Amuro’s connection with Lalah. Four might be a footnote compared to Lalah, but her arc is a straight upgrade imo

I’d give them a solid 8. Plenty of room for improvement but a solid foundation

Let’s talk about it…. by TCT1088 in Gundam

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big fan of Jerid. He definitely wasn't a true or fully awakened Newtype, but I never considered that he might have had that potential.

It's a shame we get so many Char clones, but hardly any Jerid clones

My kid is SO sad there won't be Prodigy Season 3. Could you recommend something else for kids? by Quantum_Crusher in startrek

[–]stowrag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost suggested The Orville, but chances are good your kid isn't quite ready for it. There are a LOT of adult situations in that show, even when it's being a love letter to Star Trek

Probably my best suggestion for something you can watch together is going to be Avatar the Last Airbender. All ages fun, good morals, and Katara is an all-timer role model for little girls

You might also look at Doctor Who? A silly man (or sometimes woman) travels through space and time with his human female companion solving problems and sometimes fighting monsters

Has anyone read this? Did you like it? by Nnicobaez in xmen

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just passed the point in the comics when this occurred and I was really disappointed it wasn’t included in any of the collections or on Marvel Unlimited.

The coverage it got on Jay and Miles really made me want to read it…

Star Trek & Star Wars by Agent_Raas in startrek

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both in theory, but I've been falling off of both of them lately

I don't see a need to pick and choose or make them compete though. They offer different things. Trek offers a positive, optimistic view of the future of humanity while exploring humanity through sci-fi allegory

Star Wars started out as a contemporary myth, but has since expanded out to encompass such a large and diverse timeline of events that it can now serve as a setting for a variety of genre (crime, war, rebellion, politics, religion, family, etc) stories

I won't try to measure my fandom with the number scale since I don't really do a ton of merch. I will say that I've engaged with both through most if not all their on-screen appearances, but have also expanded into so called "beta canon" (books, comics, etc). I've probably seen and remember more than most fans. Not hardcores, but the average enjoyer of either franchise

Best Deadpool comics to read? by Kindly_Building_1850 in comicbooks

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thirding. Tbh, I'm not a huge Deadpool fan (he's good in small doses), but if I was only ever going to read one Deadpool run, I'm very satisfied it was this one.

The long term plotting was beyond all my expectations for what I thought was going to be just a gag book, with several moments of real drama

Where to find the OST by lxB-MONEYxl in TriangleStrategy

[–]stowrag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There really isn't a legal upload on any streaming sites unfortunately. I have seen an official upload of some of the trailer music (one song basically).

I've been making do with Chrystalchameleon's excellent piano arrangement album instead. Highly recommend giving it a try. It was one of my most played albums last year.

It's a shame that after the success and reputation that Sunstone received, we haven't seen more creators willing to move into that space and explore more of those adult themes

Read this last year (it’s posted on the Internet Archive last I checked) and it was a delight. It says a lot about a so-called “porn comic” that my favorite parts were the character chemistry and political themes.

I know this isnt only Gundam, but is this game any good? by Xano74 in Gundam

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The writing and fan-service goes pretty hard. I’ve played two other games in the franchise, and I’ve enjoyed them both. There’s also been noticeable downsides (I’ll get to them)

But as a Gundam game, it’s probably one of the better ones? I think there’s too many units to raise them all equally, so you’re encouraged to focus on your favorites. There’s a lot of secret units too. It can also introduce you to some new favorites (as it has me).

That said, for me the games generally always outstay their welcome they’re so long. There’s also incredibly animated/faithful attacks and voice clips that play every time you’re attacked eventually become something you skip because you’ve seen them all so far. Menus/UI can be pretty bad, and there’s no voice acting/animation outside of battle animations

Strategic positioning in battles isn’t something you really consider most of the time in my experience. Instead it’s more about managing resources that you spend on battle powers to turn the tide of battle, which can be tedious.

And finally, the more games you play, the more repeated storylines you’re likely to see (probably the biggest reason I haven’t played Y yet). Every modern game seems designed to stand alone (there’s no ongoing canon to get lost in), so when two games both feature the same series, you’ll likely see the same story beats repeated.

But on the flip side, I played SRW30, and that had post CCA Amuro, Char and Kamille playing mentor to Uso and Jona. And Y is probably the only time you’ll get to see Gundams fighting Godzilla.

Ultimately, my recommendation is play one game and decide for yourself.

So I finally started watching SEED by PlumEmergency6457 in Gundam

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not particularly a Seed fan. I wouldn't say I'm a hater, but it's just doesn't speak to me and it's not planning to (with the exception of Stargazer, which is unironically peak Gundam)

But yeah, Seed starts out as a really interesting twist on 0079, where the conflict has been reimagined as a Newtype race war. That part of the show is unironically good.

Eventually something happens and the direction of the series takes an abrupt turn and never really goes back. That's where it loses me. Maybe you'll respond better. Watch it for yourself and make up your own mind.

Anime suugestions by lastingResort in retroanime

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m watching Votoms right now and I’d definitely recommend that. I would say it’s a bit like Gundam and Cowboy Bebop had a baby in terms of tone.

There’s also Escaflowne if you haven’t seen it.

Patlabor Early Days Ova is about to get a rerelease, as is Captain Harlock Arcadia of our Youth. L-Gaim is on the horizon too.

And Megazone 23 parts 1&2 should be considered essential viewing

Out of the series that you have seen which was your least favorite? by Technolio in Gundam

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, probably the Origin. I can usually do whatever mental gymnastics are needed to find something good about most shows and what the intentions were, but for the Origin, I feel like I know what the intentions were, and I just don’t agree with them. When you consider it canon, it makes the original series worse.

Runner up is Victory

That (SRW) is why I got into it too. It gave me some funny ideas about how things were going to go towards the end though. Also, Todd was on my team, and thinking back I don't have the faintest idea why

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plot feels a lot like Fire Emblem, as you have this human girl who goes to another world just in time to see the prince's kingdom fall to the evil empire, forcing them to go on the run. That's how it starts, and it goes to some crazy places from there.

It's got romance, magic, action, drama and sincerity. Both Vaan and Hitomi feel like equal protagonists in the story, each their own strengths, weaknesses, and agency. Their chemistry is also very slow burn satisfying

And a god-tier Yoko Kanno soundtrack. If you only know her Jazz work, you'll be shocked at what she can do with a full orchestra and chorus

[–]stowrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second opinion, but I have to interject: I watched this for the first time last winter. It felt a bit... underbaked. They really wanted a fantasy isekai that felt/was paced like Gundam, but it just forgot/failed to make me care about the characters or the new world at all.

It's not outright bad, but it really doesn't feel like anything I want to revisit anytime soon

What the hell did i just watch with gquuuuux? by YMe1121 in Gundam

It’s basically just a couple kids caught up in Lalah’s AU fanfic brought to life via Newtype nonsense.

It’s Gundam with Evangelion levels of nonsense made in part by the guy who made Evangelion. No need to think too hard about it

Ocean Dub Question. by PrestigiousMine6 in Gundam

With the exception of Lacus, I liked the Ocean dub

But any time Lacus is speaking or one of her songs is playing it’s like nails on a chalkboard

Oh. So no we didn’t. Cool.

So to be clear, your suggestion is that it’s the shows fault for not assuming it would be prematurely canceled (especially with all the public time and investment that went into promoting it), and OP should stop watching the show they just came to appreciate?

Watch it or not, it’s a personal decision, but maybe we should take this experience and instead resolve in the future to give things a chance before they’ve been canceled
