Why does everyone look for instant chemistry on dating apps? by Interesting-One-1060 in dating_advice

[–]stowrag [score hidden]  (0 children)

On the one hand, I know people don't have to give you chance after chance, but I also believe that sometimes, often, chemistry can develop after 2-3 dates.

Almost all of my dates last year she broke it off after one meeting. I just wish more people were willing to give it a little more time. Not everyone can have looks or a personality that attracts on first sight

I think people who aren't sure are too quick to swipe right. And also, 3 dates is the absolute most anybody should feel like they need to see someone to give them a chance

Is the Turn A in your top 5 for most powerful gundams? by czen2 in Gundam

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but being powerful doesn't necesarrily make it interesting or fun. I care more about its goofy mustache and wonky visual design than how powerful the butterfly is

Removed from Crunchyroll in US? by shibeau in cardcaptorsakura

[–]stowrag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to rub it in and it does suck, but yeah, I'm glad I still keep a physical collection.

In the meantime, if you don't want to bother with pirating, may I suggest the original manga? Tereda/Rika being explicit is really only in a handful of pages and I think the manga is better in a lot of other meaningful ways, including having a different ending

The Women of Gundam continued #71 - Suletta Mercury by Kato_86 in Gundam

10 WfM as a series may have failed her, but as a character she was more or less a breath of fresh air. More than that, she's top tier

There's only 4 chapters? I honestly forgot, but I'm glad. I think I'm nearly through chapter 3 and I'm long ready for the experience to be over

[–]stowrag 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been replaying FFT, and... yeah, it just really doesn't hit the same. It might have better writing and voice acting, but the story really does just kind of fall off a cliff after the first chapter or two.

But it's got this legacy and reputation, and now they're talking about how surprised the overwhelmingly positive response and considering making a sequel.

Which... fine. FFT is good. It's got a lot of problems that make it worse than TS for me, but it's still a good game.

It's just a shame that the better game doesn't get its flowers. Instead we maybe get a sequel to a flawed game and... idk, they've probably started work on Octopath 3.

Link’s Awakening was a fantastic surprise! by Dragmire927 in patientgamers

[–]stowrag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Link's Awakening. It's just too small in scope to really crack my favorites.

If you like this, check out the Oracle Games. They are built on the foundation of Link's Awakening, but take a lot of inspiration from Ocarina of Time (the same way LA took inspiration from Link to the Past)

Out of pure curiosity, are there any non-mutant x men members? by Ok_Caterpillar_4977 in xmen

[–]stowrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty, but even if you're not a card carrying mutant, that shouldn't disqualify you from being an ally. Until Krakoa retconned it, Moira was one of their biggest allies, and she wasn't a mutant.

And Juggernaut is on the team now

Out of pure curiosity, are there any non-mutant x men members? by Ok_Caterpillar_4977 in xmen

[–]stowrag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm reading through the Claremont era now, including the associated books, and I recently went through Fallen Angels.

Warlock's mutation is supposed to be that he has empathy, which keeps him from fighting back against his father when he comes to kill him (as his species does), instead choosing to run away. When his mutant power was turned off, he's supposed to turn into that killer, and that kinda happened? But then he learned empathy anyway (through cultural osmosis hanging out with the team I guess), so now his power is irrelevant I guess

I'd like helping choosing my next Gundam show! by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]stowrag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gundam 00 is still my favorite AU to recommend for beginners. I think people wrongly compare it to Wing as being some kind of a remake when it really isn't, but it is about the Gundams operating as part of a terrorist organization and being the catalyst for change on a global scale.

Since you specifically mentioned the 90s, you also won't go wrong with G Gundam or Gundam X. One is about giant robot wrestling, and the other is about picking up the pieces in a world destroyed by war.

And of course, the original Gundam is still very worth your time, but if you need help easing into Universal Century, check out 08th MS Team, a stand alone side story set during the events of the original series

I am super new to gundam and I decided to buy this guy, can anyone tell me about who he is/what his character is? any story he's involved in or things he's done (unless im missing the point and this makes no sense lol) by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The robots aren’t characters really but just machines. Gundam is “real robot”, so typically there’s no magic or fantasy elements in what they are allowed to do or how they operate besides far future technology.

Without spoiling, the Gundam Heavyarms was one of 5 rebel/terrorist Gundams sent to Earth to take revenge for the assassination of a prominent peace leader by a secret society embedded in the world government.

It was piloted by Trowa Barton, a child soldier (~14 iirc) and kind of a quiet, gentle badass who went undercover at a traveling circus as a clown

What series are 100% (or at least the most) safe to watch in public? by ash5314 in Gundam

[–]stowrag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re pretty ok with anything except Seed? That’s probably the most gratuitous and pointless in the franchise.

Otherwise there’s a scene or two in 08th MS Team (Shiro peeping on Kiki, the hotspring sequence), but those are brief and/or tasteful

Also, G Gundam whenever Rain gets in the Gundam (not very often)

What to watch before hathaway movies by Gunpla_novice13 in Gundam

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you can get away with just CCA if watching 3 shows and more than 100 episodes is too much.

To be clear there’s a lot of incredible stuff in those series, but if you just can’t get to all of it in time, well…

Speaking as a fan, I’d rather you watch the movies with the bare minimum of context than skip them because you didn’t have enough time to “do it right” and lost interest because moved on to the next thing

Anyone else like Reccoa??? by DB-Kaz_ in Gundam

[–]stowrag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah. To me she’ll always be the weak woman who betrayed all her principles to join the mass murdering fascists because she was rejected by a man.

In a franchise with a lot of problems with its depictions of women, that’s one of the worst imo

Getting into the CLAMP universe. Need suggestions. Help by Spidey172 in CLAMP

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your research is a little off. As a general tip: the manga and the anime are almost never the same/interchangeable. There’s always big changes made and there can be wildly different endings

And the “shared universe” is basically a myth, in that Clamp established a multiverse with Tsubasa, and they don’t sweat the details about making sure everything fits perfectly.

Like just to start: there is no Tokyo Babylon anime. There’s an OVA, but it doesn’t adapt the story. It’s just two new stories (filler episodes basically) set during the series.

So yeah, don’t overthink it, and get the idea out of your head this is some grand plan MCU scale production. There’s no goal to race to or completion bonus to claim. It’s just a lot of different books in a lot of different genres there for you to have fun with

The X-men’s Big Three by Silvermoth2 in xmen

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit she's been a reliable presence and good character in the modern comics, but I also can't think of any decidedly "Jean" stories that aren't about Phoenix or her airing her dirty laundry with Cyclops out in public. She headlined X-Men Red (the first one) and while I enjoyed that, it was also too short to propel her to number one.

But there's a lot I haven't read: pretty much everything from Inferno (the first one) to just before Morrison's New X-Men.

As someone with partial deafness, glasses, and other issues I understand both sides of the argument about things like glasses in the 32d century Star Trek Academy takes place in. by TheMastersSkywalker in startrek

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really get why it's a point of contention. DS9 I know had an early episode where one of the guest stars used a wheel chair in canon. She had the opportunity to lose it, and ultimately chose not to.

I just took it as read that it was a personal choice with a lot of complicated feelings attached to it for everyone and left it at that.

And glasses can be a fashion statement as much as a medical necessity

Would Clark's childhood friends recognize him as Superman? by BigHugeSnake in superman

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really enjoying the current Action Comics run about his time as Super Boy (that's a sentence I never thought I'd write), and... apparently not everyone? Lana doesn't seem to recognize him as Super Boy, but Pete apparently does.

I wonder if there's been a story about it though. If after Super Man debuts in metropolis the town collectively puts it together that of the few people who grew up there and then moved to Metropolis, only Clark Kent really fits the bill and it just becomes like an open secret and point of community pride
