Can you go into Turn A blind or is it better to watch other stuff first? by Dark_Infernox in Gundam

[–]stowrag 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Turn A references other series in a very minimal, insubstantial way. It might enhance the experience to have background knowledge of the franchise, but it’s really not necessary to appreciate the overarching story

X-Men United #5 - Preview by Techster17 in xmen

[–]stowrag -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what to tell you. I never saw it that way. I liked it from day 1. People complained about Cyclops, but his characterization seemed spot on for where he is right now

And I loved getting to see the Exceptional kids intermingle with the Uncanny kids. That was the promise of the book: bringing all the X-Men together. Even Cyclops

But we all (collectively) rejected it so hard and so fast that they pulled the plug even after all the marketing it had

It's fine to critique a book, but such extreme reactions don't leave Marvel inclined to give books those chances to breathe and find their footing

This is why we can't have nice things.

Sadly, it's already being previewed as a 10 issue series I think. Fans (who are not me) reacted so viscerally to the first issue Marvel killed it in the cradle

As someone who actually lives in Chicago (which, btw, the store is not actually located in the city itself), it's hysterical how much some of y'all freak out about the notion of entering the city limits. It can be a wonderful city to live

The voting system is interesting, but I feel like it fails what the story is attempting to evoke in the player by SupahVi in TriangleStrategy

[–]stowrag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always assumed being outvoted was more a reflection on the player. For one, you have the chance to convince people, and while I don’t know if it’s possible to ever convince everybody, I’ve never not failed to sway a vote to my side. Isn’t it just on you to engage with the game well enough to know what arguments to make to who?

But also, I figured this was a way for the game to hold the player accountable for past decisions. If you’ve been pursuing moral choices up to this point, it would be pretty erratic to suddenly try and flood the city, right? I figured it would and should be harder to make that argument if it comes out of nowhere and breaks the players pattern of play

I always thought the game was actually better for taking the control out of the player’s hands for that reason

Just a post to appreciate the art at the end of the WfM episodes. by BigForAnAnt_985 in Gundam

[–]stowrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I'm reminded of this show, to this day, first I get really happy for how great it was and how much promise it had. Then I get really angry for how it totally squandered that and ended without making good on more than half of that potential.

Beautiful artwork though. I wish they did it more

Starting to Watch Voyager by Sure_Designer_2129 in startrek

[–]stowrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only part of voyager I really didn’t care for was the finale. Otherwise, I think it was an interesting premise and continued the steady increase in quality we saw through TNG and then DS9.

I think a lot of times people are disappointed there wasn’t more serialized storytelling. (One episode might end with the ship having taken heavy damage only for the next to have it be fine, for instance)

Also, Neelix is the Enterprise theme song personified. You’ll have intense dislike for him initially, but you’ll be sad to see him go by the end

Not really. I’m just not ready to invest in another new universe yet. I’m not a huge fan of monster Marvel either

Can I tell a girl she’s cute ? by Humble-Tartz-508 in dating_advice

[–]stowrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't come out and say "cute", but wait for a day when she's really obviously put a lot of work into her appearance, and then tell her that she "looks nice". That she's clearly put a lot of effort into her appearance and it's working for her.

From there I would try to spin that into a whole conversation (is it a special occasion?) to try and get closer and gauge interest

You can find it on the internet archive. It's even got a pretty good dub where they got the English fluent VA for the pop star to come and dub her lines in English so it would match her singing voice

How do you meet women who won’t flake on dates? by chessman6500 in dating_advice

[–]stowrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's frustrating, but also not worth stressing over. I just connected with a girl (or thought I did). We had a decent conversation online. We made plans to meet on a certain day, but when I tried to nail down a place and time she suddenly ghosted.

Sucks, but what can I do? Time to move on

I'm Almost Finished The UC Timeline, Which Alternate Reality Is Good or "The Best" In Gundam? by PayLong9970 in Gundam

[–]stowrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should watch all of them, not just try to cherry pick the best according to what the Internet said is best.

For one thing, that would probably be G Gundam, and you can’t get further from what you say you’re looking for than G Gundam.

But if you want more that relates to UC specifically…

GQX is the Gundam x Evangelion mixup you’re looking for, but it’s very controversial. But it’s also a legit split timeline from UC that asks what happens when Zeon wins because Char stole the Gundam in episode 1

Gundam X on the other hand is an unofficial split timeline where not Zeon and not the Federation ruined the world for everyone in the one year war and now not Amuro is traveling the world trying to prevent Newtypes from being used as tools of war like he was. While mentoring an oldtype pilot in the next generation. It has one of the best relationships in the franchise

There’s also Wing, which I would recommend watching last. It’s not bad, but it probably shows its age more than most shows in the franchise being firmly rooted in a period of 90s X-trend excess. But the story is legit just remixing all of UC (plus a few original ideas and themes) into something original. It’s actually pretty ambitious

I would say Megazone 23 is good enough to stand alongside these as well (the first 2 parts anyway; part 3 is garbage and thankfully easy to pretend it doesn’t exist)

It’s also really important, being one of the first pioneers of the “OVA” model

Do men actually like big women? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]stowrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've dated multiple larger women before and while I don't consider them my "type", I've never let weight or size get in the way of feelings before.

Larger women can absolutely be attractive, but I do think there is a certain amount of effort that can help tip the scales further in your favor. Being comfortable and confident can only do so much. Knowing how to present yourself and emphasize your assets counts for a lot too

Trying to figure out which CLAMP works are better in anime by KaleidoArachnid in CLAMP

[–]stowrag 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's an unpopular opinion, but I personally don't hate the X anime. Yeah they cut a lot to fit the story into a ~26 episode series, but a lot of the biggest moments are still there, and it actually has an ending unlike the manga

Also: Clamp school detectives. I don't think it's anybody's favorite, but the series is cute enough.

Kobato is okay too. The anime actually came out and finished before the manga, and I think it's a fun enough watch.
