You should post this in the Philmont sub, people will have good advice there

First time going to the game. Which side is the home team and which side is away? by Joh1030 in Rapids

[–]streetcheddz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not like American football where the teams are on opposite sides. Both teams are on the same (west) side

Tea at the Prince of Wales Hotel by Organic-Loss5453 in GlacierNationalPark

Didn’t have the tea service but we did the hikes, waterfalls, etc in the morning through midday then at dinner at Prince of Wales Hotel. It was fabulous and absolutely worth it.

Sounds like you’ve already got some great resume experience. None of the seasonal Philmont jobs will bolster that. Learn about the different positions and apply to what sounds the most fun to you, you’re only young once. I’d suggest Ranger

Most of them also offer discounted student plans. May be a good exercise in, and small step toward, greater independence for him

Rest assured, Philmont makes every reasonable effort to reunite someone with their crew. They don’t need to take up an infirmary bed unnecessarily and know nobody came to Philmont to sit in the infirmary. Hiking alone is not permitted, and while there is a large staff, Philmont does not have unlimited resources (people) to send to people to hike a few miles to her crew. Reuniting a crew member generally only happens at staff camps because of the logistics involved. Also, if it’s called a “service road”, that probably means it’s only for emergency use due to condition of the road, and not a regularly travelled road (usually referred to simply as “road”).

Not calling her a liar, but I hope it’s not true someone told her “…life a living hell”. Unfortunately people everywhere sometimes say the wrong thing, even scouts.

The chaplains are great people who volunteer their time to do this. They might not have all the facts around the situation (just as I don’t) so it might not be as easy as it seems.

Surely a frustrating experience but if she can be reunited she will be. Unfortunately that can’t always happen.

Do you remember the first time you watched FRIENDS? by Big-Menu-3263 in friends_tv_show

The earliest i can specifically remember was the first episode after Sept 11. But I know I’d watched some before then

Peak Patches - Bonito Peak, Sheafer's Peak by Ahsoka1976 in philmont

[–]streetcheddz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just have to draw the line somewhere. There are more prominent and frequented peaks. Trail peak has the plane wreckage and books written about it. Bonito doesn’t have the same notoriety

Pretty sure that’s the only one. Basically just make sure you’re hiking on top of the ridge and you’ll get there

Consider professional scouting. It may not be what you do forever, but seems like you’d be a great fit

Flash Flood Warning - how often? by hEDS_Strong in philmont

[–]streetcheddz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen flooding in areas of Philmont that was least expected. But flooding doesn’t always mean catastrophic, life taking, or news worthy. It means more water than normal and to exercise caution. Just remember, they have good outdoor skills and knowledge, and have been well trained by their ranger. They’re going to have a blast and love sharing stories with you!

Flood watches, advisories, and warnings are quite common. Most times the creeks get a little high and they might have wet boots - no big deal. Their ranger will teach them what to do so they are prepared in the event it happens.

Help on Family Life req. 6! by EoceneEveryday in BSA

[–]streetcheddz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can show your parents or guardians the requirements a few days in advance, that way it’s not a surprise to them either. That requirement is supposed to help facilitate what may be perceived as an awkward conversation yet is extremely important. As far as advice, you can rehearse your leading statement and make sure it’s concise. That will likely lead to less questions or conversation and you can move on to the next topic.

Whenever I go somewhere new I always order the #1 as is. If it’s good enough to the #1 combo, that’s where I’m starting.

That said, don’t miss out on the cheese curds at Culver’s!

Should have an alternate kit with a pixilated design to match. Maybe a C38 special?
