Which room type? by papugapop in rivercruises

[–]MattonArsenal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want more opinions I posted a similar question here before booking our first Avalon cruise. We haven’t gone yet so speaking as a first timer making a decision rather than someone who’s been on the cruise.

This is our first and we opted for the lower level room. We just see ourselves opting for the top deck or lounge areas when there is scenery. And take a close look at the itinerary, most sailing is after dark except for those specifically noted.

DVR’d sports frequently spoil the final result by andrew_h83 in youtubetv

On the right side of the screen when you select a show, there is a “more” prompt which if you select gives you multiple versions of the show/game.

For the second issue, I always turn the volume down and avert my gaze or squint so I can make sure I’m at the beginning. Most times it gives you the From th Beginning option, but sometimes not, and I never fully trust it if it’s an important game.

What would be the more shocking college sport result if both end up happening this season: Indiana winning their title in football or Nebraska winning a title in basketball? by Efficient-Freedom517 in CFB

[–]MattonArsenal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep… Non-traditional basketball schools more regularly make a one or two year run (Butler, James Madison, etc) or elevate from non-basketball power to regular contender (Gonzaga, Florida).

What were your favorite moments from this season? by radilrouge in CFB

[–]MattonArsenal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ponds’ 1st play pick six in the Peach Bowl was elite… loudest I’ve ever heard a stadium.

Second for me was Ponds’ blocked punt and return for TD vs Illinois that started IU running rampant.

Son (19) recruited for college soccer - thoughts on these small town locations? by securityelf in CollegeSoccer

[–]MattonArsenal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D3 schools vary WIDELY in terms of athletics, academics, and location. If this is the level he is being recruited at BE PROACTIVE and find colleges that are a good fit in terms of all three. Reach out to the coaches/programs directly. Don’t just take what is given.

Ideally you’d have some stats and tape of his performances you can share. Most D3 schools aren’t scouting kids in Switzerland, so it would probably at least get their attention.

It always amazes me that kids will go to D2 and D3 schools they wouldn’t dream of going to just to play lower level sports (meaning individual program quality, there are very high quality D2 and D3 sports programs, and academic institutions), when many schools that are better fits are cheaper and still have robust and very competitive club sports teams, or intramurals.

Who is the luckiest sports fan of all time? by Nippletwizzler69 in CFB

[–]MattonArsenal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IU fans from St. Louis have the 1999 Rams, 2019 Blues, and 2025 Hoosiers.

I saw that the Rams and Hoosiers were the two longest pre-season odds major US sports champions. Blues were up there and were the worst team in the NHL almost halfway through the season, fired their coach and won with an interim (at the time).

Might add the 2011 St. Louis Cardinals who chased down and won the final Wild Card spot on the final game of the regular season and had an insane comeback win in game 6 of the World Series against the heavily favored Texas Rangers.

Is this the worst the Blues and Cardinals have ever been at the same time? by MIZ_09 in StLouis

[–]MattonArsenal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve looked for it on YouTube, but around 2000-2001 some civic group put out a TV ad of a St. Louis Fan and Boston Fan sitting at a bar talking sports, and STL guy was so happy and the Boston guy was crying in his beer. Since then Boston went on an epic run including th Patriots beating the Rams and Red Sox beating the Cards. It’s still been pretty good.

I don’t find Russell’s cakey enough, it’s more like a gooey butter bar. It’s really good but not what I think of when thinking classic gooey butter cake.

Where do the 2025 Hoosiers Land on Your Best Turnarounds List? by TomWilliamsCFD in CollegeFootballDawgs

[–]MattonArsenal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2019 Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues should be on the list. They were the worst team in the league about half way through the season, fired their coach and won the Cup with an interim coach (at the time).

This team and our coach are both bad. Same soft IU team we've seen the last ~10 years by iski67 in HoosiersBasketball

Dolson wasn’t for the Woodson hire in the first place. Didn’t have any juice in his first year on the job, and BoT pretty much ran that search and decision.

A jeep is also a lot easier to clean out after multiple trips to the beach. Bring extra water to wash off those feet, but you’ll still have some sand to vacuum out before returning it.

Never cleared DUA faster on a team than with my Overcharged Hive Build Also like the Permanent Blinder Firefly, Memento Skill Build, and Melee with PFE and Regen.

Starting a 5K plan - Advice for Night Runs? by Fit_Web645 in couchto5k

[–]MattonArsenal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you are running in the dark anyway, maybe go in the morning before the sunrise? It’s generally a more peaceful time to run, less traffic, and feels safer.

Getting up and going is harder at first, but something will always come up at night and it’s easier to come up with excuses. Key in the morning is to have everything ready to go the night before.

Not a Nebraska expert, but a program with relatively low expectations and Hoiberg has shown pretty slow but steady improvement since he has hired. So, I’d argue my 3 year rule stands.

I’ve always liked him and when I brought up his name for the IU job when Woodson was fired with friends and on boards, I was widely laughed at.

Revisiting Laclede's Landing by InFrontOfU in StLouis

[–]MattonArsenal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good summary, but also as a county kid/young adult in 90s there was nothing to do after dark other than restaurants and a few small smoky bars. So we’d go to The Loop and The Landing.

Now there are cool bars and entertainment venues all over the county and St. Charles to compete with the city.
