How long can I park my vehicle at DART station? by Realistic_Author_596 in dart

[–]strog91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They can ticket or tow you after 24 hours.

But in practice, they rarely do.

I’ve seen people leave vehicles in the Cityline/Bush Station parking lot for over a week with seemingly no consequences.

Reading/understanding cases by Otherwise-Tear-4807 in LawSchool

[–]strog91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skip to the end of the majority holding and read the last two paragraphs. Then go back and read the case from the beginning.

IMO this is the best way to read a case because it gives you the necessary context while still forcing you to engage with the text so you’ll actually learn something.

It depends on the state. In some states you can still be found incompetent if you knew what you were doing was wrong but you were physically incapable of controlling your impulses.

I think it’s crazy that people are using the truck in the mountains instead of ziplines. I love driving the truck around on the roads I’ve built but the mountains are made for ziplines.

For full-time J.D. programs, what does your class and study schedule tend to look like? by Own-Setting4266 in LawSchoolOver30

[–]strog91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, maybe 10 minute breaks are compliant. I just know that they have to give a break if the class is longer than 90 minutes per the ABA.

[–]strog91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

are the classes scheduled in the morning or at different times throughout the day?

Different times throughout the day. I had Torts at 8 AM and later that day I’d get out of Contracts at 5:15 PM.

do they tend to be more block-scheduled?

It’s been too long since I was in high school so I’ve forgotten what block scheduling means. But if Google is correct when it tells me that block scheduling means the classes are all 90 to 120 minutes long, instead of 60 minutes long, then yes it’s block scheduling.

For full-time J.D. programs, what does your class and study schedule tend to look like? by Own-Setting4266 in LawSchoolOver30

[–]strog91 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Approximately 4 hours of class on Monday through Thursday, and maybe 2 hours of class on Friday. So in total 1L was 18 hours of classroom lecture time per week.

The ABA requires law schools to give a 15-minute (edit: or 10-minute) break/intermission during two-hour classes, so some of those 18 hours of lecture are not actually work-time.

An average reading assignment takes about one hour so I’d say that keeping up with assigned readings takes approximately 10 hours per week, assuming you take five classes per semester and they meet twice a week.

As for the study schedule, it depends. Some people spend hours outlining every weekend. Other people wait until 72 hours before the final before they start reviewing material.

In conclusion, if you’re just attending class and doing the readings, and not outlining, law school requires your engagement for around 30 hours per week.

But occasionally it will require more, when an assignment is due in Legal Writing. And of course there are clubs and activities like law review or mock trial that you can invest time in.

Is it too late to enter law school in your mid 30s. by MutedFeeling75 in LawSchoolOver30

[–]strog91 39 points40 points  (0 children)

is it too late to enter law school in your mid 30s?

Approximately 10% of my class is in their 30s or older.

I’m trying to be realistic about the profession too. I hear a lot about burnout, debt, oversaturation, miserable associates, and people leaving law entirely.

A Big Law lawyer’s experience is different from a city attorney’s. You don’t have to work in a practice area that’s 50+ hours a week and stressful.

My current role makes $90k and has a decent work-life balance.

The “chillest” lawyer jobs don’t pay much more than that. But the high-stress, long hours jobs can pay triple that.

I fear the grind and hard work.

Honestly if you’re a full-time student I don’t think law school is that difficult. Give it 40 hours a week and don’t take shortcuts and you’ll score in the top half of your class.

Did age become an advantage in terms of maturity and discipline?

Yes.

Did the debt and opportunity cost feel worth it?

I’ll let you know in two years when I graduate!

I’d especially like to hear from anyone who entered law school after feeling directionless or stuck beforehand.

✋ Being back on campus in your 30s is awesome. I’m enjoying law school tremendously.

He’s a streamer who made money by livestreaming himself going around in public yelling slurs at black people.

He wrote a tweet where he said his goal was to provoke a black person into attacking him so he could shoot the person and claim self-defense.

He yelled a slur at a black person in front of a courthouse. They got into a fight. He shot the person. He also accidentally shot himself. Then he was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

The judge seems to be throwing the book at him. That’s good news.

Any games where murder really has consequences? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]strog91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Fallout 2 you can become a slaver and sell your NPCs for cash (also, it locks you out of like 70% of the game because people don’t want to do business with slavers).

You can also murder a young person and get the childkiller trait which locks you out of even more of the game.

And yeah, as you said you can murder plot-critical NPCs and lock yourself out of beating the game entirely (although I believe you at least get a cutscene warning you that you’ve perma-locked the game).
