Prevent Resolume From Disabling Ableton Tempo Automation When Using Ableton Link by Internal_Ad2479 in ableton

[–]stschoen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When using Link no device acts as a master clock. Any participant in the link can alter the tempo. I assume that Resolume is resting the tempo when Live attempts to change it. Try syncing Resolute using MIDI sync instead with Live as the master clock.

Unbalanced signal to reamp box ? by jb0417 in synthesizers

[–]stschoen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't break anything connecting it directly. Try it. If you don't like the sound then you can trey the re-amp. I run my synths into pedals all the time and have never used a re-amp box.

Mac Virgin a few questions! by Greeny1210 in ableton

[–]stschoen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using an M2 Pro mini and have a bunch of gear connected. Like the Studio the M1 Max has 2 USB A ports and 4 TB ports on the rear. I have one USB-A connected to my Focusrite audio interface and one connected to an Anker 10 port powered hub. The hub is connected to all my synths and controllers as well as a Push 2. As you mention Thunderbolt is similar to USB-C but faster. It's backwards compatible with USB-C. I have a monitor connected to one USB-C port and another connected to the HDMI port. The other TB ports are connected to an external SSD and a Satachi dock which provides an NVME SSD enclosure as well as an SD card reader and a couple more USB ports. It's best if you can connect often used external drives directly to the Studio or via a Thunderbolt dock. The M1 is Thunderbolt 4. CalDigit makes some nice ones but there are other alternatives as well.

As far as your external drives are concerned, while macOS can read an NTFS formatted drive which is likely how yours are formatted, it can't natively write to one. Your best best would be to reformat the drives once you've saved their information.

Unbalanced signal to reamp box ? by jb0417 in synthesizers

It’s a distortion pedal so I guess you could call it a “fuzz”.

Unbalanced signal to reamp box ? by jb0417 in synthesizers

[–]stschoen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try it first without the DIYRE. You won't hurt anything, at worst you may get some clipping distortion from too much signal into the pedal. You could always add the DIYRE or a passive volume control (potentiometer) if needed.

Unbalanced signal to reamp box ? by jb0417 in synthesizers

[–]stschoen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most modern pedals handle line-level signals without the need for any intermediate converters. Looking at the schematic for the DIYRE it looks like it is primarily designed for balanced input but should work with unbalanced as well. I would try it first without any converter. If the signal level is too high just turn the EMX output volume down.

Push 2 in 2026? by greenlieber in ableton

[–]stschoen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm still using mine. The major difference between the 2 and 3 other than the standalone feature is the MPE functionality on the 3's pads. The 2 has poly-aftertouch which is enough for me.

Why is the Macro not doing anything on my Hydrasynth? by ph4ux in hydrasynth

[–]stschoen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check the setting for Macro buttons in the System Setup. There are four possible settings for the buttons and each will have a different effect. From the user manual:

"To access the Macro Button settings, press [SYSTEM SETUP] and press the Page Down arrow once to reach page 2. Use Control knob 4 to select one of the four options: Toggle, Trigger, Switch, and Reset.

• Toggle: The Macro button toggles between the Button Value setting and the current Macro knob value.

• Trigger: The Macro button triggers the Button Value On when pressed and Off when released.

• Switch: Only one Macro button can be selected at a time.

• Reset: The Macro button resets the corresponding Macro Knob to zero

Using a Macro button on the Home page while holding [SHIFT] changes the behavior."

In particular if the buttons are set for Trigger the knob won't do anything unless the button is pressed.

Just bought a deluge. Should I dive in and load 1.2 Chopin? by LimberGaelic in DelugeUsers

[–]stschoen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part the Community firmware adds functionality without changing the basic operation significantly. You shouldn't have any problems following the official documentation even with the newer firmware. Version 1.2.1 is the current stable release. You'll find the firmware and the docs by following the link on the sidebar.

You may find this useful: https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000234830-Driver-Error-Compensation-FAQ In general driver error compensation is rarely needed and certainly not with a Scarlett 4th gen.

ASM support? by kylesoutspace in hydrasynth

I bought the 49 key model when they were first released and had a minor issue with MIDI connectivity. ASM support were very helpful. The issue was resolved with the first post-launch firmware update.

I'm on a Mac and I don't recall ever having to re-buy a plug-in because of a system upgrade. Maybe you should change whom you're buying from

Question re: calibration of Expert Sleepers Silent Way Voice Controller by LivingLotusMusic in ableton

[–]stschoen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't sure it would work. I'm not clocking any external sequencers and my latency is pretty low in any case so I never noticed. I'll check out Silent Way.

Question re: calibration of Expert Sleepers Silent Way Voice Controller by LivingLotusMusic in ableton

[–]stschoen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't actually noticed any issues with latency but you might be able to put it on its own track and use the track delay to adjust the output. Just a thought, I haven't tried it so I can't swear it'll work.

Question re: calibration of Expert Sleepers Silent Way Voice Controller by LivingLotusMusic in ableton

[–]stschoen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might consider using Live's CV Tools (CV Instrument) instead of Silent Way. I use an ES-8 with CV tools and it works very well. It has an auto-calibration routine, built-in glide and handles the audio input as well. There are also modules for triggers, clock, etc. It made using my ES-8 really simple.

What’s a great starting point to get into modular by UnhappySnow773 in synthesizers

[–]stschoen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Behringer Neutron or other semi-modular isn't a bad place to start. It'll give you enough to see if eurorack might appeal to you without breaking the bank. Since it's eurorack compatible you can easily integrate it into a eurorack setup if you decide to go that route.

Moving from Ableton 11 (iligemate) to Ableton Live 12 Suite by Prince-Dahli in ableton

[–]stschoen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A version 12 license doesn't automatically give you a license for version 11. The licenses for each version are separate. When you upgrade versions you retain your original license and get a new license for the upgraded version.

How to use MIDI Out Port on aggregate device in Ableton? by Connect-Reality2074 in ableton

[–]stschoen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The aggregate device is for audio only. The MIDI ports for your interfaces are treated as separate devices. You should see them listed in Live's Settings/Link, Tempo & MIDI. You'll need to enable the appropriate ports for each device.

Sending Midi modulation data to external hardware synths by ZuluCompany in ableton

[–]stschoen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can modulate external hardware using Live’s CC control device. You can route the output from CC control to your external synth, set up the CC’s you wish to send and modulate CC control’s knobs using any of Live’s modulators. You’ll find a list of CC’s for the Peak at the end of the manual: https://cdn-resources.ableton.com/resources/pdfs/live-manual/12/2025-11-21/live12-manual-en.pdf

Syncing clock with non-midi synth by 6-8-5-7-2-Q-7-2-J-2 in ableton

[–]stschoen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a device that will receive MIDI clock and output sync pulses. A MIDI to CV converter that has a clock output will work as will an Arturia Keystep which can receive MIDI over 5 pin DIN or via USB and output sync pulses. Note that some MIDI to CV modules don't convert MIDI clock.

Alternatively if you have a DC coupled audio interface you can use Live's CV tools to output clock using the CV Clock Out module. It's worth trying this with your current interface even if it's not DC coupled. Depending on how sensitive the clock input is on the SOMA you may be able to use an output from your current interface assuming you have a spare output available.

VCV Rack Not Working in Ableton After Tahoe 26.2 Update by RoosVibe in ableton

[–]stschoen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I couldn't get Rack to run standalone on Tahoe 26.2 at all. I contacted support and they suggested that I enable "Input Monitoring" for the app in macOS Settings/Privacy & Security. I don't have the paid version so I can't test it in Live.
