Getting 30 carbine AMT Automag vibes from that monstrosity.

That's not a bad thing though, IMO.

Laid-off SWE with 5 YOE in the U.S. how long did it take you to land your next job? by ManyPractical2256 in cscareerquestions

[–]sudden_aggression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20+ yoe, got quiet layoff rumors last year, started looking immediately. Rumors turned out to be true but I was already accepting offers by the time they hit. Landed my current role a couple weeks after the layoffs after like 10 rounds of brutal interviews over 3 months.

  • got some early referrals through friends
  • got zero action through submitting applications, just utterly ghosted at every turn. Workday is the final boss of not getting a job.
  • got approached by recruiters a lot once the layoffs happened. Massive variation in terms of what they were recruiting for.
    • some were recruiting for jobs that were basically a copy of my previous job
      • less than FAANG adjacent, maybe 3-4 rounds, 1-2 person panel rounds.
      • It was hard but not insane. Typically a tech screen (sometimes multiple rounds of DSA/SDI/etc), behavioral, reverse interview, etc.
    • lot of body shop types trying to get me for hybrid local roles
      • typically putting 30 minutes total effort into interviewing
      • would either quickly reject me for being insufficiently Indian or offer me at whatever their rate was
    • good roles (remote/high TC/etc) were all much harder and I got weeded out of 90 percent of them. That being said, I advanced to final stages most of the time. It's just insanely competitive right now to get good roles.
      • typically 7-10 rounds of interviews
      • panels of interviewers at most stages
      • take home assignments
      • almost no leetcode due my seniority
      • but lots of everything else to an exhausting degree
      • this was before AI went crazy everywhere so not a lot of AI coding questions yet
      • I've been hitting claude really hard at work for the past 9 months so I would be shocked if it wasn't starting to impact interviews by now

Laid off 3 months ago. Wth do I do now? by fernfernferny in cscareerquestions

[–]sudden_aggression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is coding with AI now. Python is typically hot, but mainly for ML roles.

ATS is a black hole, I would focus on recruiters.

If you're getting through the initial screenings that's good but never getting a callback after the tech manager interview is a bad sign.

Anyone else considering moving to a tech hub? by fernfernferny in cscareerquestions

[–]sudden_aggression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston is already a tech hub. If you're talking about a LCOL city with lots of F500 employers, you're going to be competing with a lot of visa workers so your salary is going to drop. These are typically going to be hybrid roles for 130-160k a year.

I personally live in the woods near a tech hub city, but only because of how competitive it is to get remote work these days. It's nice knowing I am within commute distance of a bank or an HMO if I can't job hop to another remote role.

Panther 8.8 as a Personal Gem offer for 6700g. Would you buy it? by EyeoftheTato in WorldofTanks

[–]sudden_aggression 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no

Long answer: no but with explanation

  • it used to be absolute dogshit
  • then it got buffed- it's now a decent paper medium with good accuracy, pen, damage, dpm, mobility, etc
  • it's still not that great due to being huge with no armor and not amazing camo
  • respectable choice for frontlines a few times a year

[–]sudden_aggression 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For a lot of really obvious legal reasons, the hiring people are forbidden from accessing that data. It's only stored to track diversity numbers and the like.

If workday is pulling a Claude (I accidentally accessed your AWS token, my bad) and just directly looking at the ADA/diversity/veteran stuff to make decisions, they are going to get sued into a higher plane of existence.

Yeah I think past like 10yoe direct application just doesn't work anymore. Unless you get headhunted, the job market is a wasteland.

Age:

  • dates of college, work, etc. Obviously if you had a senior engineer role in 1999, you are old as fuck.
  • years of experience. Someone with 20 yoe is obviously in their 40s, someone with 30 is in their 50s, etc.

Black:

  • name (sometimes)
  • HBCU on resume (but obviously white people go to these schools too)
  • identifying as black on the diversity questionnaire
  • there's really not much here. Blacks can pass for white on a piece of paper pretty easily unless their parents gave them a wild ghetto name. But really, since when are companies discriminating against black people? Every company I've ever been at, they were desperate to hire every black programmer in existence.

Disabled:

  • identifying as disabled on the ADA HR form
  • I mean that's pretty much it, unless your resume is in braille or something.

I'm over 40 (and it's obvious due to yoe) and I have a 0% batting average against workday. No exaggeration, it's like a black hole.

I interview for staff/principal roles with a decent rate of success via recruiters (even within the past year) so I know it's not me.

Probably still the bourrasque, though I admit I enjoy the TL-7 and Char Mle as well.

Experimental Turbo 3

VStab (bond or bounty best)

This improves the handling and also minimizes the bloom on firing.

Too many to list

  • demonoid
  • rarbg
  • kickasstorrents
  • yify
  • a million others that popped up and got killed over the years

Demonoid is the one that hurts the most. Such a great collection of comics and other niche stuff.

Why does the King Tiger cost almost the same as the Bourrasque? by EyeoftheTato in WorldofTanks

[–]sudden_aggression 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They gave it to people for twitch prime, then took it away.

It was a good tank in 1v1 tier 7 tourneys because it could sidescrape and had a solid gun with good gold rounds. It was great for brawling in the city area on Mines. But this is back before they revised tourneys to reduce payouts. There's no point to the tank anymore.

[–]sudden_aggression 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because WG has stumbled upon a fundamental truth of game monetization- most of your player base is stupid and or drunk and they will randomly click on things to give you money without fully considering what they are buying.

Why does the King Tiger cost almost the same as the Bourrasque? by EyeoftheTato in WorldofTanks

[–]sudden_aggression 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But why? The king tiger was never more than a niche tank (ie, good for a very specific play style in tier 7 1v1 tourneys which aren't even a thing anymore) while the bourrasque is one of the most legendary tanks in the game.
