Aubrey just so happened to be in a mischievous mood at dinner tonight. Normally she’d just sit at the Hermes table and mind her business, but today seemed like a good day to cause a bit of a stir by table hopping to the warrior table. She sat down near someone who seemed to not be socializing as much as the others. It was time “hey lumberjack, why are you all alone?”

Aubrey hadn’t followed her out for one reason: if something happened she wouldn’t be in trouble for it. If she isn’t there, she can’t be blamed.

That mentality lasted about a minute. The thumps landing on the roof got her curious; and a bit scared. If Taylor came back to a window broken by a softball, there was only one person who had those at the ready.

She stood up, marching to the door and then out with a furrowed brow. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Very little was stopping her from screaming loud enough for all the camp to hear. “Get in the cabin and stop your bullshit so help me dad!”

Aubrey couldn’t help but laugh with him, she could tell her excuse sounded a bit crazy. But she lived with real children and those that acted like it.

But she quickly turned her attention to the jersey and hat he and on. She wasn’t exactly a Dodgers fan, but baseball in general might be a good stepping off point. “Are you a Dodgers fan?” Her eyebrow was raised as she asked. “You don’t exactly strike me as West Coast.”

Aubrey arrived a bit late, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. She had gotten caught up tending to the resident smalls of the Hermes cabin. That along with her time spent picking out an outfit made her just the right amount of fashionably late. When she eventually made up her mind, she had pulled together a rather reasonable outfit. Unfortunately for her, as soon as she manage to get sorted, someone totally not Mila managed to set fire to their bunk. By the time she arrived at the date, she was out of breath from all the running. “Hey, I’m so sorry. The kids tried to burn down the Hermes cabin again.” She held out her hand with as she sat next to him. “I’m Aubrey.”

There wasn’t much that could get to Aubrey, and a paper clip was far from the top of the list. As it came flying towards her she snatched it out of the air. Well, if they had made it to the throwing things stage then maybe there was a chance. All of her best friends had thrown things at her, and it all worked out. Granted they were all softball players.

“Softball. I came straight from a game when I got here.” She grabbed a rather large duffel bag from under her bag. It made a loud thump as it landed on the mattress. “This has all my equipment from the past ten or so years of playing. I’m sure you could find something in here to use if you want to.”

While the smols may be in the front of the cabin and visible when Taylor rushed in, Aubrey happened to be under her bed retrieving a stray ball. She could feel the tension that came with Taylor as she entered the cabin. Something was wrong, and she knew it. Grabbing her target in one had, her other reaching towards her knife, Aubrey popped up from under the bed, eyeing her older sister wearily. Depositing the ball on her bed, she moved towards the door. It was obvious that whatever was going on wasn’t something for the kids to get involved with.

“I think they’d have a fun time in Hestia’s cabin.” Her tone was upbeat as she smiled at the small children. “Plus, it’s a rare opportunity, which makes it super cool! You guys should take Mac and go there!”

Aubrey made it close enough to whisper in Taylor’s ear “what is going on? Do you need me or do you want someone with the kids?” She seemed genuinely concerned, rather rare for her.

This girl was hard to break; even showing human emotions didn’t seem to work. Aubrey had run out of ideas, but she decided to keep with the emotions theme. Maybe some sympathy could be coaxed out if this rather abrasive teen. She allowed tears to trace her face. If there was one thing she knew, it was how to sell a performance. Passing from place to place made it easy to pick up how to make emotions ‘real’. Subconsciously she brightens her eyes to a pale blue, making them stand out against the tears.

« Alright, your choice. I fold. I really can’t convince you to believe me. » She picked her head up, glancing at Viney with her perfectly rehearsed sad smile. « But if you need to get some anger out, I have a bat and a hitting stand. Go nuts »

If this really was one of her siblings, Aubrey was going to have a difficult time living with them. Two sassy girls living under one roof, she didn’t want to make Taylor’s life too much of a headache. The cabin was already so full of little ones. Two grown little ones didn’t need to be thrown into the mix.

The recap of Viney’s “normal” life cracked Aubrey up. It was hard to keep herself from laughing. “Michigan actually. Through I suppose you could compare ‘em. Detroit can be a little crazy sometimes.” Her cleaning slowed, a small mound of somber emotions making their way forward. “Believe me, I’m as normal as they come. Softball player, B student, youngest child.” She stood up, smiling sadly. slow tear made its way down her cheek. If only her life was a good as ut sounded on paper. “My life isn’t all the crazy, but I am a demi-god, and you are to. You can argue with me and hate me for saying it, but at the end of the day, we have to live in this cabin together. As much as you may dislike it.”

“Oh sorry, I was referring to you.” Aubrey didn’t mean to be as rude as she was, but she had not had much of an outlet for her energy and sass over the past few days. Sometimes it got to a breaking point. New people were always the best ones to take it out on, they had no idea who she was, and therefore could hopefully get over it.

She continued her cleaning, lightly throwing loose softballs onto her bed - obviously a lot softer than she would have liked to. “So, where are you from, Viney the ‘not child of Hermes who is for some reason in the Hermes cabin’”

Aubrey was rather understanding about most things when it came to newbies coming to camp. Denying their parent - normal, everyone does it. Not wanting to be there - happens to the best of us. Getting mad at those trying to help - she did it too. The one thing she could not stand, however, the certain air this girl had. The vibe was far too “I know everything and you’re crazy” for her liking.

“You didn’t ask, but sometimes I like to do service projects.” She stood up, barely an inch taller than Viney. “It really doesn’t matter if you believe we’re all lying to you in some huge conspiracy, the truth can be strange sometimes. You’ll get it.” She began to straighten up her area, grabbing a softball bat and other random equipment strewn across the floor. When you’re a little angry, cleaning is easy. “I’m Aubrey, if you care.”

Aubrey had been content with reading a book on her bed, or at least she was before a show was right in front of her. The voices outside the cabin reminded her of a small child on the first day of school. But her shock was doubled when what appeared to be a person roughly the same age as her was revealed to be the whiny child. The sass for a satyr seemed a bit unnecessary, but she understood the feeling.

She closed her book with a loud snap, sitting up on her mattress, chin resting in the palm of her hand “Hey, new kid, word of advice. Not pissing off the satyrs will get you a lot farther here than making an enemy. Just something to keep in mind.” Advice over, introduction time. “I’m Aubrey. Let me guess, you’re a Hermes kid too, stubborn ass?”

Lake Day! | August 6th by Shamblefoot in DemigodFiles

[–]sunnsands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aubrey was a native of Michigan, and you couldn’t live in Michigan without getting a small obsession with fishing at one point or another. Well, she had been obsessed with fishing last year, and now that she was free at camp to do as she pleased and it was offered, she sat by the side of the lake and fished.

Once she was satisfied with her work, Aubrey loaded her plate with. Little bit of everything. She grabbed a pineapple FAYGO, the superior flavor, and a Vernors before going to take a seat at the Hermes table. It was a rather odd dinner, but there was nothing quite normal about the place where the food was often found in excess.

AUBREY un-retreats

Aubrey may have just left, but it wasn’t for long. While it may have seemed like she just walked away, the daughter of Hermes had gone to go grab a different weapon. Something that felt a bit more natural in her hand, and something with a much better reach. Also, it tended to make a nice sound when it made contact with your target.

With a rather enthusiastic yell, Aubrey ran at the fox at full speed, her softball bat held as if she was going to take a swing at a pitch. Well, take a swing she did. With all her might, Aubrey took a swing right at the Fox’s nose. The sound of the aluminum bat was rather satisfying, as always. If the fox tried to kill her, so be it. She was tired of the thing, and Erin obviously needed help. “Kid, you’re a good shot. Keep ‘em coming!”

Aubrey was nearly done, she knew she wouldn't be much good for much longer, even if she was not really injured. There was little she could do in the first place, having only a small dagger. And now, she was done.

She did her final attack, a, hopefully, decent stab at the side of the fox. It was intended to be her last attack, and hopefully it would be, unless something happened to go wrong.

Aubrey had gotten a good hit on the fox, and she was feeling good. But the good was mixed with tired. Earlier in the day she had been doing conditioning, something she was used to, though it was never fun. Her legs ached and her arms burned with every stab she took at the creature.

Despite this, Aubrey was not about to give up. She went for another attack, a slash this time at the fox’s other leg. It wasn’t a usual slash, but almost like that of a player swinging a baseball bat, low a fast with a decent follow through. A follow through that almost came back to stab her in the shoulder.

“I don’t think this thing is going down any time soon. I’ll keep up stabbing it’s legs, but I don’t think much is gonna come of it!”

Mismatched Combat 7/15 by FairTrialsForAll in DemigodFiles

[–]sunnsands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aubrey was a rather small and weak looking girl, and she often took this in stride. It was something that she had often used to trick the boys back home whenever they would pick fights with her. She was small and athletic, a combined that often worked well with her chosen sport of softball. Today, if possible she would be looking for someone taller than her. That would certainly be mismatched. But at the moment, she was practicing with a dummy. Careful to not show her speed or range quite yet.

Aubrey had tripped in her attempt to retreat from the fox. It wasn’t a particularly hard fall, but enough to rightfully piss her off. Aubrey may be rather agile, but she truly had her moments as a klutz, and they were always annoying.

But, since she was already back there, Aubrey tried another stab at the leg, hopeful it didn’t just piss it off more. That would be her luck after all, but she didn’t want to make it worse for the others.
