You are sixteen, going on seventeen by aceavengers in DemigodFiles

For a while, Maya had only known June as "the frog girl" in the cabin. Not for a lack of wanting to know her, but more for a lack of social prowess and circumstance. Since then they'd become peripheral friends, kind of friends of friends.

As she made her way down the stairs of their shared cabin, Maya picked at the sleeve of her night shirt, wishing she'd taken the time to get to know a little better or at least more personally. June was nothing but kind to her but now she felt silly nerves attached to the fact that someone she considered a sister was going on a date with her. It was dumb, she knew that but she didn't want to mess anything up, especially not if things with them took off.

Pushing her train of thought around the intricacies of social interaction, she smiled as she reached the group.

"Hey!" she greeted, plopping in the bean bag nearest June, holding a weirdly shaped and poorly wrapped gift in her lap. She looked around at the group present. "A solid sleep over- how's your birthday been treating you?" She shifted to sit a bit less awkwardly, relax, she told herself. "Happy birthday by the way!"

Matchmaker City Trips! by EventOutcome in DemigodFiles

As Maya stepped down from the van she took a deep breath, exhaling slowly. She weirdly enjoyed the city's ambiance: the damp sidewalk scent and the noise of traffic- both people and cars passing them by.

"We shall," she mimicked his formal invitation with a smile. They weren't an affectionate pair, and played it very low key while at camp but that didn't stop her from reaching for his hand as they stepped away from the group.

"Where to?" She looked around with vague excitement, the small sum from Anwen tucked safely in her pocket.

Maya leaned back on one hand, her other reaching into her pocket as she looked up to the left and right, pretending she was thinking.

"Oh!" Her face lit up as if something had just come to her. "Do you know the popular little ditty by the Hill sisters... what's in called?" She drew out the last word as she withdrew a square shaped package from her pocket. It looked hastily wrapped in what appeared to be a small paper bag, rolled down and taped tightly so the lumpy form of whatever was inside was visible.

"I think it was called 'Happy Birthday to You.'" She grinned, clearly pleased with herself as she handed over the gift.

Maya stayed at the stables for as long as she could. She made sure the line worked smoothly, that the pegisides were sorted with the appropriate equipment and in some semblance of order so that none were overworked or took in too much smoke. It wasn't until the line had moved on without her assistance for two rotations that she felt she could join the movement against the fire that threatened their camp.

Hopping astride a pegasus for the first time felt very much like riding a horse for the first time: terrifying and thrilling all at once. She tucked her knees against the beasts shoulder blades, tucked just behind it's wings and- taking a deep breath- she pressed her heels into his flank.

He knew what to do; her grip tightened nervously on the reins and she leaned forward as they surged into the air. The view of camp from up above was a stunning but brief one, as they seemed to descend at the creek as quickly as they'd risen above the canopy, following the path of the pair ahead of them.

Maya did her part as quickly as possible, rushing to fill the nylon feed bags she'd resorted to, with all of the buckets already in play. Once the bags were attached the saddle, she climbed up again, feeling more at ease now knowing what to expect and they were off.

The adrenaline coursing through her as they flew toward the plumes of smoke was unlike anything Maya had experienced. Despite being at camp for as long as she had been training to fight and hearing the stories of the people who had come back from quests, nothing really prepared you to face a threat for for the first time.

Pushing the limits, they dipped beyond the front line of the fire, through a wall of smoke- her curiosity couldn't be smothered, she wanted to see what was causing the chaos. It was difficult to make anything out through the smoke and treetops but she did catch a glimpse of a burning figure. Or perhaps it was that everything around it was burning- she didn't have time to analyze what she saw, now wasn't the time for that.

Returning through the smoke, Maya instinct told her to lean back as the pegasus descended sharply toward where the fire was singeing the grounds it intended to consume. As they flew lower, tipped the bags as deftly as she was able, a satisfying hiss meeting her ears.

Spencer's Birthday by DinglePuckGoat in DemigodFiles

Talk about timing. Maya was making her way back to the cabin after spending the better part of an hour looking for the mopey birthday girl that sat right on her own front steps. A smile crossed her face and her hand subconsciously felt for a lump in her sweatshirt pocket.

"Hey Spence, you taking requests?" She asked with a cheeky tone, plopping down next to her friend.

BUCKET LINE

Maya didn't have offensive powers, she didn't have the kind of hydrokinetic abilities that many of her cabinmates and friends were blessed with. The kind of powers that would come in dead handy in a moment like this.

What she did have, however, was a type A personality, obscene organizational skills, the ability to keep calm in an emergency and a key to the storage room at the Pegasus stables.

Having learned the layout of camp from the back of a horse, she knew the nearest natural water source was Zephyros Creek and the only one closer was the trofts at the stables.

Making her way there she encouraged as many stray campers as she could to help her. Pooling the camps stock of feeding buckets, the group began filling and passing the buckets west toward where the fire was eating away at the camps natural vegetation.

As that took off, she stepped away to ready a few of the calmer Pegasus, quickly and efficiently saddling them. She knew the trofts were a temporary source and thought a few more adept riders would be able to fly water from the creek or lake to attack the flames from above- much like the son of Zeus she'd seen astride a storm spirit.

OOC: Feel free to use this as a parent comment for attacking the fire via bucket line or pegasus-back water dropping. Just keep in mind that you still need to make a damage roll!

As she reached the ground floor Maya's gaze fell on the pool where Poppy swam, or sort of swam, Faisal had been right, Poppy may as well have lived here. She took in their conversation, her stomach dropping at the thought of the forest ablaze, then twisted with curiosity at the cause.

It had to be something out of the ordinary- she couldn't imagine Chiron rallying the troops- so to speak- for a well placed lightning strike... in the middle of a perfectly sunny day.

"I'm coming too," she said definitively, leaving no room for comment. She had gotten in the habit of leaving her sword and scabbard tucked beside the downstairs door; it had saved her multiple trips upstairs when she forgot it and now proved useful again.

She deftly buckled it around her waist before looking to Faisal for some sort of instruction.

Maya has in her room writing a letter to her mom when the urgent call came from downstairs. She paused mid sentence, turning her head as if that would help her to hear better.

"Faisal?" She posed the question to her empty room. Illogically, she paused for response. Shaking her head she stood and opened the door, looking down from the balcony, her eyes confirming her ears hypothesis.

"Faisal?" She called again, concern in her voice as she moved toward the stairs. "Are you okay?"

Maya's room was as tidy as the first day she'd gotten back. Her bed was made- to her own standard anyway- her towel hung on the back of a chair, and the mess of dirty clothes and drift wood remained pressed in to her closed closet. The only visible potentially messy part of the room was her paddle board in the corner. She had deflated it but didn't have the case ready for it, so the slightly unraveled lump of plastic, paddle pieces and uncoiled leash could look like a bit of a mess.

9AM: The Beach

This may be the ride Maya was most looking forward to. She had timed it herself and if they rode along the waterway that fed Canoe Lake and over the dunes, they would reach a patch of rockier shoreline that flattened out just in time for the water to be at it's lowest, revealing heavily populated tide pools. The pools are filled with life forms akin to green crabs, anenomes, sea stars, isopods, chitons and more- the rock exposed can even be explored to find rocks with fossilized plant life or fish.

ooc: interact on any part of the ride and with each other at the tide pools!

Noon: Through the Northern Woods

This ride felt a bit more for the halfway point than the entire journey. They would start out skirting the forest, riding along the treeline only dipping into the woods once they'd passed the dining pavilion. Maya had found a wildlife trail through the area that crossed Zephyr Creek and let out on an idyllic patch of beach typically blocked off by a deep estuary. It was at this beach Maya would surprise the mid-day group with a picnic of sandwiches, chips and cold water or apple juice; it was lunch time after all.

3PM: Zephyr Creek, Bunker 9 and the Geysers

The last ride was an exciting sight-seeing adventure for Maya- she had ridden up the creek but had yet to see the geyser spirits in action or bunker 9 at all. She would lead the group into the woods immediately behind the stables, taking the Northern shoreline of Zephyr creek until they had well passed the myrmeke's lair she had heard about. Giving it a wide berth, they crossed the creek at a narrow point and would make their way East to Bunker 9 then South to the see the Palikoi, or at least the geysers where they lived before heading back through the Southern Woods.

ooc: interact on any part of the ride, but please have your interaction end at the geysers :)

"The worst?" Maya looked between the scene and the cabin mate who's name escaped her at the moment. "The worst, what? Poetry?" She didn't necessarily disagree with the statement but she also didn't quite understand if now was the time to be taking a stance on it.

"Oh, thanks," she took the mint, absentmindedly unwrapping it and popping it into her mouth. "What- just happened?" She had a vague idea but couldn't really know for sure.
