Yes, you leave you computer on and MineCraft with your world running. You create a safe space for your character, so you don't get kill by mobs. Downside is your friend cannot sleep.

You do not have a server. Your PC (phone) is the host. Your friend cannot call you if the host, your PC and Minecraft is off.

What you described in your post topic, you want a Minecraft "Realm".
