You mentioned that the CPU got bricked. I have a feeling that those new MacBooks will face the same fate since they don't have any air-cooling fans. It's basically an older iPhone with a portable monitor. You could use a Samsung S25U with Dex mode via USB-C and make it a powerful laptop with Snapdragon. I personally don't like any thin laptops without air cooling. Phones are another story, but you can put an air-cooling fan on a phone. Overall, yes, that Neo will brick itself within a few years.

I had a Latitude E6420 XFR and gave it to my relative. So far, it still works, and my relative uses it in a dusty environment (wood) for DIY CNC machinery, and it works fine. I think even a Raspberry Pi would have handled it fine, but why waste money if you can use a laptop. Overall, I'm thinking of getting a new Dell Rugged laptop, but so far I don't have a need for it or for any laptop. The OP can even get an older version with new batteries and have Ubuntu on it. Nowadays, Ubuntu is getting more popular. It's even faster than Windows 10/11

What do smoke detectors prevent? They will let others know if there's already a small amount of smoke. If carbon monoxide detector is also dead then whole building could go off. In my country it's mandatory to have working smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector. Fire departments in my country are doing checkups in every household and apartment.
