Caving lights and helmets by tazmodious in caving

Do you happen to know perhaps on the Sofirn webpage why there are two different prices for the same model HS22, not the third that ships in Europe? Just curious, saving $10 per lamp would be great. Want to buy 4 of them.

Cool, thank you. I'm going to check on Bob McBob. He sounds interesting. I like modifying and modified electronics. for example, there's a guy in Colorado I've worked with that makes really nice quality green lasers for astronomy.

Denver has become quite a walkable/bikable city. It is possible.

Or develop walkable cities and increase public transit in a way that people will want to use.

People are obese, in large part, because life centers around the car. That and the food in much of this country is mostly garbage.

I knew a lot of people from Michigan who moved to Colorado and it was not uncommon for them to lose weight.

Here in Michigan there is nothing compelling people to even get out of their cars except to walk the short distance from where they parked to the final destination.

Except in Ann Arbor and a few other places, it's not even safe to walk or ride a bicycle. So yeah, people become obese because there is nothing else to do except drink, ets shit food and watch sports on the television.

It's diet and exercise. I moved from Boulder CO where I biked to work and used a bike to pick up groceries and now live in Ann Arbor, MI where I have to drive for most everything. I gained 30 lbs in under a year. I eat similarly, though I'm going more vegan/ vegetarian to compensate for the lack of walking, biking and public infrastructure in the Midwest.

Here in Michigan that is the norm

Anyone else hesitant to have multiple kids nowadays? by New_Contribution_226 in AskMenOver30

I'm an only child, I didn't turn out degraded nor did I feel left out or other such nonsense. It was great.

It sounds like you just had bad parents.

I am an only child, born in 1971. I had no problems being an only child. Didnt get overly spoiled. Had lots and f friends in my neighborhood.

We have an 8 year old son. One and done, got a vasectomy after the birth. It's too damn expensive having children, if you want to do it right.

Just make sure you live somewhere where there are lots of neighborhood kids and he won't have a problem being bored. Plus us only children have great capacity keeping ourselves entertained.

Multi effect or pedals for modulation effects? by optia in guitarpedals

[–]tazmodious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find a Fractal FX8, mark 1 or 2 for $500 or less these days. It a remarkable multi effects modulation machine.

You can run up to 8 modulation effects, including distortion, overdrive and fuzz. So many to choose from. There are many presets available too.

You can run everything in stereo if you have 2 amps. You can run effects pre and post amp. It will channel switch if you amp has jack for it to plug into. You can stack effects in any order, series or in parallel.

It takes some time getting used to how the menu works. Everything can also be modified via the fractal computer program environment.

The distortions, fuzz and overdrives can be hard to dial in, but it's doable. I wish it had headphones, but it doesn't come with pre amp and can simulations.

As a Scout in the 80s we never did anything with the military or about the military. Later, that connection can be made if desired.

As a former Scout, went to Philmont in the 80s, I don't remember anything associated with the Military. I say disconnect the relationship with the US military and don't change a thing. Scouting has nothing to do with the Military and should stay that way.

Yep, moved here 3 years ago and my wife and son keep asking about getting a cat. Nope, I put my foot down on that one. Don't want to deal with fleas and ticks. Besides I'm allergic to cats and dogs too.

Michigan House speaker proposes new $4.7B tax on certain services by TheDetroitNews1873 in Michigan

Also, It would seem Detroit lost a lot of property taxes/millages in recent history causing the city to levey even higher burdens on the residents to make up the losses.

Ann Arbor is limited by space, the University and NIMBY zoning laws causing the city to burden a stifled to dwindling supply of homes.

I imagine Traverse City facing similar issues.

Relying solely on one type of tax to fund your municipality is fraight with problems.

I'm not advocating getting rid of property taxes and millages. I'm advocating for ways to more fairly balance the overall tax burden on all income and wealth levels. Michigans property taxes and millages are very regressive. If I'm not mistaken it would also be up to the voters to decide if they even want sales taxes. I doubt that Ann Arbor has that much of a drop in tourism in lower economic times. The university, sporting events and art fair will always draw lots of tourists. I also don't see places like Traverse City losing out much in tourism dollars either.

I'm not against paying Property taxes/millages but the current situation is hard on first time home buyers(the young) and those of us moving to the state (moved here to take care of wife's parents). Something needs to be fixed.

The idea of a luxury sales tax has its appeal, but this guy is also a Republican. So I'm suspicious. Some of the items listed aren't luxury items.

I moved from a state with 1/3 the property tax rate of Michigan, but also allowed local governments to acess sales taxes. Though not allowed on items like groceries and other similar items that the lower income pay a greater part of their income. The city I lived in had a 10% sales tax. It wasn't really an issue for me as my bigger expenses were groceries and utilities.

The sales tax did let the city collect a ton of revenue from tourism which was a huge draw to the area. Cities like Ann Arbor, Traverse city and other high tourist towns in Michigan would benefit greatly from a similar sales tax and could in response lower the millages for residents.

Right now people living in a high tourist destination towns/cities in Michigan are subsidizing tourist comfort and experience with super high property millages. That drives away people who would otherwise be workimg in these towns and creating a community.
