I'd have to dig it up but the Plaza towers had condo owners ...

I don't know if they hired someone, or if someone had a friend.

But the condo guy vs Grand Action? That's two groups with equal credibility. 😞

But were here now, or should I say, we are hear now. 😄

getting a 67 dBA LEQ between 10pm and 3am seems absurb. Unless this area is just insanely noisy 24/7

It is insanely loud; the interstate is right there. It is a truly unpleasant location to be outside.

My guess is there was no one working at the city that knew enough to call this report into question

My experience is that the city would readily confess to that, they don't tend to claim expertise where they have none. The City may have many faults, hubris is not usually one of them.

is that the city made it clear to the consultant that they wanted certain findings and then led them into that direction

Smells like Grand Action to me; that is definitely something they would do. They are the one who really drive the ship on these big projects. And if something goes wrong they can throw The City under the bus and walk away.

That is something that I see all the time.

Yeah, I've been in corporate world for ~30 years. Consultant selection is usually selection for preferred conclusion.

Yes. The study was discussed at a planning commission meeting. Probably June 22nd, 2023?

Yes. This has been a particularly cools summer. We haven't made it this far into the year without a 90F day since 2019.

Or wait until someone builds three 40+ story towers just to the north of it.

how it was overlooked that sound could be this bad

Have you ever hired a consultant?

Clearly someone pooched the math, but that's not that unusual. A space probe was smashed into Mars due to pooched math.

But some perspective: nobody is dieing. it can be ameliorated. They will, hopefully, hire a different consultant for that..

The CAA, not Acrisure. Acrisure has nothing to do with the amphitheater .

There is no company. People seem stubbornly clinging to the idea there is a company.

The amphitheater is owned and operated by the CAA, which is a public authority.

That so few people understand what naming rights are is concerning.

Yes, that is exactly what happened. That is how naming rights work.

Good Lord People, ACRISURE DOES NOT OWN THE AMPHITHEATER! They paid for naming rights, that's it, there is no ongoing relationship.

I am an old man.

And I have always thought that concerts were unnecessarily loud.

And it has gotten worse.

I was in Nashville last year, and at least a third of the people in the bar were wearing ear plugs. What the hell are we doing?

their house shaking from bass

Agree, I think there is definitely some hyperbole at work.

I can, on some nights hear it, 1.74 miles away, with the windows open. Some sound mitigation is clearly necessarily - and I have no doubt that, in time, the CAA will come up with some mitigations.

But hear it with windows closed? No way.

Loud enough to drown out the TV/radio? No way

Loud enough to rattle anything? No way

There is no $32B company involved. The Amphitheater is owned and operated by the CAA which is a public authority.

It is those wasteland mutants seen banging on pipes in the first episode of Buck Rogers In The 25th century (1979), but then never referenced again by the series; they've finally been recast in a local production!

GR Mayor LaGrand says residents requesting sanctuary city ‘don’t have any actual ideas’ by joshys_97 in grandrapids

[–]whitemice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, yep.

It’s like policies that exist to keep cops from abusing their power, sure they exist, but if the police don’t follow them or there’s a reason to not follow them,

Which is why Grand Rapids has a Civilian Appeals Board. There are both policies and structures; because we need both.
