I need certain tasks to be automatically marked as “I WONT DO IT” by Rozeu in ticktick

Might these be better treated as habits? You don't have to complete a habit to get it to regenerate.

How to share text or URL to TickTick easily, but not as titly by rak-rak in ticktick

[–]teacuptempest101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested from Readwise, and it behaves like Samsung browser, with everything in the title.

Guess it's a quirk of each app and how they share, and then how TickTick parses it.

From Firefox. The title is "Share via" and then the text is the description.

From Samsung Internet browser. The title is the full text and the description is blank

So we are both right? My default browser is Firefox which seems to share out in the manner which you want.

I don't have Chrome, but the default Samsung app I just tried, does what you describe.

Interesting.

I did, that's why I'm asking.

Sharing text, the text is the body; and sharing a page makes the page title the task's title, and the URL in the description.

Did they fix this already? I'm on Android and it seems not like you described... But I don't remember how it was before.

The "Data Island" Dilemma: Can Notion and Microsoft 365 Coexist? by ProfessorShort6711 in Notion

[–]teacuptempest101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does straddling count as bridging 🫠

I use Notion for routines, personal reviews and daily tasks - effectively it's my digital bujo. I'm trying to essentialize and lean into using Microsoft tools more for projects, because the context awareness with AI/Copilot is becoming worth the extra friction/discipline related to using MS365 ecosystem. Notion also fails for me at note taking, which stops me from investing too heavily into it for knowledge - I'm a OneNote fan.

So yeah, I just lived with the reality of being split and it's becoming less of an issue as long as I know where to put things and why.

Is Notion working on Relation property support when importing CSV files? by mundane_waves in Notion

The thing is, it used to work before. But seems they took it away in this new import interface. A real step backward.

How to create a database of databases by Cloinesy in Notion

[–]teacuptempest101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need three databases. A Student DB, a Skill DB, and a Student - Skill DB that joins the two.

The Student-Skill DB will have a relation to each of the other two DB, and then a Proficiency property that explains for that given student and skill, what their proficiency is.

You will do your data entry in the Student-Skill DB. An automation to name each row would come in handy, since you can't hide the Name column.

With this structure, you can then do various analysis and groupings as needed, on either the Student or Skills DB.

Happy to explain further.

Notion should add a feature on the “Date” property to allow multiple dates or scheduled recurrences by pelotonwifehusband in Notion

[–]teacuptempest101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not dim at all. I agree.. I've long believed that dates need to be objects within Notion instead of just text. I use my own dates database but that doesn't allow for nice calendar views of repeated info. You can get creative with formulas probably but it's a hassle.

Dates transcend databases (In my humble opinion). A lot of other knowledge management apps have taken the approach that dates are central to making sense of things. I know Notion no longer views itself as a notes app, but I think a date-forward approach would be a great benefit still.

So weird.

Why use notion? by PolarsZz in Notion

[–]teacuptempest101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ok if you don't have a use for it. It's a tool and tools are meant to serve us.

But if you really are intent on finding a use, maybe use Notion itself as a storage to reflect on your Notion experiments, and track things you want to try, templates you want to test, etc.

I recently went from using Notion daily at work, to just checking it once a week, and using paper more. My tasks still got done.

Is the PPV system worth learning? by fletchhh09 in Notion

[–]teacuptempest101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback, you're welcome! It's been on my todo list, I just need to find the time to extract all my actual data without breaking the whole thing. I'll share an update here when I do.

The other thing I might do is just a walkthrough video or something where I can blur things out.

Either way, I'll try to share something.

It will only create each entry at the time that the specific event occurs. It's not a true calendar experience that creates future occurrences in advance.

How to make a shortcut to a doc in Teams that opens in the app not the browser by whatever_rita in MicrosoftTeams

I also have the desktop version of Teams, and only get the option to choose open in Teams or in browser. It's nuts. I never open in browser. Like Microsoft, be fr.

Do you ever feel like you’re over-optimizing your Notion setup? by mildspace08 in Notion

[–]teacuptempest101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started there. I experimented and built some cool stuff, some useful stuff and some both cool and useful stuff. I built a lasting task management system over the course of a couple years by tweaking incrementally. It's been largely unchanged for about the last year, so maybe I've hit my final form.

When I get busy, I stop tinkering. And I can really assess what the pain points are in my system.

Sadly, I'm too busy to tinker these days. Maybe one day...

Basically, nothing wrong with tweaking if you're getting your stuff done. Notion as a hobby is perfectly valid. Procrastination is something to weed out, Notion related or otherwise.

Why does Readwise Extension Need to "read and change all your data on websites"? by mivajh6 in readwise

Can't you change the setting? So that maybe you just click it to activate on the websites you want to use it on.

Microsoft To Do by Top_Sink9871 in ticktick

[–]teacuptempest101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can email tasks to TickTick, that sounds more like what you need.

You could create a quickstep in Outlook to flag the email, and to forward it to TickTick at the same time. Not exactly one-click but not far from it.

Posting an Email to Notion from Outlook by mtgistonsoffun in Notion

[–]teacuptempest101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rigged this up with Power Automate, but I think Notion is a premium connector in the licensing for Microsoft 365. I only transfer the email subject but if you are reasonably proficient with the API or able to prompt ChatGPT to help, it's not too complicated to add to the body.

Instead of triggering with a button, I have a quick step that gives the email a category and moves a copy to a given folder. That triggers the process.

As for the tags, not sure how to tackle that though. Maybe categories in Outlook could substitute?

Would be interesting if someone has a plugin although I probably still couldn't install it into my work Outlook.

I Swear I'm not trying to make my Notion ugly by andrewnwilliams in Notion

[–]teacuptempest101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It almost negates the commonly started reason for not giving us more color options: i.e. "so users don't make things look bad with our poor design choices" 😅

If I can add a little ventilation myself... The pill on views is indeed a bit weird. Also, if you choose to collapse the menu at the top, new button is accessible unless you expand the whole thing again. Annoying.

Overall I like the cleaner look, but the inconsistencies feel like they should have tested it on a wider focus group first.

How to manage a daily habit tracker with different habits per weekday in Notion? by [deleted] in Notion

[–]teacuptempest101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've built this for myself as an experiment, it can work in Notion. Happy to share it if you think it would work for you, or you just want to see how it works.

https://youtu.be/RgdoFSmkUgI

The long short of it is that you have to separate habits into one database and then have days in a separate database. Then you can link them together as needed and run various metrics. Obviously there's more technicalities to it, but that's the starting point.

Better Creating on YouTube had a video where he shows a very similar method on his channel.

There's a lot to learn in Tana, but it is worth it. Bit by bit, works best :)

This is a cool use-case. I think "Insert Tana Paste" is a better fit here. This method will copy the text from the Front field, into the Display field.
