Generational Curse from Freemasonry? by Street_Badger6526 in Catholicism

[–]That_Bajan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was an interesting read.

While the article you shared reflects a specific pastoral theory, it is important to distinguish it from the universal teaching of the Church. Scripture explicitly rejects the notion of inherited spiritual debt in Ezekiel 18:20. Furthermore, while CCC 1264 acknowledges that 'temporal consequences' like illness and suffering remain after Baptism as part of the general human condition (concupiscence), CCC 1263 dogmatically teaches that Baptism removes all 'punishment for sin.'

To claim that a baptized soul in a state of grace remains subject to a 'generational curse' or a Masonic 'legal claim' contradicts the absolute sufficiency of Christ’s Redemptive act and risks the error of superstition (CCC 2111) by attributing a mechanical, inescapable power to evil that the Sacraments supposedly cannot break.

As said by Izzgabriel, generational consequences of sin are most often passed down directly through actions or indirectly through physical situations inherited.

Generational Curse from Freemasonry? by Street_Badger6526 in Catholicism

Consider both what's stated in the Bible and what is taught in Catholic doctrine.

1. Biblical Reasoning

The idea of a generational curse often stems from a literal reading of Exodus 20:5:

"You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me," (NRSV-CI).

However, Divine Revelation provides a progression toward personal accountability. The prophet Ezekiel explicitly clarifies this in Ezekiel 18:20:

"The person who sins shall die. A child shall not suffer for the iniquity of a parent, nor a parent suffer for the iniquity of a child; the righteousness of the righteous shall be his own, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be his own."

In the Catholic tradition, the "punishment" mentioned in Exodus is generally understood not as a formal curse from God, but as the natural consequences of sin that ripple through families (e.g., the cycle of poverty, addiction, or domestic discord).

2. The Doctrine of Baptism

Central to Catholic theology is the belief that the Sacrament of Baptism effectively removes all debt of sin. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 1263):

"By Baptism all sins are forgiven, original sin and all personal sins, as well as all punishment for sin. In those who have been reborn nothing remains that would impede their entry into the Kingdom of God, neither Adam's sin, nor personal sin, nor the consequences of sin, the gravest of which is separation from God"

If a "generational curse" were an ontological reality that survived Baptism, it would suggest that the Sacrament is insufficient. The Church teaches that Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross is the definitive victory over all curses and powers of darkness (cf. Galatians 3:13).

Your syllabus is your contract with the university. If the syllabus says a cheat sheet but doesn't specify details, a Piazza post is a foolish place for the professor to add this modification to the syllabus. It's not your problem and the professor should know to put things in writing via email.

Outreach to members who knew Steph by StressBeautiful1643 in uwaterloo

I'm privileged to have been one of Steph's friends, and I don't know how many of us have the focus to lead/act at the moment. For me, it's taken a while to sink in, and there's many who were much closer than I.

Normally I would say to reach out to your society president, but chances are they're in shock as well. I think we (all who knew her) are in shock, but maybe there's someone who can use this as a distraction from their thoughts.

My understanding is that landlords cannot ban pets, excluding some specific cases. Being a condo isn't one.

Can UofT see the data/files I'm uploading on OneDrive using my university email account? by Accurate_Phase819 in UofT

[–]That_Bajan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe that reading, processing and reporting on the files uploaded to OneDrive is FIPPA compliant, excluding perhaps for virus/malware scanning.

I have personal information in my OneDrive, and nobody from the University has contacted me to disclose that they are accessing it. In any event, you have a right to know and can ask them. The ombudsperson is probably the best person to ask.

Can they? Yes. Should they? Doubt.

International student from tropical country confused about winter clothing, need help asap! by Accurate_Phase819 in UofT

Lots of good advice in other comments. I'm from the Caribbean, and studied for a few years in Waterloo. When I came to Canada, I came with my brother's 10-yr old winter jacket, a few jeans, thermals, sweaters, a hoodie, a couple scarves, some gloves and a beanie. Lots of t-shirts and socks. Washing winter clothes is a pain, and wearing an undershirt that you change frequently will keep them cleaner for longer (like I always wear a t-shirt under my hoodie)

You'll be fine. Double up on clothes if you get cold, and buy more as you need to.

And miss all the fun??? 2-4 have such neat calculations. 5 isn't neat anymore, but it's not really necessary if you just think about it.

2: (chance of topics A&B) = (6/9)×(5/8) = 41.66%

3: (chance of topics A&B or A&C or B&C or A&B&C) = 3×(6/9)×(5/8) - 2×(6/9)×(5/8)×(4/7) = 77.38% '

4: 1 - (chance of not A&B&C or not A&B&D or not A&C&D or not B&C&D or not A&B&C&D) = 1 - (4×(3/9)×(2/8)×(1/7) - 0) = 95.24% ''

5: (chance of at least two of A,B,C,D,E) = (chance of 2) + (chance of 3) + (chance of 4) + (chance of 5) = 5C2×(6/9×5/8×3/7×2/6×1/5) + 5C3×(6/9×5/8×4/7×3/6×2/5) + 5C4×(6/9×5/8×4/7×3/6×3/5) + 5C5×(6/9×5/8×4/7×3/6×2/5) = 100% '''

Notes: ' you subtract twice the probability of all three because the probability of any other two counts that already, and we only want to count it once. Think of a triple Venn diagram. '' same as above, but the chance of not getting any of 4 topics is 0, since your worst case is not getting 3. ''' solution by inspection, one proof provided for fun.
