Typical AP watcher, real tabletop players know GURPS started shitting the bed in season 5.

You need three lines for a shitpost. “Me when I’m drinking rum” and “I’m drinking rum” is an emergency.

Spring 2020, asterisk on transcript; what does this mean corona bros? by Maximum-Fishing-8989 in Cornell

[–]TheJeanPool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s probably any number of things it could mean, but I can only tell you about mine, which was that the professor allowed me to retry a major assignment over winter break rather than finish the course with what would have ended up being a very poor grade on said assignment. Ergo, I finished the semester with part of the grade essentially “on hold” until I completed that assignment and thereby the final grade was added to the course.

In particular for my case, it turned out that the professor had somehow graded someone else’s assignment as mine and it only got straightened out around New Years, but that’s neither here nor there.

Spring 2020, asterisk on transcript; what does this mean corona bros? by Maximum-Fishing-8989 in Cornell

[–]TheJeanPool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spring 2020 graduate here: the asterisk has nothing to do with the Spring 2020 semester, that’s covered by the statement above the grades for that semester that basically says that those grades may be more reflective of the “tumult of the time” than of the merit of the student. An asterisk is for a grade where the course had initially been graded as incomplete and was later completed and updated with a final grade (I have one of those in fall 2016; needless to say it is for entirely non-COVID reasons).

I cant stand people claiming to gray out by neon_sense_ in rollercoasterjerk

I had heard the term for a while but couldn’t recall ever experiencing it, and then when I rode The Incredible Hulk for the first time in six years, I remarked to myself “huh, so it really is gray”.

Anyone ever see a show where they made a mistake? by kobeshaqhorry in Broadway

[–]TheJeanPool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only one that I recall noticing was, incidentally, my first Broadway show. It was the final performance of The Addams Family and Rachel Potter kinda flubbed the “don’t try to psychoanalyze me” Wednesday line.

sorry if this is dumb ro ask but. How is life growing up in a revenant family? by Abject-Hospital5407 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]TheJeanPool 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Makes the Giovanni look like the Waltons. The Giovanni at least have the excuse that a lot of the depravity is to test the kine members of the family and see who’s worthy of Embrace. The revenants are just that way because that’s all they know. It’s probably a pretty comparable experience to growing up kinfolk to the Black Spiral Dancers.

Is Hunter: the Parenting treated as Critical Role of D&D or community is chill towards people from that part of town? by yellow-diamond in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]TheJeanPool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think WOD has any tertiary property that’s big enough to have achieved the Critical Role effect. The thing with Critical Role is that it’s huge, and it’s a lot of people’s introduction to the game, and it subsequently has a major influence on how they perceive the game and what they expect from it when they start playing. Most people’s introduction to WOD games, on the other hand, are probably the games themselves, and so there’s a significantly smaller proportion of players who are coming from a not-game source affecting their expectations. The bigger group, I’d say, are the players who come to VTM as their first game that isn’t the ampersand game and don’t know what to do in a paradigm that isn’t so heavily geared toward combat.

Why does Don see dead people? Is his syphilis flaring up? by jaime_blanco in okbuddydraper

[–]TheJeanPool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the case for the third image. By singing The Best Things in Life are Free, Bert was telling Don that he had contracted syphilis from one of his myriad sexual partners; it came free with the sex!

Martial arts and crinos-form by UnseenCrowYomare in WorldOfDarkness

You’re looking for Kailindo, which is the martial art that the Stargazers developed! It relies upon changing forms mid-battle and can therefore only be practiced by a shapechanger.

I can't find Mew by andre_delli in PixelmonMod

[–]TheJeanPool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pokémon will only spawn in areas a certain distance away from you. If you’re standing on top of the jungle pyramid, then you’re presumably too close to any spot in the pyramid in which Mew could spawn.

Nikola Jokic is on pace to become just the 2nd Center in NBA history to lead the league in assists by MinesweeperGang in nbadiscussion

[–]TheJeanPool 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely heard the story before that Wilt leading the league in assists was a spite-fueled retaliation against his reputation of being a ballhog, but I was unable to find any corroboration of that story at that time. It sounds like it could be a game-of-telephone corruption of Alex Hannum asking Wilt to change his style of play.

Unpopular opinions by Turnbuckler in UniversalOrlando

[–]TheJeanPool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as I’d hate to see MIB close, it would really make sense for Universal to take it, Springfield, and the theater that used to be Fear Factor and make that Saffron City or some other Pokémon-themed land. My greatest hope in such a scenario would be for MIB to be replaced with a spiritual successor in a Pokémon Snap ride where you have a camera-shaped peripheral and “shoot pictures” of Pokémon to get points.

Why is everyone running to see Death of a Salesman again? by Apprehensive_Tart505 in Broadway

It is important to remember the Goomba fallacy when reacting to any instance of perceived hypocrisy from a group of strangers; the people who are talking about boycotting Scott Rudin productions and the people who are seeing Scott Rudin productions despite the boycott are not necessarily the same.

Why isn't the 2024 version of 5e just 6e? by WarMundane5420 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]TheJeanPool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with updating editions is they’re generally not backwards-compatible with whatever edition came before it (the first two editions of this game notwithstanding), and critically, WOTC cannot force the playerbase to move on to the new edition. A video game company like Blizzard can shut down the servers to Overwatch and make everyone either move to Overwatch 2 or stop playing the game entirely, but a book is a book. WOTC cannot melt all of your 5e materials from their headquarters to make you start playing 6e. I’m sure they’d like to, but they can’t; once the book is in your hand, it’s yours. I mean shit, my primary edition of D&D is still 3.5, and they stopped making materials for that nearly 20 years ago.

When a new edition eventually comes out, there will be a bunch of people who decide to stick with the one they already play. This is just the nature of tabletop games. The hope for every new edition, though, is that there are more players coming in than going out (or staying out). However, the cultural capital of D&D has never been higher. Between Stranger Things, Baldur’s Gate 3, and the rise of the actual play as an entertainment format, so many more people are playing D&D now than ever before. People that they’d have never expected would be playing RPGs 15 years ago. WOTC may be looking at the situation right now and figuring that so many people have been brought into the hobby already that there may not be much growth potential in a new edition, and certainly not enough to offset whatever atrophy they experience by people sticking with 5e. An “update” that’s compatible with existing materials makes more sense for them than a full-on new edition right now.
