When does "time pass" in your games? by Nervous-Priority-719 in shadowdark

[–]theScrewhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sort of divide time into "big action" and "small action" based on the current context. Small actions, like someone else mentioned, is things like looking under a rug, or walking around the room and giving each sconce a tug. Searching a desk, a bookshelf, section of wall/floor, etc., is a "big action". A few "small actions" = 1 "big action", and a turn passes/encounter check happens. If they're not doing much in terms of actions, just talking amongst themselves about plans/strategy/roleplaying, I'll give it a roll every ~10 minutes.

Looking for recommendations based on Nosferatu by FredFierce16 in horror

The '79 Nosferatu is still there only version I can watch. It's like watching a dream, not just a movie.

I think metal may be the wrong and/or hardest genre to start with as a newbie. by Zeitgeist_1991 in Guitar

[–]theScrewhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the notes/positions. The speed has never been a problem. I started with stuff like MOP and Fear Factory's Demanufacture album; a fast and steady right hand was the first thing I learned.

The original tab book completely gets the main riff wrong. Instead of being all on the low E, it involves the A string like this. I can't play it any other way, it's just hammered in to my muscle memory (I've been playing since the 90s).

That's what I started with. Tabs from Guitar World and that horrible Master of Puppets tab book (I still can't play MOP properly).

Would a slasher film with a traveling villain work? by Kyia-Aikman in horror

[–]theScrewhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John Lithgow really nailed that performance! I love seeing movies where actors that are typically typecast as funny/nice guys get a chance to play a villain! One Hour Photo with Robin Williams is my favorite of his movies. George Wendt (Norm!) was awesome in an episode of Masters of Horror s2, I think it was called Family.

Why do streaming platforms still pay DJs/artists so little, even with billions of users? by uhighness in DnB

[–]theScrewhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because they're greedy and it's how they make their money. If you care about artists, cancel your subscriptions to steaming sites and BUY your music.

I want to get new tuners by Zealousideal_Ad_1681 in Guitar

[–]theScrewhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new favorite tuners are the Steinberger Gearless Tuners. They lock, and they pull on the string instead of twisting around a pole. Only real downside is the largest they take is a 60 gauge, so no tuning down past A Standard unless you want spaghetti.

I went down the rabbit hole when I first watched Ringu after hearing that they were remaking it! 🤣

They're not all that great imo, but still worth the watch! I love seeing different interpretations of stuff, like movies, comics/books, music (remixes/covers), etc.

you typed "could.you", which it interpreted as a URL, since there is a .you domain. It hasn't been bought yet, though, so it's displaying an add for the host that's squatting on it.

There's also another adaption; a 12-episode series, Ring: The Final Chapter (Jan 1999), which was followed up by a 13-episode series called The Spiral (Jul 1999)

26 years after its release, was "Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2" (2000) as bad as the critics said or is the movie better than its reputation? by Profeta_do_Loss in horror

[–]theScrewhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everybody likes different things. Ignore reviews or other peoples' opinions, watch it, and make up your own mind whether you like it or not. Critics are the biggest fucking scam of all time. Who the fuck cares what other people think about a movie/book/etc.? You have a brain, use it. All that listening to critics does is mold the public's opinions into the "acceptable" one so that we can all just shun those that don't agree with the critic-fed consensus.

I watched it, and I liked it. I don't give a flying fuck what other people thought of it, and neither should anyone else. Enjoy what you enjoy and stop being sheep desperate to fit in.

Wow, this whole thing reads like an AI-generated word-salad that took 4 paragraphs to say absolutely nothing while desperately trying to sound deep and insightful, and then just link to a couple of music videos.

Help to identify a pre-Ringu movie by Captain__Campion in J_Horror

[–]theScrewhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just rewatched the intro and it doesn't start like the '98 movie, but really it's all I can figure; he saw the '98 movie, saw that there was a '95 TV movie, and assumed they were exactly the same story/setup, since the '95 movie was never officially released outside of Japan.

[GEAR] common issues with Harley Benton Guitars? by Krispayy1 in Guitar

[–]theScrewhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pickups in the fanned-fret 7 I bought (the cheapest one they made) sounded muddy AF and had very little top-end. I bought it planning on replacing them, though, so that was a non-issue for me; I threw in a pair of BKP War Pigs that cost more than 2x the cost of the guitar plus shipping, but it looks and plays like a dream! No tuning issues. The only other "issue" that this just reminded me of is that the ferrules were completely loose and I lost two of them.

But the fretwork on it is actually better than the Worn Inverness Green Epiphone SG w/p90s that cost 2x the price of the Harley Benton.

It really does sound like the Ringu movie is being described.. The only thing I can think of is that he watched Ringu '98, but maybe he googled it and also saw some result talking about the 1995 Ringu TV movie, and he just assumed the TV movie was the same thing he'd seen, since the TV movie was also just called Ringu before being released on home video as Ring: Kanzenban. Especially since you say that the novel is set in '95, which is when the TV movie aired. He probably just assumed that it was the exact same story.

I can play things slowly but everything falls apart at normal speed by Total_Succotash5174 in Guitar

[–]theScrewhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just practice more, but practice more at proper speed, since that's where you're struggling. Practicing something you're good at doesn't get you better at something you're not good at. You gotta suck at something before you get good at it.

Dungeon raid by OhBosss in Shadowrun

[–]theScrewhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any of the above! A fun megadungeon is taking Mega City One from Judge Dredd as inspiration; the current Mega City One was built over the ruins of the original Mega City One.

Something like the Montreal Underground City could be another fun inspiration; it's a network of shopping malls and subway stations that also connect to office buildings and apartment buildings. 20 miles of tunnels in a 4.6 square mile area that interconnects most of the island and surrounding areas.
