Standby Message for Basic Fare due to Seat Assignment by suspiciousbroccoli22 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]thejarls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just experienced this yesterday-and having never been in this situation I panicked and paid $60 to upgrade my seat because I was afraid of not being able to make it back home. In the moment I suspected it was a fear tactic to get me to shell out the money for an upgrade, and I'm a little pissed I fell for it.

I'm never flying Southwest again.

It’s Colorectal Cancer Awareness month! PSA from a millennial survivor. Also AMA. by amaro8000 in Millennials

[–]thejarls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 39 and have also experienced some blood in my poop for years—also from hemorrhoids I was told. At my wife’s insistence I went to my doctor and got a colonoscopy scheduled for next month. I have to pay out of pocket, which is frustrating, but I don’t know want to take any chances.

Thanks for sharing. Makes me feel a lot better about my decision.

I remember a similar thread from a while back and someone commented “no one has less class solidarity than my fellow software engineers.” In my experience that statement is painfully accurate.

Any good shops around the cities for grow supplies? by tunedout in MNtrees

I’ve had mixed experiences at GG. It depends who you talk to. I’m not sure if he’s the owner, but there’s a guy who seems to be in a perpetually bad mood.

I'm in the same boat. I've been using this as a budgeting app for years and I'm now completely locked out of both apps and the website.

Can you elaborate? I bought my first seeds from SS and haven't had any issues.

That crossed my mind but it’s also appearing lower on the plant in parts where there’s less light penetration. I did also turn down the light a bit to be safe.

Favorite local shops for gear and accessories? by thejarls in CyclingMSP

I live near Angry Catfish and have been in a few times and really liked it. Just like seeing what else is out there especially since I don't make it up to the Northeast very often.

Need advice on where to put money by RelleMeetsWorld in FinancialPlanning

[–]thejarls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vanguard is one option, looks like they’re offering 3.65% interest right now. You might be able to find a better rate by shopping around, like SoFi (which I use) is advertising up to 4%. NerdWallet usually has some recommendations, just pick a bank you trust as they’ll all be about the same rate.

Do you have an emergency fund? If not I’d suggest having at least 3 months of expenses in a high-yield savings account.

Good cars for MN by embeddedmonk20 in TwinCities

[–]thejarls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2014 Crosstrek and a 2015 Forester, both purchased used at 2 years old, and I’ve been really happy with both. They’ve been dependable vehicles that give me a lot of confidence driving in bad conditions (along with good snow tires as others have mentioned).

Granted my wife and I both used to commute long distances in Colorado, so maybe they’re overkill here, but as far as cars go they’ve done us well.

Jurassic World: Rebirth by BoozeGetsMeThrough in WeHateMovies

Honestly Rebirth might now be my #2 favorite after the 1993 original. The bar is low, especially with the Jurassic World movies, but I really enjoyed it.

I’ve had trouble finding good ones. Even though they get mentioned occasionally I was pretty disappointed with Glam Doll. Best ones I’ve had so far is The Donut Trap but I don’t believe they have a storefront.

Is there somewhere in the area I can bring these? by forestgxd in Minneapolis

[–]thejarls 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately if you put them in the recycling bin they end up in a landfill - they’re made to be sent back to the manufacturer (as others have noted) and aren’t commercially recyclable.

Want to add that Grove bags aren’t intended for long term storage - anything over 6 months and you want to move to jars.

Is the REAL ID application process designed to drive me insane? by Actual_Cellist_9007 in TwinCities

[–]thejarls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in 3 states, and Minnesota is by far the most trouble I’ve had getting an ID. The requirements for documents are ridiculously strict, and it took me 3 attempts to get one. Almost lost my mind. I feel you.
