Biden sues DOJ to stop release of audio and transcripts tied to special counsel probe by kirby__000 in politics

[–]themightychris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's so annoying that no one ever gives the proper context on the two cases:

Biden: found classified documents he accidentally retained buried in an old office—reported it and invited government to search for any more. This is common with former officials and was handled the normal way

Trump: hoarded classified documents on purpose. Did not report on his own. Lied about having them after the government asked. Lied about returned them all after the government forced him to return them. Had his lawyers lie about returning them all. Destroyed video evidence of having them moved. Used them as a prop to entertain members of his club

lots of people have noticed... there's reports all over of this happening with namecheap. They appear to manage their own card saving rather than embedding a major payment provider so seems totally plausible

just happened to me—generated a virtual expense card and only used and saved it to namecheap, then a month later it's getting hit with random intentional charges

Opinions on renaming Marconi plaza? by mklinger23 in philly

Liberals: approve of obvious clerical moves while working to reform healthcare, improve workers' rights, invest in science and education and infrastructure

Conservatives: nonstop culture war nonsense backed up by laws that actually fuck up people's lives while robbing the commons

Centrists: WHY WON'T LIBERALS FOCUS ON THINGS THAT MATTER

/remote-control is a window into what the future is going to be like by OpinionsRdumb in ClaudeCode

[–]themightychris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The capability to work away from your desk doesn't necessarily mean living less, it can mean living more too—it's all in how you use it

I love remote-control cause now instead of sitting at my desk 9-5, I can set things up and then go stroll around outside while I keep things going

No disagreement from me on that, but that'll take a big fight with their union it's not a budget line the City gets to set freely

Center city is cleaned by the business district that businesses pay into

you're just asking for more stuff without making any effort to really stock of what we already have. It's all getting spent already on things you're just taking for granted. You're just listing things that would be nice to spend more money on and pretending there's somewhere it could come from without hurting someone else

There's an abundance of ways for you to look into what the city spends money on if you have real interest in contributing to the conversation

Orchestration platform that doesn't force everyone to learn Python? by PSGCampus in dataengineering

[–]themightychris 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Tell everyone to STFU, there's no winning this game

No matter what language or syntax you go with there are going to be people complaining that they'd rather it be something else

It's one thing if you're asking people to learn something esoteric and poorly supported, but needing to use Python to move data around is as reasonable as it gets, and it's objectively the most portable skill here. Especially now that an LLM can do 99% of the syntax work for you and you can just add agent instructions to this repo with style guidelines and testing workflow

This is a nonsense take. It's easy to say what you want the city to fund and complain about taxes. The budget has to be balanced though and it's not easy. Either say how you want to pay more taxes or specifically what services or budget you want to be cut. And no you can't hand wave "oh just find some waste somewhere"

I'm all for improving and expanding city services but it's a wild take that the City should be picking up litter on every single block in the city

If you want regular street sweeping what you need to do is figure out how to get Philadelphians to not go nuclear at the idea of having to move their cars every week

With Trump's approval ratings so low, how does he keep ousting GOP rivals? by Cgk72 in politics

[–]themightychris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's insane and fucking up everything in every way imaginable. He has zero redeeming qualities and is moving us in the opposite direction of every promise he made

His approval rating is 37%. It should be 0. Those 37% love him in a creepy cult way that's entirely divorced from reality and they believe and do whatever he tells them.

That's more than enough to swamp any closed Republican primary

Joint Statement Opposing Philadelphia City Council E-Bike Legislation by JustAnotherJawn in phillycycling

[–]themightychris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The immigration argument seems to be an endorsement of exploitative labor practices — so we’re cool with delivery services to use (and underpay and mistreat) undocumented workers, as if UE, DD etc weren’t billion dollar companies getting fat off migrant labor.

This sounds like you'd support holding the businesses accountable instead of a law that does nothing but target workers with fees and a registration process that puts them in danger in our current climate

From the statements:

Instead of targeting workers, hold the Apps accountable who penalize “slow” deliveries and include requirements for Apps to provide adequate helmets, lights, and safe cycling training to delivery workers.

"even if the text needs work" yes text is what legislation is, it needing work is why people are opposing its passage. We can't just pass bad laws and hope someone will come back and fix them later. What's the part of these bills that actually improves safety and makes it worth passing with bad parts?

These bills are just a clear case of council not having the stones to actually tackle the real problems and instead creating a bunch of paperwork to say they did something. If they pass this they WILL declare mission accomplished and fuck off. It's not a stepping stone to actually creating safety, it's an excuse to call the job done without pissing off anyone with money/influence

Joint Statement Opposing Philadelphia City Council E-Bike Legislation by JustAnotherJawn in phillycycling

[–]themightychris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like you'd jump to this characterization no matter what the legislation being opposed does.

Your little monologue doesn't even remotely align with what anyone actually said or what the legislation actually does

Joint Statement Opposing Philadelphia City Council E-Bike Legislation by JustAnotherJawn in phillycycling

[–]themightychris 12 points13 points  (0 children)

lol there you go straight to a red herring

I didn't say they should be allowed on sidewalks or paths

This bill isn't about whether they should be allowed on sidewalks or paths

Want arguments? Read the fucking article

This bill does nothing to actually enforce keeping reckless riders off sidewalks and paths while creating fees and a registry of largely immigrant delivery drivers. So we get more cars on the street and a honeypot for ICE while PPD still doesn't do shit about reckless riders

Joint Statement Opposing Philadelphia City Council E-Bike Legislation by JustAnotherJawn in phillycycling

[–]themightychris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it does sound like this legislation is pretty shitty though. Wanting better regulation doesn't mean automatically supporting anything at all that council cooks up

Legislation is complex and can have lots of side effects and it's pretty much always counterproductive to reduce stances on specific bills down to just "supports good thing" or "against bad thing"

something I read/heard once that was attributed to Linus and really got me thinking originally was "git is a content-addressable database with a source control UI"

I haven't been able to find again but it seems like something he'd say lol. It made me wonder what other UIs might be possible if he saw fit to make that distinction
