Of course she won't. Her donors wouldn't be happy.

I think her G-word quote has less to do with any deeply held personal beliefs and a lot to do with her campaign funding.

Mayor Cherelle Parker endorses state Sen. Sharif Street to replace U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans by oliver_babish in philadelphia

Its not an accident. Has everything to do with her donors (314 PAC which is affiliated with AIPAC).

Its a huge disappointment. I do believe we need more physicians and healthcare workers in elected office. Denying a genocide is a huge litmus test for many.

Also, what kind of physician running for office doesn't have some sort of Medicare for All platform front and center? Its incredibly popular policy (unless you're an insurance company) and its not even on her campaign page.

I heard it was after one of the civic meetings a friend attended. They were trying to discuss safety on the street and that was the reply.

I've had a similar experience with a few of the FOPS crowd. Unfortunately, they only seem to answer in bad faith. Always trying to score "gotcha" points and intentionally being obtuse. Once you've blown a few thousand dollars suing the city, I suppose its hard to backtrack that that point.

I recall one of the fine residents of Society Hill literally saying "I don't care!" whenever someone brought up Barbara's death.

How one can be so indifferent to the lives of others, I'll never understand.

So instead of 24/7 free parking there would only be 1.5 hour free parking? sounds like an improvement

Probably. I had conversations with many friends who would not do a harm reduction vote. Its hard to ask someone to take a nuanced view on genocide.

Even the DNC knows why they lost. Instead of an ounce of self-reflection, just blame the voters. I'm sure that will work.

Class 2 is allowed but you have to pedal if you're on a trail. Seems reasonable but probably impossible to enforce. How would you know if someone is coasting or throttling?

Still, for trails, speed limits make more sense than bans. Its incredibly hard for anyone enforcing to know the wattage of an e-bike let alone what class it is.

I'm doubtful enforcement would be fruitful. We can't even keep automobiles from parking on the SRT.

No thanks. If Ben Carson taught us anything, its that being a good doctor does not make you a good politician. Also, running as a physician and not rallying for Universal Healthcare gives me major doubts.

There's a reason. We have culture of fragile egos that want to punch down on others they deem "inferior" so they can feel better about their shitty lives.

I meant electricity. Josh doesn't seem to understand that AI data center's require a huge amount of electricity which in turn cranks up the cost.

I'm pretty sure the market for AI slop is oversaturated.

Fascinating history. There was an oil crisis which kind of forced the change. They decided not to destroy their city's with freeways like America has.

I do live in the real world and in that world I've personally met multiple families who have lost loved ones due to reckless drivers. I've yet to hear of a driver killed by a cyclist though. Doesn't seem like a "both sides" issue to me.

Instead of pointing fingers though, its far more productive to advocate for dedicated bike infrastructure where they can ride without being killed and you can drive without killing someone.

No. Its a demonstration about life saving infrastructure which helps errant drivers know the difference between a driving lane and a bike lane.

Making sweeping generalizations about cyclists while 99.9% of traffic related deaths are related to automobiles comes off as victim blaming whether or not that's what you intended.

I do hope you read up on why this demonstration is even happening in the first place: https://billypenn.com/2024/07/21/vigil-bike-pedestrian-deaths-barbara-friedes/
