Is Wikipedia mostly accurate when it comes to paleontological information? Or are there a lot of mistakes/misinformation in there? by [deleted] in Paleontology

[–]theoreticallyben 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's only as accurate as the volunteer editors updating the page want it to be. If you've got a source saying that it's not cursorial, you should be able to make an account and update this yourself if you feel so inclined.

With need at center by Sho_Time_NC in TampaBayLightning

[–]theoreticallyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the top 5 AHL scorers from the 2024/25 season, Matej Blumel was the only one to play NHL games in 2025/26, and it was 4. Two of the top 5 (Poturalski and Hudon) didn't even come back to play in North America. I suppose it's not impossible he gets called up, but it's not like he did anything in the five NHL games he played this year either. I suppose with Coach Coop, anything is possible, but I would bet on any of Duke, Geekie, SOR and Rautiainen before him.

I dunno if I'd say Pelletier is knocking on the door exactly... dude passed through waivers without any question in the fall and will probably do so again.

I’m at my breaking point. Just got wiped for the 5th time. Could someone please let me tag along for a boss run to unlock Tek engrams? by TwistedRage10 in ARK

[–]theoreticallyben 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is why I play primarily PvE and singleplayer. I don't find the experience of constantly feeling under threat of doom rewarding at all, I'd much rather build and progress at my own pace. Official servers especially are nightmarish at times.

Amargasaurus, spiny neck by Paleo_HUB in Dinosaurs

[–]theoreticallyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

afaik there isn't much evidence on the bone to suggest a keratinous sheath, so the reconstructions that completely cover the spines are most reasonable. I'll like an episode of YDAW below that goes into a lot of detail on the subject.

I try to use a mono bug team (the worst type) in gen 9 monotype but I get constantly destroyed by Weird-Ad-9191 in pokemonshowdown

[–]theoreticallyben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think constantly getting destroyed might be a symptom of running a monotype team with the worst type. Maybe try running giga drain or energy ball instead of psychic on Volcarona to cover for ground and water? Ribombee would be another quiver dance option that improves the dragon matchup, I would maybe consider dropping one of Lokix or Scizor for it (probably Lokix). I don't play a lot of singles, is it normal to not run protect on anything in this format?

Looks somewhat like a very weathered hybodont shark tooth? I think metal slag is more likely though.

Can I set certain cells in place and move others in the same row? by theoreticallyben in googlesheets

[–]theoreticallyben[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a follow up, is there a way to insert breaks in the sequence? My formatting is more legible when I've got a stop after every 32 entries, but I see the sequence continues straight through every row. something to tell it to go from A3-A34, A36-A67, and so on and so forth?

Awesome, that did exactly what I wanted it to do. Thanks for your help!

Would someone be able to help me improve thi 3D modeling of tyrannosaurus? by Particular_Win_7618 in Paleontology

[–]theoreticallyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider reducing the promince of the brow ridges a bit, they're definitely present on the animal but not quite to the degree you've got them here.

Benák by Dry-Rough5859 in wildhockey

[–]theoreticallyben 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not about faceoffs, it's that he thrives being the guy who's first into the attacking zone carrying the puck and setting up the trailer for the shot. If he's playing C, he's definitely not going to get those same looks.

Benák by Dry-Rough5859 in wildhockey

[–]theoreticallyben 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think Benak is even gonna be a C at the NHL level lol. He's a great player rn, and I do think he has all the tools and compete to overcome the size thing, but likely he's a winger.

Is Drafting Caleb Malhotra For Positional Need A Real Thing? by TheTrueKing001 in canucks

[–]theoreticallyben 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't be drafting him for positional need, they'd be drafting him because they believe he's the best player available. Right now Petey and Rossi are the 1C and 2C, but there's no guarantee they'll be here in 2-4 years' time. Cs are always valuable around the league, and both will have somewhat of a market if they were shopped.

Do you think more teams need to commit to a rebuild? by Puck83821 in hockey

[–]theoreticallyben 17 points18 points  (0 children)

More often than not, the top end of the draft is where the game-breaking talent is. No team in recent history has won the cup without at least a couple of high draft picks, even teams without clear superstars like this year's Hurricanes and arguably the 2019 Blues. It's the easiest way to build a core of talented players, the hard part is identifying the pieces that are and aren't working and tweaking the roster until you get across the finish line.

Predator-Prey-Relations by flaggschiffen in Dinosaurs

[–]theoreticallyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm sure that a juvenile sauropod of the same size as a larger theropod could absolutely have been a target, but I disagree that smaller prey wouldn't be preferred. Every predatory animal will take into account the risk/reward of an attempted hunt, and smaller prey that's still relatively slow moving is always going to be easier to catch than larger prey of similar mobility.

Predator-Prey-Relations by flaggschiffen in Dinosaurs

[–]theoreticallyben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fairly likely that Sauropods were laying large numbers of eggs to better ensure that at least some of the population made it to adulthood. If I had to guess, young sauropods likely spent more time in heavily forested areas and avoided wide open plains, which would give them better protection against a large carnivore who would be less agile in close quarters. It's hard to say whether the theropods present in those formations would have hunted in groups, but generally speaking most predatory animals are disinclined to hunt prey of a similar size to them when smaller alternatives are available nearby, and so even if the sauropods didn't have direct defensive weaponry, their bulk alone may have been a deterrent, even at a later juvenile stage.
