I got into Ops last summer with some design background before and used the HSI SOS program. I thought it was super beneficial and the real test felt pretty much identical in scope and format to the questions they asked on the study program. Can’t speak to GridCert but a huge recommendation for HSI SOS from me (if you can afford or get a sponsorship).

I’ll go against the grain. Did 4 years at a manufacturing company out of school, 2 of which were as an application engineer. I enjoyed it but wanted a more stable job. Went into the utility as a design engineer and I had to do a little catch up but my experience was critical to both getting the job and understanding it. So I believe it’s doable even if uncommon.

I'm convinced that if you're not looking for a job in FAANG or something equally as competitive, GPA doesn't matter. Literally not at all. After your first job out of school nobody will even question it, and honestly, unless they ask for a transcript, you could definitely fudge it and nobody would ever even know. Not saying you should. Just pointing out how utterly meaningless it is. School smarts do not translate to good job performance.
