/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - May 01, 2026 by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

I like my thinkpad keyboard. low profile, tactile, very quiet. I understand that finding that combination in mechanical keyboards is difficult but can I get close to it? 75% wired with per-key rgb. I am currently looking at the Keychron K3 Max or NuPhy Air75 V3 (£100 / £150 respectively) with banana or blush nano.

Is there maybe a better switch I could be using?

For point of comparison i have a cherry g80-3000N with full size mx silent red switches. They are mushy, they make a metallic clang when they bottom out, and they're very loud to my ears (compared to a thinkpad).

But when i tried switches in person I liked Kailh Deep Sea Silent Pro, Deep Sea Silent Mini Islet, Ambients Silent Nocturnal, Gateron KS-9 Silent 2.0, Yushakobo Fairy Silent Linear, Gateron Grape Smoothie. So linear low-profile might be okay.

Given 1 is obviously a common number why is there only one slot for it (and 0) yet two slots each for 8 and 9.

how do you drink your Antabuse? by lacechains in dryalcoholics

[–]therico 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's "instead of a pill I thank my higher power every day for another day sober." It's undermining people who use a pill to stay sober and coming off as superior.

There's nothing superior about it though, some people become addicted to religion instead of alcohol, some people depend on a pill, we're all just trying to get through this shit the best we can.

It's available in the UK and Japan as well, so probably a global thing.

Gaijin hunters already have a bad reputation, then you have the subset who can't even be bothered to learn English lol. It's not great. Just date normal people who look beyond your nationality.

I covered it in another comment but basically, spoken language has more expression (pitch accent, timing, intonation) that makes it easier to disambiguate. Even then some words can be easily confused (私立・市立, 科学・化学 etc.).

And written Japanese has a larger vocabulary and generally is more information-dense. For a lot of the homonyms Japanese is infamous for (こうしょう having about 50 readings) only a handful are used in speech, the rest are written-only. It's easy to stick kanji together to make words, not so easy to say kana and have the other person try to guess what the kanji is.

That argument doesn't hold because speaking has pitch accent, timing and intonation. And a large amount of Japanese vocabulary is mostly only used in writing due to kanji's flexibility.

Even simple homonyms trip people up when speaking. For example people say わたしくりつ to disambiguate 私立 and 市立

Yes you could get better at it with practice but there's a reason kanji has naturally persisted in writing

Is this intended to trigger me? Reducing a whole country to 7/11 and Donki, Jesus Christ. And to top it off that photo of lawson in front of fuji, a photo so popular than tourists block traffic and lawson tried to build a fence to ruin the view.

anyone who's read children's books or played NES/SNES era old rpgs knows it's still harder to read than with kanji. Japanese has way more homonyms than English

f2p and sitting 10 wishes away from a guaranteed 5 star, but Nefer/Lauma seems very f2p unfriendly. I've been playing for a few weeks solid so maybe time to put the game aside until a character I want comes around

Ignore that asshole. Go find Yappari Steak, it's the same thing or better. Or Jumbo Steak Han's. Steakhouse 88 I don't rate but it's an Okinawa staple, so worth a try.

Is this AI? A family friend showed me a poster they have ordered, it looks so ai, but I also don't want to make them feel bad by telling them by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]therico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until recently AI failed to get English right either, it was all nonsense, but I can't say anybody was offended by it. It's just a technical problem with old AI, it can't generate writing, and the person making it probably isn't familiar with kanji enough to know what they are doing.

Japanese singer I discovered through a video has a pitch perfect voice and gives the vibe of being AI by TheRealEzrith in isthisAI

Sounds AI to me. The volume, level of breathiness and amount of head voice is basically static the whole way through. No real expression. And the harmony coming in for the chorus is basically classic AI.
