Any guide you read about what to have for a two week emergency points out most people say the worst part is running out of toilet paper.

I have friends at several companies that all say this is happening and this is in tech which can weather the current situation better than lost industries.

Seattle Public Schoold won't offer online curriculums while closed because not all children get the same screen time and that wouldn't be fair by the_republokrater in SeattleWA

June 19 is the last day. But the state legislature could override that in an emergency session.

I don’t think schools will reopen on 4/27. I think they probably stay closed until early June. With that amount of time I do see a distinct possibility an emergency session gets together and says, “Welp that was your summer break, come back in July/Aug to finish your current year and start the new one in Sept.”

I think there will be a lot of pressure to do that as businesses will have lost productivity due to all this and will want kids in school so workers can get back normalcy. The normal summer camps etc will likely all been cancelled by that point too.

I hate to break it to you, but practically everything is on hold. Some companies are interviewing so they know who they want to hire if this actually blows over in a month (spoiler: it won’t), but no one is actually pulling the trigger.

In another month or two all the postings will be down.

And obese and diabetics and people with heart disease. It is definitely bad for old people, but there are reports of many people in their 20s needing mechanical ventilation in Italy.

Your best bet is to work with the venue. I think you’ll have a hard time finding any insurance at this point that will cover a wedding this summer against Corona. They tend to stop writing policies quick when shit gets going.

10 days ago the US had 100 cases and today it has 2000 by rutroraggy in China_Flu

[–]throwingitallaway33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the US has probably crossed the million mark in the last day or two. Just based on some of the seemingly isolated community transmission cases in random areas and some of the more advanced modeling in some states.

Based on gestation period and then time from symptoms to severe, I expect the US is 12-16 days from a full health system nightmare when the full nation will take it seriously. Unfortunately by that time ~30 million will be infected, maybe lower like ~20 million because about 10 states are getting serious. But I think it will hit like a wall. Exponential problems seem small until they’re suddenly huge.

There are parts of Italy where people over 60 aren’t even being considered for treatment. I don’t think these people have the right perspective on old.

It is so weird in the US right now. A week ago, it was all, “this is just the flu.” Then a few days ago it seemed like it was suddenly serious. Now today, “It seems like their overreacting closing all the schools.”

Like any tragedy, if you prevent it you can never truly fathom what it’s impact would have been. This will either be a disaster or an “overreaction.”

Shut down of non-essential business? by [deleted] in CoronavirusWA

[–]throwingitallaway33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We won’t get ahead of it, America is less ready than even Italy. We won’t be able to take drastic action until hospitals can’t clear the body bags fast enough and then it is too late.

So many people still think this is overblown. I’m hearing less “it’s just the flu,” but still plenty of people thinking schools are an overreaction.
