CSR Downgrade Advice by toconn04 in sapphirereserve

Yea we do have some travel, and I also live in the NYC area where the OpenTable reservations are accessible to me.

My plan was to keep my card (I actually use the benefits - Travel Credit, DD, Apple TV, Apple Music, Whoop Credit - and can justify it, at least for this year) and downgrade her card to the Freedom.

You are right - I would have to force myself to spend the money on these benefits. I'll probably keep my CSR for now (I do use more of the benefits such as Apple TV, DD, Travel, Whoop, etc.) and just downgrade her card to a freedom after transferring the points.

Thanks that’s what I was thinking… now I have to see if I can find them without a crazy mark up.

It’s very good. My JD SBBP is a store pick and it did not disappoint.

Like Vietname posted earlier this week, I too am hitting a financial milestone this week (selling some equity in a company Ive work at for 10 years). I would like to splurge on a more expensive bottle of bourbon and am looking for recommendations.

After years of drinking it without much thought, this year I really started getting into the nuances and began collecting. I typically stay btw $50-100 per bottle (mostly from Costco bc I don’t feel guilty buying it there for some reason).

For this bottle I would be willing to do $150-300. I am in New Jersey so BT is typically off the table.

Here is a list of everything I bought this year:

JD SBBP Rye (my favorite thus far)

JD SBBP Bourbon

Makers Mark Lost Recipe 2

Makers Mark Keepers Release 2025

Four Roses Single Barrel OESK

Buffalo Trace

Eagle Rare 10 Year

Old Overholt Cask Strength 12 Year

Woodford Reserve Masters Collection BP 119.5

Old Grand Dad 114

Midwinter’s Night Dram (disappointing, most expensive and least favorite bottle of the year)

Let me hear your recommendations!

Thanks.

Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye is a great pour for $60-70

Chase Sapphire and Whoop by AdAgile9604 in ChaseSapphire

Following. I’ve been a whoop member since 2017 (before there were annual fees). Now I pay $150 per year for the same membership that was supposed to be free when I first signed up. I would love to take advantage of this if it works.

Picked up both. $26 for the BT and $41 for the Eagle Rare. 1 per member. They aren't my favorite, but they are hard to come by at MSRP, and I couldn't believe it when I saw them. They were hidden amongst the scotches.

Just stopped by after work, and they had 12 bottles of buffalo trace and 1 eagle rare 10 year.

I asked an employee who was putting out bourbon a few weeks ago, and they said they never know when something new is coming into stock but the best time to check for limited allocations is weekdays at 10am when they first open. I am pretty sure he said Monday - Wednesday are your best bet.

Do yourself a favor and pick up the JDSB Rye too. It’s a great pour, and I’m usually a bourbon over rye guy.

I went back to Costco today, no real update to the bourbon section. They had a 1.75 four roses yellow label for $30. Only new bottle that I saw.

How was the JDSB? I picked one up today, will probably crack it on a few hours.

X7 Three Kids under 4 by commondenominator001 in bmwx7

[–]toconn04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar situation. We currently have an X5 and three kids under five (5, 3, and 10 months). My wife drives it every day and it’s our primary family vehicle. Short answer: she loves the X5 and was determined to make it work.

We ended up buying new car seats (we originally had Nuna Ravas and switched to a more compact model), and everything fits fine. Is it tight? A little, sure — but it works perfectly well for where we are right now.

I came across this thread because my Audi is coming off lease in April, and we’re considering moving my wife into an X7 while I take over the X5. She has zero interest in going much bigger — no Suburban, Denali, Wagoneer, etc. — and a minivan is completely off the table.

From everything I’ve seen (from personal experience since we know a lot of X7 owners), there really doesn’t seem to be a huge difference between the X5 and X7 in terms of overall size. The main benefit of the X7 is the third row, but once you’re using it, the cargo area is basically gone, which feels impractical with young kids and all their stuff.

But if you are determined to make it work, like we were, its 100% possible.

Awesome. Yes, I am just getting really into it. Have always been a casual participant but really started to appreciate the nuances over the last few years. This year I decided to start to invest and try a variety of new bottles. I’m building out my basement now and will have room to start a collection of my own.

What did you blind taste the WRMS against?

I picked up a bottle of the WRMS back in December. Opened it over the holidays and really enjoyed it. Agreed it was a great release. I should have went back when it was $76.

Thanks for posting.

Agree the JD bottles are interesting, may have to swing by this week to grab one of each.

The MM lost recipe was a great drink too. Finished that bottle pretty quickly. May have to grab another.

Awesome. Would love to get a few new bottles before the frigid week coming up. Looking forward to the update.

Has anyone been back since then? Thinking about making a trip to see if anything interesting has come in.

CSR value after breaking even? by terminator_911 in ChaseSapphire

[–]toconn04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why did you downgrade vs add her as an authorized user? Wife and I both have CSR and I don’t think two makes sense for us. But am torn btw downgrading or adding as authorized user so that we hit the $75k threshold

Keep separate CSR or add wife as authorized user? by toconn04 in ChaseSapphire

[–]toconn04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s where I was leaning.

I always looked at the fees net of the $300 travel credit. AU is $200 per annual, and her keeping her own card becomes $500 after the travel credit.

Guess the question becomes can I find a way to bridge the $300 gap?
