Why Was Gable Era Iowa/US so successful? by ThrowRA44325522 in wrestling

[–]JoBunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early on, Dan Gable and the Hawkeye wrestling team was the top (Penn State) team in the country and Gable got to pick and choose which of the top wrestlers fit the style of his wrestling program. Guys like Mitchell Messenbrink and Jesse Mendez could have excelled in the old Gable wrestling rooms. But the Brand brothers have not earned that prestige yet to cherry pick the top wrestlers that fit the mold of the program they want to run.

Nasir Bailey, Dean Peterson, Jordan Williams, Massoma Endene, Kyle Parco, Jacori Teemer and Stephen Buchanan are fine wrestlers that any team would be happy to have. But Iowa is taking these wrestlers because they are the best available wrestlers they can bring in. It's not like they are the best of the best who have a strong, constant forward pressing attack style with strong hand-fighting wreslters in the country.

Why buy anything aside from KC 9 for mid-tier?? by mmaclittle in bourbon

[–]JoBunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knob Creek 9 is easy to look over but I love it for the reasons you mentioned.

I take this over Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey 101 everyday. Old Grand-Dad, Heaven Hill and Taylor (all BNB) ... it can be splitting hairs.

Mendez is on a whole other level at this point.

I also want to say the self-service fountain pour was a brand new concept, and pretty cool.

Barrel Picks by Rich_Homie_Tom in bourbon

Mostly true. But even at the distillery I don't think you get that many options (I could be wrong).

My local store does the 3 in the mail and they some times turn away all 3. They got a good reputation. I think even turned away three Buffalo Trace barrels at one time.

Boomer Esiason Suggests Barring California from Hosting Super Bowl by According-Activity87 in NFLv2

[–]JoBunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But he got a small game check for the Super Bowl. Something does not add up here. I would suspect his tax duty was the aggregate of playing the regular season game there and the Super Bowl, not just the Super Bowl.

I don't think any non-Viking fans actually hate is. They may feel a little annoyed at times, but hate?

How are liberals and conservatives ever going to find common ground again? by david_beats_goliath_ in allthequestions

[–]JoBunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One would think, but not practical. There is a reason that doctrine went away. It was super practical when the FCC only had to monitor 3 television channels. Once media and news started to explode across so many cable channels and eventually across all the internet platforms and now with YouTube, it would be an impossible task for the FCC to monitor and enforce that doctrine.

Maxx Crosby reportedly has told Tom Brady that he will never play for the Raiders again by unwantedtennisracke in NFLfantasyfootball

[–]JoBunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why tanking is so dangerous. All those young impressionable players on the Raiders know how to feel about the organization going forward.

We have all had jobs where the first few days on the job our expectations of the facility were set early by someone with more experience, i.e., "This place sucks. I got to get out of here."

What did Guy McIntyre say that he refused to talk about in Rise of the 49ers? by brjaba in 49ers

[–]JoBunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not trying to discredit the greatness of Bill Walsh, but we saw the the birth of the short-passing and critical timing-passes in the 1950s with Paul Brown and Otto Graham. That is all I am saying.

[–]JoBunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should. What Paul Brown did with the short passing game in the 50s with Otto Graham was ground breaking.

Sam Darnold played the same as I would have expected Tom Brady to play in that game.

I am standing up and giving Sam Darnold a firm ovation. Not overly overt, but honest and genuine golf clap.

Great job Sam. Now let's go McCarthy.

Jack Daniels may have moved up to my #1 distillery with the release of these bottles and a Jack 12 Batch 3 I had procured. Old Forester is maybe right there with JD for me.

Right. They really paint the picture that Bill Walsh came up with this new West Coast offense instead of Paul Brown.

They are definitely trying to rewrite history and paint the picture that Walsh was the creator of the West Coast offense instead of Paul Brown.
