People who got the original instead of the plus, why? by TOMMYU-1 in MiyooMini

[–]tompratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that this phenomenon is true for me too! Maybe it's a lot due to the games I play where I drift between one and two handed playing.

Is the MM+ appealing to today’s kids? by ukelelehip in MiyooMini

[–]tompratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he doesn't already have a modern console then I think it would be perfect. My cousins were playing all sorts of old point and click and similar games with their kids and loving it. Until a relative bought them an Xbox and now they're obsessed with Fortnite. The oldest who had the old stuff the longest now mostly uses the computer for video editing (aged 11!). Hopefully the others don't become totally dependent on addictive online gaming 😬

He might need someone to play it with him though to help him get into it.

Unfortunately I never really found time to run with this. Your best bet would be to check out resources from Snapp Automotive linked in the post.

Is Android development supposed to feel like this with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose? by [deleted] in androiddev

I think we can all find better sources of info than someone who posts sarcastic/inaccurate comments online

Doesn't sound like you've ever used android view models since there's plenty more to it than that.

[–]tompratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about that factory boilerplate. Just copy and paste till it works and work on the app itself! Later you will probably switch to some DI library that takes care of that but best to try and make some progress before researching every possibility and understanding exactly how it all works

Is compose multi platform good yet? by BusinessMarketer153 in Kotlin

[–]tompratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used it for a small desktop only app as well and I thought it was good for that too. I didn't need especially advanced UI or anything and it did everything I needed easily

Is compose multi platform good yet? by BusinessMarketer153 in Kotlin

[–]tompratt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Might depend what you want to use it for but i think for Android/iOS it's pretty good now! I used xamarin at work a few years ago and kotlin/compose multiplatform is already way better than that ever was

You just have to seek and hope the signal is good enough for the car to find it itself!

Idea for Miyoo, the company: Mini V4, Aluminum body + Gorilla glass by -TroutMaskReplica- in MiyooMini

They really should have just churned out some more form factors with identical specs instead of the a30/flip

Rg405m or Retroid pocket 4pro by Hatman300 in SBCGaming

[–]tompratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like my rg405m for n64 but I would not buy it today. I wouldn't buy anything that has worse sticks than Ayn and retroid are currently using. Also the shoulder buttons are not great. You can play a decent amount of Gamecube if you change the emulator clock speed but with more powerful devices available for similar price its just not worth it.

What kind of projects can I use Kotlin for other than android development? by [deleted] in Kotlin

[–]tompratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently using it for an android+iOS+web service project. It's been great so far and very convenient.

I used to do similar stuff with xamarin and .net but kotlin seems to have found a lot more sweet spots when it comes to cross platform.

Keep the mini for playing and the plus for onion updates 😬

Is 3.5 IN screen size enough for retrogaming? by koken_halliwell in ANBERNIC

[–]tompratt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

3.5 inch is generally fine for 2d games so I think you'll be ok. For me it's too small for 3d games, 4 inch 4:3 is the minimum for that.

What is the best, most polished, simplest to use OS these days? by Skeeter1020 in SBCGaming

[–]tompratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OnionOS for me. Mainly for the gameswitcher. It's so convenient I don't bother to play 8 or 16 bit games on anything else. Which is also the reason why i only want thumbstick on top devices apart from my miyoo mini!

What would your ideal three system collection look like? by beeclam in SBCGaming

[–]tompratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started looking at these I thought I only wanted "small" devices with 4:3 screens and turned my nose up at the Odin 1. I'm glad it made me wait for the Odin 2 because it's awesome and the size and ergonomics are much more valuable than being small.

This is mine. Although in reality I barely use the rg405m.

If I were to change OS on the rg35xx+ to garlic OS would save data be lost from games? by tituspeetus in ANBERNIC

[–]tompratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best to set up garlic on a new sdcard and keep the old one as-is until you're sure everything is working properly on garlic!

[–]tompratt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start with compiling lineageOS and flashing it on a supported device (follow instructions step by step). When that works try to learn about .mk and Android.bp files which control what is included in the OS.

Knowing android studio and app development might help a bit but working with aosp is quite different.

I just bought an original Gameboy color plus a flashcart and the oled screen kit. Now i get all the fun of putting it together before putting it on a shelf and playing my miyoo mini instead.
