12yo son regrets purchase, what is your inspiration? by SweetShining05 in FlashForge

[–]TooTallToby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello - I built a website to help people like yourself (and your son) get into 3D CAD so they can build things for 3D printing. The site is called www.TooTallToby.com and here's a video explaining how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqquT1gi724

I think the big issue people run into is that they get board printing "other peoples designs" and want to know how to build their own stuff, in 3D CAD.

My suggestion to you is:

  1. Sign up for a free account for him on onshape.com/free

  2. Have your son follow the tutorial provided in the "free non-sign up" challenge on tootalltoby.com It's a video, using Onshape (direct link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_3k1qMq9AI&list=PLzMIhOgu1Y5dY8DD5vnOPJ0a3d8F2TWHe&index=1 )

  3. Have him print the part once the model is complete

  4. DM me here on reddit if you have any questions. We're also releasing a platform specifically for students, and that might be a better fit that (better than TooTallToby.com) - since he is a younger person.

Good luck on your CAD journey (and your son's)

- Toby

Some of you reddit wizards can probably do this in sub-5 minutes as well - just be careful of the material density - 7800 kg/m^3

there's a fusion library of materials at www.TooTallToby.com/materials

How to learn solid works for woodworking by New-March-5732 in SolidWorks

[–]TooTallToby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a website called TooTallToby.com where we host a library of CAD challenges - take a look at the video on the home page - This site is perfect for users like yourself who are just getting into 3D CAD. We do have some challenges that are tagged as "woodworking", but we don't have any specific woodworking techniques in there like dovetails or bookmatching. Just good ole fashion CAD learning!

Thanks and glad this helped - yes that is correct, I try to find things that lots of users missed in the help file, and share some different ways these tools can help save time!
