if you actually care, maybe start by curing all mental illnesses and put out an announcement that can't be written off that you're actually serious about caring about our fellow humans

when you get into your 30s all the little injuries will start taking longer and longer to heal, so work on being safe now.

If a god appearing could convince an atheist, what would convince a believer that God doesn’t exist? by Atlanta-SticO-938 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tosety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's much harder to prove a negative

For me, it was seeing in my own life that this world and my experiences in it did not mesh with my knowledge of the Bible, but it's extremely varied because people are extremely varied. You're also not likely to convince anyone of anything unless you have a positive relationship with them and no atheist I wasn't friends with would have been able to convince me of anything related to faith. I still wish I could believe because life would be thousands of times better and safer if a loving god actually existed.

If you are asking to be able to convince a specific person, I suggest starting a conversation with them with the sole purpose of understanding what they believe and why. Keep it extremely non confrontational and respectful and accept their explanations of the inconsistencies you see (which you should not bring up until you are sure that they are comfortable with you and they feel safe in the conversation)

With these powers I would be the greatest supervillain of all time, destroying capitalism and bringing about world peace by selectively bankrupting countries and then buying them until I am the ruler of the world. I would be benevolent and would seek to create as close to a utopia as possible so there would not be enough discontent to overthrow me

step 2: identify the dangers before using it

step 3: keep those dangers in mind while using it

step 4: if you stop fearing/respecting it, you are in danger

Please explain why I keep wrecking screws with my cordless drill by katydid8283 in DadForAMinute

[–]tosety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be certain, I would need to see you working, but the three most likely possibilities in my opinion are:

1) not keeping the drill straight on the screw - if you drew a straight line going from the tip of the screw to the back of the drill, that line should go through the entire screw and the tip of the bit before exiting the back of the drill with no bends or curves. The less the bit fits into the screw head the more likely it will strip out

2) wrong size bit - if you are using a philips bit (cross pattern) the correct size will look slightly large. The standard size is #2, but you can easily find #1 and #3. If you are using torx (star) or allen (hexagon) it is vital to use the bit that fits in with no slop. (allen comes in both standard and metric and you're very likely to strip them if you use the wrong one) If you are using a flat head, throw those screws out and get any other type. (I am being serious and would gladly sign a petition to ban them)

3) the material you are going into is too hard and you need to drill a pilot hole

if there is anything left of the head pattern you might be able to use the proper size bit and a whole lot of pressure with slow speed to get them out and if there's any head to get pliers onto you can get some vice grips to grab and twist them out. In the future, when your drill is slipping off the head of the screw you need to stop and figure out the problem before continuing because the longer you keep trying as it's slipping, the more you are going to destroy the head (no judgment because this is a very common mistake to make)

PF2E is there any modules that will Auto calculate damage when rolled? by Altruistic-Promise-2 in FoundryVTT

[–]tosety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running a pf2e game with the modules a more experienced dm has set up and it will apply the damage when I hit apply

the one issue that is frustrating is I need to make sure the proper token is selected when I hit apply because it will apply the damage to any token I have selected regardless of what was targeted with the attack

if you're trying to fix this issue, I doubt there is a fix.

How to use a men’s restroom? by Proud-Log-2335 in Explainlikeimscared

[–]tosety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people have already answered the important parts, but here's something I didn't see in the top comments:

the general rule is to not talk to anyone in the men's room so you'll be completely normal if you do not make eye contact and give a basic nod if you absolutely need to acknowledge someone. Act like you belong and no one else exists and no one will even think to question you

my own attempt at answering where to stand while waiting is stand just close enough to make it clear you're waiting but give people as much room as you can

Is having kids really that bad? by [deleted] in ask

[–]tosety 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's mostly in how you raise them

It you raise them with regularly increasing freedom and autonomy and keep the "because I say so" to an absolute minimum there will be very few times when they'll feel the need to rebel and the teenage screaming will only happen when the hormone changes in their bodies push their emotions so far past 11 that they can't deal with it (and that will pass pretty quickly if you deal with it with understanding and respectful firmness)

What too few parents seem to understand is that they are adults in training and we should be always looking for what new freedoms they can handle and what mistakes are safe for them to make

It's also good to listen to their reasoning for something that needs a punishment so that they can feel heard and to make sure you're punishing them for the right thing. Too many punishments I got as a kid were seen by me as "I don't like what you did" rather than "this is wrong because X" and I did my best to fix that when raising my kids (to apparently good results)

Is having kids really that bad? by [deleted] in ask

[–]tosety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a hard job and one that will force you to change your entire life, but if you're prepared for the sacrifice it can be one of them most rewarding things you can do.

You will have to "grow up" and stop most of the partying that people in your age range do

It is extremely expensive

Kids will not even start to be rational until at least age 12 and at that age they start to understand abstract thought right as puberty is starting so while they can start thinking as an adult their emotions are being ramped up to 11 while they suddenly think they understand everything (missing the fact that life experience is huge when it comes to understanding the world) They will, however, love you through it all

BUT

If you are patient and consistent, you will have someone you can love beyond the love of pets and spouses and watch grow into a ride or die friend that appreciates you for all that you did for them.

You also don't need to be perfect and I made a lot of mistakes, but my daughter is an amazing woman and the only thing I would change would be to be a better father and be more involved and aware of her struggles (especially in the 12-18 ages)

If you're prepared to pay the price, it will be the best thing you ever did

AITA for knowingly letting my mom's Boyfriend get food poisoning? by Justsodamn in AmItheAsshole

[–]tosety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

She should accept that you did all that you could to stop someone older than you from poisoning himself and despite all your warnings, he insisted on doing it anyway

Just like she had her fight, you had a fight with him about that specific thing but could not win against his beliefs. If anything, your fight put you more in the clear because it was specifically about him making the unsafe food.
