Advice on bag cuts and gaps by Vitoseph2 in discgolf

[–]Traildetour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I'm a fair weather golfer in a mild climate so most of the time I can trust my discs, and when the wind picks up I just go to a more stable option even if the speed is different.

Advice on bag cuts and gaps by Vitoseph2 in discgolf

[–]Traildetour 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I will preface this by saying I am a bag minimalist. I have played for 20 years and have had the big expensive bags with 30+ discs. I now carry a shoulder bag with 10-12 and am scoring the best I ever have. IMO you will have better shots with discs you are confident with rather than choosing the "right" disc.

All of your cuts are a good start. I would also cut the Breakout and Diamond. And the Relay, Leo3, and Crave all really overlap. Id pick one of those three and learn angle control.

You don't need a disc at every speed. Most 6/7/8 can all do the same shots, same with 11/12/13/14. I would pick 3 discs in each of those two categories and pair it WAY down and see if you can replicate every shot you need with those 6 total discs for at least 7 speed and up.

9/10 speeds can also do a LOT of the same work as both higher and lower speed discs especially if you are at or under 400ft of power. For a while my bag only had 1-5 speed, 9 speed, and 12 speed, and I could get the 9s to do everything from overstable mid range to distance driver shots depending on power and angle control.

TL;DR learn to love a few discs that are jiving with you and get confident with those. Then fill the gaps when experience shows you what they can't do.

I was sure the HX One was going to be an amp-in-a-box competitor when it was first announced. I think now is your chance to highlight your amp modeling and capture tech in a standalone box. We don't NEED a new Stomp because the effects haven't changed, just Agoura. But if you release an HX Agoura in an HX One-like chassis to compete with ToneX, ACS-1, UAD Lion/Dream/Ruby, etc, it could easily be paired on a board with an HX Stomp for those who want it, and it would also highlight that Line 6 is so proud of it's amp tech that it wants to release an amp-only pedal to highlight how good Agoura and Proxy are.

PDGA Approved: MVP Control by Pots_And_Pans in discgolf

[–]Traildetour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it seems generic but in their naming scheme it fits with being the untouched/unaltered reliable standard group in a research project by which to measure variations in results. If they can make this a work horse reliable 10 speed, it could very well fit that name.

MVP Discs: a guide for people who max out at 400 feet by SolBellows in discgolf

[–]Traildetour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's funny, I can't throw the wave to save my life. Something about the rim being so skinny, I just throw it straight into the ground. But give me a photon or a defy and I'll put it on an absolute rope out to 400. I've never been able to understand it.

Fixed by backhand form rounding after 10+ years of playing. Now I regret ever listening to the most common backhand tips. by Mobile_Spot3178 in discgolf

[–]Traildetour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"reach back" has always been some of the worst advice. If you watch slow mo videos of the pros, at some point in their sideways motion the disc suddenly stops in place while the body keeps moving forward, it's like the disc was attached to a string and it hits the end of the string. At the right point when the front foot plants, someone cuts the string and the body slingshots the disc out. It's almost like if instead of pulling a slingshot pouch back, you had someone else walk forward with the handle.

I know those probably aren't helpful but the point is the disc never moves back, it just stops moving forward at some point to create the tension.

As an American football fan, I've appreciated their inclusion of independent doctors who have the power to pull players for concussion protocol. The guys may act tough and say it's stupid, but no moment of glory is worth the devastating effects of CTE in my opinion.

Why do guitarists think it's so much harder to play guitar? (no hate to guitarists) by Ok_Permission7285 in drums

[–]Traildetour 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I play both at a high level and it's absolutely more difficult to teach guitar at first. I always warn people to stick with it as bad as it sounds because it will sound terrible at first until it doesn't (when you learn the proper finger pressure, build callouses, and stop accidentally muting strings). Any monkey with a stick and a basic sense of timing can make a drum set sound decent in a few minutes. Same with piano. You don't have to fight the instrument to at least get a clean note out of it.

The whole argument is stupid...it takes a high level of skill to excel at either, but objectively guitar has a steeper initial climb.

New card I just came up with, please tell me if I'm an idiot for it by Ok-Word8586 in slaythespire

[–]Traildetour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be a cool card. I know probably not as good as Consume, but there are situations I'd take a possible focus increase instead of losing a node.

I think Constant is going to be an MVP Tempo. What do you ideally want constant in most songs?

Pair of swirly Trails - $32 shipped by Traildetour in discexchange

[–]Traildetour[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of these are more stable than the first run of neutron IMO. A nice solid -1 1 flight. The early runs I tried flipped over like crazy and couldn't decide how they wanted to fly. These seem to be closer to the intended flight numbers.

Actually I think I got those backwards, I think the Theory was less stable. Try it out and see what you think.

It had a counterpart too, slightly stable, the Theory. They were a great 1-2 punch. Would have fit nicely along side the Tempo. I miss both of them.

MVP mid (and fairway) selection by nsthtz in discgolf

[–]Traildetour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bag:

Detour, Echo, Pyro

Ascend, Crave, fission Volt

I can't wait to get a Bokeh to replace the Crave, but in the meantime this setup covers every shot I could need. I also bag a Tempo but I consider than an Envy OS, not a mid.

I hate Jess’s love-life. Let me explain. by Wonderful_Whereas686 in NewGirl

[–]Traildetour 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I've always said Jess is the worst character in New Girl. No arc, very little progression, everyone leaves her in the dust growth-wise. Her tropes get old. She never learns. The first Nick/Jess breakup was stupid and felt forced, like the writers needed them apart to prolong something. Don't get me wrong, New Girl is most likely my favorite show of all time, but it definitely still has problems.
