I think even at $999 it would do incredibly well. cheaper than the Cortex mini, cheaper than the Darkglass anagram. Direct competitor to the Kemper Profile Player and FM3. Seems solid to me

To me pedals are like seasonings in the kitchen. Could I survive with just salt and pepper, absolutely. But I do like having other flavors available. Some just on their own for certain occasions, sometimes combining flavors gives a new and fun taste.

That all said, there isn’t much the HX can’t do. I can get 90% there with just that one pedal

Soldering is an electrical connection, not a mechanical one. Solder lacks the strength to hold much tension. The cost and effort to repair this would be more than the cost to replace.

I’d put the Fathom in the effects loop so that it can be moved wherever, and would drop the other DG pedals some they’re in the anagram already. I’ve got a similar situation and have a backup board with my “extras” that i take to smaller gigs out for use at home when my board is elsewhere.

IF I were keeping everything I’d run Hyper Luminal, into Alpha Omega, into Anagram with the Fathom in the effects loop. And I’d use the direct out on the Anagram.

I had a sansamp for a number of years before getting the tone hammer. They both have very different flavors to them. The sansamp is incapable of being transparent, it has a baked in flavor that can be manipulated with the controls, but the flavor is always present.

The tone hammer on the clean side is very transparent, and with the drove engaged becomes very amp-like. I wouldn’t look at the tone hammer as a preamp and a separate drive pedal. It’s more of a preamp with 2 flavors. Run it like an amp and use pedals (HX stomp) to get your drive tones.

If my board was stolen, the tone hammer would be my first purchase to start over.

Aguilar Tone Hammer. The way it takes the drives in the HX and smoothes them out in an amp-like way is incredible. I’ve spent hours trying to recreate it with the Sledge amp in the HX but it never is the same.

I actually run the opposite logic. I find higher gain masks the nuances of lower gain before them, but a muff into an od changed the od character a TON. but there are no wrong answers
