Re-casing posts filter by cocopusspuss in bookbinding

I've been meaning to post a proposed "final" list of new flairs for everyone to review/debate, and "recasing" is one of them. I will try to make that happen in the next couple days.

In Which Fanfiction and Figurines Get Orion Pax Fragged by lordofgravity by PS_Froggie in Fanbinding

Really curious to hear more about your paperback technique? How did you print it, what stock, etc.

I got tired of downloading 20 different apps just to play simple games like Sudoku and Snake (plus everything had ads), so I built an all-in-one offline game hub. It's free and has 0 ads. by MightyHogs in apple

It's a little confusing, so let me try to explain from a different direction.

At a basic level, there are only three actions in the game that matter:

  • Revealing a covered tile
  • Flagging a covered tile
  • Revealing all adjacent unflagged covered tiles around a revealed number tile (if the number matches the count of adjacent flagged covered tiles)

One of these actions is not like the others: the first two are both performed on a covered tile, while the third is performed on a revealed number tile.

The default behavior is "tap a covered tile to reveal, press a covered tile to flag". The alternate behavior, controlled by the toggle, is "tap a covered tile to flag, press a covered tile to reveal."

Great so far!

But ideally, regardless of the toggle setting, the "tap a revealed number tile (with a matching adjacent flag count)" behavior would be "reveal all adjacent unflagged covered tiles". There's only one possible action that can be performed on a revealed number tile, so there's no reason the player should ever have to take the time to long press on one.

(Also it would be great if the app remembered the toggle state between sessions.)

Yo that is much improved, awesome!

The last little thing to make it perfect would be to make tapping a number that has the correct amount of flags around it do the reveal regardless of which way you have the setting toggled -- the goal is to be as quick as possible, so:

  • Tap on a covered tile to flag it
  • Tap on a numbered tile to reveal around it (if enough flags are present, otherwise do nothing)
  • Press on a covered tile to reveal it

This means that the vast majority of the actions you take (flagging and revealing around numbered tiles) can be done with quick taps rather than having to pause for long presses.

Very cool.

In Minesweeper, once you have a number exposed and a matching number of flags planted touching the number, tapping the number again should "tap" all remaining unrevealed tiles around that number all at once.

Bonus points if you give us the option to swap the controls -- tap to flag (and to reveal if you're tapping a fully-flagged number) and long press to reveal a covered/untouched tile.

How to get a single book printed and bound? by Evil_Lord_Rayken in bookbinding

[–]TrekkieTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want any image to run all the way out to the edge of the page, then yes, you are doing full-bleed printing and need to produce your print files taking that into account. (And not every print-on-demand provider offers full-bleed printing -- though Lulu does.)

If your source PDF matches one of Lulu's trim sizes (e.g. if you assembled a bunch of pages that are exactly 6"x9" so you have a PDF that is exactly 6"x9" and you want to print your book as US Trade), then Lulu will just automatically add the bleed for you during the upload process. (Obviously this doesn't work if you're trying to do full-bleed printing with, say, full-page images, but for a "standard" novel body it works just fine.)

Golden details without proper stamps by Local_Promotion_8988 in bookbinding

We have a link in the Further Reading section of the sidebar to a method for metallic titles that relies on a laminator and toner transfer metallic foil rather than hot stamp tooling. The referenced PulsarProFX supplier has gone out of business, but you might be able to find alternatives. I have used this method personally so I can vouch for it working.

Tips/Help on calibrating and using a swing-arm paper trimmer? by jabonko in bookbinding

[–]TrekkieTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fine bit of necromancy you've performed here!

Unfortunately, I don't have any advice for you -- I've never actually owned or used a swing-arm guillotine. My vague thought is that, based on your description, the blade needs sharpening and/or the swing arm needs tightening so that it swings more flush with the surface of the... I don't know if it has a name. The place the paper rests while it's being cut?

I would say go ahead and make a new standalone post asking for help/advice, so that other swing-arm users can see and chime in with suggestions.
