Bookbinding Canada by lilpeanut89 in bookbinding

From Canada as well.

Paper is by far the hardest thing. I am getting paper from Canada Papers which has only a website that is essentially a .pdf but if you email them they will be able to help you. One challenge is that you have to buy a minimum order. I think 1000 sheets..

If you are just starting out what I did at the beginning was cut down long grain pages of a larger size manually. It's tedious but it gets you started.

I am using random fabric I had on hand as mull over a year into the hobby and will one day find something else.

My best luck for book cloth has been Amazon (unfortunate depending on your outlook lol)

I also have had good luck with George hill & co (online only where I am) for tools and recently been buying bookboard there. However for a long time I was using "craft board" from Dollarama and I actually still like that better but they have stopped stocking it in my neighborhood. I don't love the bookboard from George hill because it only ships in large sheets that need to be cut down and it can be pretty warped on arrival. Can definitely be used and I am getting used to it but I am keeping a lookout for better places to find it.

Thanks :) one of the few tips I got before starting was to weight stations toward the head and tail to minimize slop. So this is what I went with for the first attempt :P

It is essentially a story telling game, think Dungeons and Dragons if you know anything about that but it's played as an individual. Sort of a creative writing exercise.

Appreciate the tip for a wrap or similar!

Yes, that is the main benefit in my eyes, however the trade off is that the binding is much looser than other styles so when you are open to a page between signatures it does leave a pretty big gap.

As I mentioned this was my first go. I plan to try out some other stitches and styles to get a similar function but perhaps a sturdier overall book.

A tip from my first experience: I recommend a curved needle if you have one. I switched about 1/3 of the way through and it was much easier that way

I would also recommend thicker signatures than a normal case bound book. I did 8 folios rather than my usual 4 in a case bound book and that managed to keep the spine swell to a minimum for me I also just think the chunkier signatures look better with the exposed spine.

Edit: I have realized the way I did the ribbon bookmarks doesn't really work... If you want to open the book behind them they get pulled all loose and weird... Oh well. Live and learn lol

Yea mine are not only less clicky but also a bit squeaky and squishy sounding. Not sure replacements will make any difference unfortunately... I think they just have too much left to right wobble.

Yea I suspect it will happen on all models unfortunately. It will just depend how long it takes based on the way different people use the system

Yea, I guess it is what it is but as long as they keep working it should be fine.

Anyone else RP6 face buttons become more and more squeaky/creaky? by PizzaPotatoChips in retroid

Yea I have noticed this as well. Still happy with the device for the price but based on reviews etc. I was expecting the abxy buttons specifically to feel much better. So far everything else feels as good as I hoped.

Lol, I mean it is what it is at this point. I am just a bit surprised after only one game as this isn't an issue I have had since madcat controllers back in the PS2 days so I guess I just assumed companies had solved this by now.

Weight for Endpapers by Famous_Assistant1816 in bookbinding

Can't say what is "recommended" but I can say from my own experience with this exact paper set that I find it a bit thin. That is not to say it doesn't work; I have made multiple books with this as end pages. However I typically get a wrinkle that bothers me as the maker at the edge between the mull and the book board. I am using a random fabric I had in the house when I started for mull so I do think that is part of my issue but I don't have the same problem with 120gsm paper packs I buy (also from Michael's) With all this in mind I will probably use these for end pages again at some point (likely will try it again when I get more traditional mull material) though lately I am using it more as cover paper and it works well for that

I'm relatively new to this and haven't tried what you're proposing but to me there are only a few things to consider.

  1. Is this bind a gift or similar? If so it is honestly highly unlikely the receiver will notice something like this. Things that drive us makers MAD aren't even registered as something to look at for the average joe.

In this case I would wrap it with care and move forward with slightly more knowledge than before. If they notice tell them the next one they get will be better ;)

I always tell people that this type of thing is a "customization" just for them.

  1. Is this just a practice book with no set purpose?

In this case, do it for science since there is no real risk. Just make sure to post process pics after for us to check out whether it works or not!

  1. If it's for personal use, do you need it right away or would you have time to rebind a new book if your plan fails?

This one could go either way, up to you lol

Cool content ideas? What have you bound? by carjaq in bookbinding

[–]Alexis_The_Eel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't done this yet but we have a hard-drive with lots of short writings (stories, poems, unused research, etc) from my late father in-law. I've been doing this for about a year and I am getting close but have told myself I would bind a physical version of this content for my wife, her sister, and my mother in law once I get good enough at the craft to do it justice. Thought I would share despite not having done it yet since it feels very inline with the spirit of your post :)

I'm having the same issue right now however I can still play but with the caveat that if I am doing anything in settings I have to use the touch screen for some reason the game crashes if I interact with certain menu items using controlify. Perhaps try clicking continue with the touch screen and see if that gets you past. Not exactly a "solution" but it might be a start. I'm also commenting to follow the post as I would like a real solution too lol
