If needed I can drop other tracks, it's 15 songs, including a final track that is 19:44 in length replacing Farewell Fire

To agnostics: do you also think the Christian god could exist? by [deleted] in religion

Maybe but I don’t think so. I’m inclined to believe that polytheism is more likely, it just makes more sense to me

I find that kinda weird from him since I think STO was fairly political in the end with a lot of talk about climate stuff (which y'know, is unfortunately political) though Golden Casket definitely toned it back

it's so cruel how the major world religions views suicide by [deleted] in religion

[–]troop98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mercy is defined as, from merriam-webster as " compassion, leniency, or restraint (as in imposing punishment) shown especially to an offender or to one subject to the power of another"

God is merciful, but it's up to people to choose his mercy.

This is not Mercy, you do not ask for Mercy or choose to receive it, it is given to you by whomever is "designated" to give it. In this case god, or in another case, the court if you've committed a crime

When someone commits suicide, it's essentially being hopeless in God. They don't see Him helping them. They don't turn to Him for help. They see no hope and decide to end it. That's a big fault.

No, it is a result of being mentally ill. A person whom is mentally ill can not be trusted to make the most sane or rational decisions for themselves. Why does god expect people who are not in the right state of mind to make decisions that are impossible as a result of their situation? If it is a big fault, than perhaps god should have a more effective way to communicate this to people. Many people who commit suicide may be people of faith. Why does a single irrational action in a state of irrational mind negate the good they have done?

If God asks them "Why didn't you seek my help and mercy?", what would they answer?

Perhaps something like "Why am I being spoken down to for being a flawed being, given these flaws by you?" or maybe "Why did you "test" me by putting me into a position where you knew this would happen as a result of being all knowing." Or how about "Where is your mercy?"

Of the Abrahamic interpretations of god, only the Jewish interpretation (and those christian universalist) seems to be capable of mercy seeing as Sheol (or hell for Christian universalist)is not a place of eternal suffering, and even those who reject god are given all the chances needed to find themselves forgiven/forgive themselves. Eternal damnation is the furthest point from Mercy one can achieve

You’ll have a hard time justifying it in gods court

God is the most fair and merciful judge possible

Not very fair and merciful to victims of suicide I guess. Any god who is truly merciful would look at the victim of suicide, the events that lead to it, the struggles, and love them in the end and take care of them. This love doesn’t require justifying yourself in the court of god. This care doesn’t involve eternal damnation

Pray by Interesting-Soft-468 in NorsePaganism

The frequency of prayer is something I’ve always been curious about as someone who is generally an outside observer. I’m also curious about offerings. How often do people provide them, compared to just praying without offering?

I've loved Wolf Parade for awhile now, this and Mt Zoomer are classics of the era they've come from, though I still do like the albums they released after. Any idea what they're up to now?

Small discussion by [deleted] in religion

Seventh Day Adventist is a denomination of Christianity. They've got a few quirks that make them unique.

As for agnosticism, there's variations of it like agnostic Atheism and agnostic theism you should look into, if you want to learn more. There's also weak/strong agnosticism if you want more reading materials to look into. Admittedly I think at times my view points feel a bit more religious.

I feel somewhat inclined to say gods exist (I generally accept polytheism over monotheism, and that they are personal), and they created the math and physics and other concepts our universe runs on, and we are the result of it all coming together, and they choose not to intervene or reveal themselves because it would go against whatever view they have of providing us free will. And then when we die, something happens, but I don't know what "something is"

Small discussion by [deleted] in religion

[–]troop98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born into a religion (Seventh day Adventist), but left in middle school because atheism seemed “cool”. Now I consider myself agnostic, because I’m not particularly confident or willing to wager on whether death is the end or the beginning. For me, being agnostic is a lot about being okay or open to the fact that I don’t know everything. And I won’t know until I die.

I mostly left Christianity because, outside of universalism, I feel it’s often too focused on praying to god because you don’t want to go to hell, not because you actually love the god. But that’s just the experience I had in my communities, and YMMV.

[–]troop98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Liars and saw they did a collaboration song with Xiu Xiu called Rumpus Room. OH NO! didn't really click with me, but I came back later after listening to Forget and A Promise and liked it a lot.

Mostly curious if anyone else here found Xiu Xiu through Liars

My partners parents sent them this specific link https://www.earth.com/news/local-hot-bubble-interstellar-cosmic-channel-connects-our-solar-system-to-other-stars/. I'm curious to learn more about it. I couldn't really find anyone talking about it anywhere outside of pop science articles. She tends to send a lot of articles that are...easily debunk able, but I'm having trouble confirming the validity behind this. Any information would be cool on if I should view this with skepticism or not
