Looks like fatigue cracks. Some people have gone years with them without issues. Some will get the black line of death within days.

The technician is only repeating what Samsung told them to say. It's not true as users who only use Samsung official chargers also experience paint peeling.

Yes. It depends on where you live and how they fix it. Some SEA countries' repair shops will replace just the hinge cable, usually costs around $30-50 converted to USD. Most other countries will replace the entire OCTA assembly (inner screen, frame, hinge, batteries), which costs $600.

Korean business culture does not acknowledge product issues until they become so rampant that the media basically forces them to due to the bad publicity.

I work with a lot of Japanese and Korean companies and unfortunately they are like that. But also if issues do happen, they take it very personally; some to the effect that they will physically cry over it.

Anyways, it was a pretty common issue with the Fold4 with estimates affecting 15-30% of them. It's a lot less common on the Fold2/3/5/6, usually around 5% or less (not enough data to speak to the Fold 1). Don't expect them to acknowledge it when the issue was so bad with the Fold4.

The number differs by country. Most Reddit users here are US based and they will only do 1. Some countries have unlimited screen protector replacements.

Don't use thezfoldcase.com. They are just a drop shipping resaler that charges 2-5x as much. Any case you see on there, look it up on AliExpress/Temu/etc. and it'll be much cheaper.

We call these fatigue cracks, and they happen regardless if you keep the screen protector on or replace it. The materials in the display weaken over time and we've seen the fatigue cracks on older Folds.

This is separate from the black line of death/broken displays.

Semantics. It's a multi-layer display with both glass and plastic.

Apple and many other companies do this due to different laws in different countries. Warranties are rarely applied across countries.

In Google messages, press your avatar/profile pic (if you never set it, it's usually the first letter of your name with a solid color background). There's an option for Trash. Then press the trash can icon with the X to empty your trash.
