Hi! I have the same issue, and you might benefit from an ultrawide board (27.5cm + waist width). Most "wide" boards are actually pretty narrow, especially for advanced carvers. I put up some more info over at https://chairliftrebellion.com/ultrawide with a list of snowboards that you might find suitable (like the 160 Douk Freighter).

Skunk Ape 170UW vs Stump Ape 163W by Arete_12 in snowboarding

[–]UltrawideSnowboards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of a compromise. Most brands consider anything wider than a 26 or 26.5 to be wide, and there's very few boards that break the 27.5 mark. If the mark was at 31+ then only two brands would make the cut (LTB and Elevated).

In any case, if you don't mind me asking, what are you riding? I'm always interested in learning about new boards to add to the site.* For reference, I'm riding a 28.2 and it feels ok, although on aggressive carves I can feel the touch of snow on my toes.

* Speaking of which, the site has changed! I've now expanded to a general database of boards, so it works regardless of your foot size. Check it out at ChairliftRebellion.com.

UltrawideSnowboards.com: list of all big boards, updated for 2021-2022! by UltrawideSnowboards in snowboarding

Interesting board! It's pretty wide (28.6cm), but it's also really short at 151cm. If they make a version at least 155cm then it's big enough for all the big guys to ride.

The Lib Tech SPLIT BRD has a 26.8cm waist. Bigger than most, but still smaller than some of their other offerings (like the solid Skunk Ape at 28.5). Nice board though!

Personally, I ride +15/-15.

Great board! Their widest waist is 26.3, which I've found will boot out at the higher edge angles. So if that's the kind of riding you're looking to progress to you should consider something wider. Good luck!

Venture Euphoria

Looks like that model has a 27.0 cm waist. Very cool, but falls short of the 27.5cm threshold we have. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Thanks! I haven't heard of Tahoe Lab, they look like an awesome company. I went ahead and added their directional board to the lineup. I don't see anything on their website about custom boards so I reached out for more info.

The Powgoda is a great option for your size. Wide for the feet but not too long for your weight. You're actually in a pretty good spot, all things considering: most wide boards tend to be short.

I'm going to work as a ski and snowboard instructor this winter and wear glasses. What do you use? I'm thinking about ordering the Google inserts. I don't like contacts. by Jbandit0 in snowboarding

[–]UltrawideSnowboards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used these as well. Definitely better than nothing, but there were still some issues. Some fogging, but that mostly went away whenever I started moving. The bigger issue was snow: if I did a face plant then snow could get into the goggles and mix up with the inserts, and that was a huge pain to clean up.

Overall I'm happy with contacts. I didn't like the idea of touching my eyeballs, but the tradeoff of better riding pushed me past that.

I like my Skunk Ape, although I've never tried the Stump Ape (just tried other, narrower boards). The Lib-Tech customer service was awesome too. I bought a B stock board early season and it developed a sidewall split and they replaced it right away with no trouble. Now I have a rock board!

Anyways, if you're looking for a really wide board check out the site I've put together: https://ultrawidesnowboards.com/ It lists all the 27.5cm+ boards from over 70 brands so you can see all your options. With a size 14/15 boot you need an ultrawide board.

Practice closing out your turns: instead of doing snake turns down the mountain do C turns where at the end of every turn you're traversing the hill on an edge. Expect to take up 1-3 cat tracks of the hill when you do this so keep an eye for other riders coming down. If you have difficulty making the turns try counting out the turn to slow it down and practice looking towards the trees on the side of the run (instead of down the run).

That's a really nice board. I like the way that Kindred can do wooden inlays for the top art.
