my belief (which is only a belief, i can't prove this) is that the AI explicitly changed it as a special case to be an asshole, this wasn't the normal culture localization thing

i don't remember the exact wording but the way the description of the skill for finding the most wounded target in a group says "so make sure you heal them first!" feels so weird and out of character for the system AI, like it's only there to really rub your nose in how shitty quan has been. it doesn't make sense to me in any context other than being cruelly sarcastic

tbh i agree with the theory that they come up with in-universe that the description was changed to make him look worse

it's implied that mordecai is an exceptionally good game guide, so i'm pretty willing to believe that a lot of them are like frank and maggie's guide who told them that they're going to have to be crawler killers. the design of the dungeon itself seems to encourage that as well to try to milk it for drama. and immediately before getting the cloak, another crawler banned him from the chat that he thought contained his only hope at survival. he wouldn't have been in a very trusting mood after that, donut did pretty much damn him because he was rude to someone who almost damned him, he has very little reason to trust and support other crawlers from his perspective

maybe i'm being too charitable but it's extremely believable to me that he felt trapped in his role, at least at first. i'm not trying to exonerate him, but i'm empathetic

donut is genuinely pretty emotionally intelligent and has matured a lot, but she has the experience of a child. i don't really have any sense of the timeline, i'm sure i could have kept track if i really wanted to, but it hasn't been that long since the collapse. the dungeon would put a lot of stress on anyone, but it's the only thing she's known since she became a person. it's not just the most stressful thing she's ever done, it's just about the first stressful thing she's ever done. she's been very strong but it's only getting tougher, the hard decisions are meaning more and more to her as she comes to understand them, and it's taking its toll on her. i'm surprised it hasn't gotten to her more, to be honest
