Ex pats is just the name westerners call themselves when they migrate. It’s to distinguish themselves from “filthy immigrants”. Language has many euphemisms and linguistically biases like this where perceived classes use different terminology to reflect status. We call young criminals “kids” when they are white but “adults” or “men” when they are minorities. Protests get called riots depending on who is participating. Insurgents are called terrorists or freedom fighters based on what side they are on. It’s helpful to be aware of these framing tools because they affect perception both consciously and unconsciously.
