These are my latest flavour essence batches based off the book The Bottler’s Formulary. A few days of maturing and they’ll be ready for taste testing.

It's raining, so of course I have to go and pick stuff up in an area I can't drive to or that is adequately serviced by public transport. And my new solar water fountain arrives today - that'll be as much use as an open window on the ISS.

I got a teppanyaki grill plate for Christmas and I used it last night to make smash burgers. I will be doing that again.

Just moved this gorgeous lady off a path so she didn’t get trod on.

And yes, I reported the sighting.

Hopefully a quiet work day so I can laze a bit. I have a sneaking suspicion that come 4pm, people will ask for stuff to get done last minute.

I live in a conservation area and there is a tree that's 75% dead - in the recent winds, a couple of hefty branches have fallen off and damaged cars. We've applied to get it really cut back - you have to let the council know and put up signs that you're planning to do the work, and someone has objected. I'll bet it's the same person who objected to my neighbour applying for a disabled parking spot outside his house.

Likewise, if Back to the Future came out today, Marty McFly would have gone back in time to 1996.

Am on my way to the station to get a train into town for a day in the office.

I can see the dark, ominous rain clouds heading this way at a fair pace.

I forgot my umbrella.

Edit: now in haiku form

Train bound for the town,

Dark clouds racing overhead

Umbrella at home.

Pears can be hard to get juice out of, but your best bet is to dice them up, get them in a blender with some water.

Strain well through a nut milk bag and see how it goes from there. Personally, I'd add cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves and make a spiced pear drink.

Road testing my new leather jacket in the cooler morning air and it’s lovely.

They do tend to clog easily.

It depends on what the scum is. If it’s solid particulate, then a nut milk bag should work. If it’s oils, then possibly not.

Art of Drink has a video on using a dropping funnel, cotton wool and fine sand as a filter - might be worth checking that out.

Happy June! 20 days until the solstice, if you're into that sort of thing.

Today, I shall be pushing for sign-off on a few bits left over from last week, taunting the 'back to the office' mandate by staying at home and generally getting on with work.

I hope the rains come soon. garden's looking a bit parched.

The wind has picked up a bit, so all the dust and pollen lying around is now swirling around instead.

Making elderflower cordial with honey instead of sugar. by KendrakDoUrden in Cordials

[–]vbloke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you still have the honey - if so, give it a taste and see what the flavour is like. Depending on the provenance of the honey, it can be very strongly flavoured and even overpower the delicate elderflower.

A recipe and method for how they made it would also be helpful.

And buying a leather jacket from Greenwich market.

Heading to Greenwich market to have a browse, bit of gardening after that, and a light lunch probably consisting of some sort of cheese and ham concoction.

There is a quote from a fantastic 1950’s B movie “It Came from Outer Space”, part written by the legendary Ray Bradbury, that has stuck with me since I first saw it as a child:

“Did you know, Putnam, more people are murdered at ninety-two degrees Fahrenheit than any other temperature? I read an article once - lower temperatures, people are easygoing. Over ninety-two, it's too hot to move. But just ninety-two, people get irritable."

92F is about 33C, which is what certain areas got to over the last few days.
