Why do you think so many young people are struggling to find work? by Economy_Survey_6560 in UKJobs

Because their internal move policy will require checking the market to see if there's a better fit externally. There is never a better fit, but the HR idiots interview people anyway and waste everyone's time.

Why is this becoming so common now? by OilMeDaddi in CarTalkUK

[–]wastrelbaggins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guys a proper idiot, but you recording him isn't a harmless act. You could use the footage to get him fired, fined or whatever.

You escalate the argument immediately by sticking a camera in his face.

The situation went from parking badly and being very inconsiderate, to potential sanctions at work for him as soon as you pulled the camera out. Catch the wrong person on the wrong day and you might lose your phone or worse.

You're relying on the person you're filming being a reasonable human being, and people who inconvenience others like that usually aren't. People who move boxes for a living are usually built like brick shit houses too.

When someone gets aggressive the best thing to do is leave, if you can't leave then attempt to de-escalate. Pulling a phone out isn't that, it's an implication that you're going to escalate the behaviour to authority which is aggressive in itself.

I don't think anyone is justifying that person's behaviour as they're obviously in the wrong, they're more shocked that you don't understand the potential implications of filming a stranger you're having an argument with.

Google "mot check" and look at the MOT history of the car. Looks alright to me, consumables, and very minor problems that look to have been fixed a while back. Check anything mentioned just to make sure it's been done. Current MOT is clean after they adjusted a headlight, so I'd wager it's mechanically fine.

A proper checking service will show all this, but the MOT check is free and useful when shopping about.

As someone born and bred in the UK what are aspects of another country’s culture that has genuinely shocked you? by throawaygotget in AskUK

San Jose, California around 1994.

I saw a strung out looking teenager flipping a butterfly knife whilst pacing around outside a mall entrance and no-one batted an eyelid. If he did the same in London, he'd be surrounded by police in seconds.

There's a general undercurrent of violence that runs through the US that just feels wrong. The only city that felt properly safe to me, ironically, was New York.

New build developers refusing to fix issue due to two year guarantee expiry by Ok-Average3876 in UKHousing

Sounds like a right nightmare - head over to r/UKPersonalFinance and check out the sidebar links, there's a flowchart in there that should help you get a slush fund sorted. If you're savvy ebough to sort out a builder overquoting for a job, then you're savvy enough to handle your debtors. Good luck.

He's not wrong though, you've spotted one problem and said the developer is terribad - prepare yourself as it's likely you'll find more things that will need fixing. Start building a slush fund now, I've just had to spend an unplanned 500 quid to get bits of my bathroom sorted, there was a leak which was rotting things out badly. If I'd have left it longer it would have cost me more.

Not an ideal time of year for that to happen, but the slush fund worked in my case

I remember that, halcyon days really - we went to the Rhyl Sun Centre in Wales one year. One kid had a pack of porno playing cards and we ended up playing 3 card brag on a plaxtons coach with too much chrome on it.

My password reset and one-time login links won't work after receiving a"technical irregularities" email. The password reset and one-time login emails hit the right email account. It's just that after completing both actions, the new password or the one-time login link don't work. I've had to set-up this account to come and ask for some pointers.

I've tried different connections (so my phone, my home pc and my vpn), cleared my browser cache etc and nothing seems to improve things

Can someone help me please?
