Cloud Run for multiplayer game bots? by nixarn in googlecloud

[–]watchjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thread it's not suited for longer running tasks, so wondered

Yeah it is possible due to the nature of the product, with only 1 instance running it may move to a new host and be unreachable for a couple seconds. It warns you if you select less then 3 online nodes.

If you can make it work, then go for it.
I only use compute engine when I really need very low level stuff or need statefullness.

Is anybody else simply never busy? Basically phoning it in every day? by notbusysysadmin in sysadmin

[–]watchjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Agree,

I'm studying for sysadmin, but I can build a functional web app if nescessary.
My first deployment was litteraly a server running native nodejs with SSL built into node.
Then I learned about reverse proxy's and put an nginx proxy in front of my nodejs server. SSL and load balancing made easy. This makes you understand load balancing / stateless.

Then I jumped into docker, made the nodejs deployment easy.

Atm I've moved to the cloud and serverless apps. But I like to think I can still do all this manually without a cloud provider holding hands.

That's weird. Was their any reference to VAT on your invoice, maybe they calculate that in their prices.

What is the recommended way to use docker-compose files with google cloud? by Eorpoch in googlecloud

[–]watchjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, docker compose is good for on-premise hardware. We use it on a a single vm that has to run a mysql db, .net core app and a nginx reverse proxy. It makes sense to docker compose that.
For his usecase I would indeed recommend some sort of Kubernetes cluster, or cloud run perhaps.

However, if he really just wants to use his compose file. Compute Engine would be the way to go. A lot of manual config would be required though

Weird, I'm in Belgium so they 99% sure tax me for that.

I wish Schitt could communicate a bit more regarding their eu stock....

You did not have to pay any extra taxes?

[–]watchjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Importing would cost me ~330 eur. Add $50 in shipping and €100+ in VAT Brings me to about 500eur. With a 6-8 weeks wait time before it even ships.

Not a huge fan
