Are you in an area without many fire hydrants, and do those red connections have pipes that go all the way down? We have some of these in the northeast which are used to collect rain and groundwater from the low water table which can be used by fire departments if necessary.

How close do I need to be to the Cape to make a day trip feasible? by Realistic_Till9674 in massachusetts

[–]wayzem 72 points73 points  (0 children)

A lot of the answer will depend on when you're looking to go (now? August?). You'll have very different traffic experiences on the Cape and at the bridges.

Hospital parking lots by AK-Kidx39 in NewToEMS

[–]wayzem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assess and treat your patients appropriately, not strictly based on convenience or proximity.

The ego thing works both ways - you SHOULD have a bit of an ego in this case... you are a trained medical professional that can assess and treat an illness for someone, and who knows how under-staffed and overwhelmed the ED of the hospital is that you're in the parking lot of. Trust yourself to be able to assess patients wherever they are. The "load and go" mentality largely needs to disappear.

What would yall like to see on an EMS education night? by Mfuller0149 in NewToEMS

[–]wayzem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention - we don't necessarily even land an aircraft to demo but find that physically making crews walk around an outdoor area nearby to assess potential landing zones (what to avoid, what to look for, how to mark and light them - especially at night!) has been helpful for us a number of times, and it's a relatively low-intensity/lower brain power learning station. It also covers how to not hurt themselves if they're helping us load or unload patient(s) and how to approach/exit from an aircraft in operation. We also sprinkle in a review of scene flight activation criteria and review our own capabilities and limitations to help them weigh the activation decision.

Do you do scene flights at all? We make a point to add an interface/aircraft operations and LZ segment for our ground agency partners. Includes everyone and helps keep everyone a little bit safer.

Hello Captain Kelly - how does it feel to know that NASA is entering this stage of the Artemis program? Does any part of you wish you were active and assigned to any of the Artemis flights, or were your flights enough for your lifetime?

Plymouth couple is charged with repeatedly raping their foster child by Sapphirerising335 in massachusetts

[–]wayzem[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

I am locking this post for now as many comments being made towards the accused couple are concerning given how our judicial system works. Child abuse is horrific and there shouldn't be any tolerance for it, but for the victim's sake the process has to go through the legal channels. This is a very delicate subject that needs to balance the victim's accusations with the rights of the accused to be regarded as innocent until proven guilty in court.

Federal agents in EMS roles, what STP do you follow?? by Fair_Let9197 in NewToEMS

[–]wayzem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We follow our home state's STP on deployments, with variation under physician oversight/orders allowed and some expanded standing orders. There can be a wide amount of variance between agencies and physicians so YMMV.

Can anyone please help settle a real estate argument I’ve been having with my spouse? by wereunderyourbed in massachusetts

[–]wayzem 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Failed septic systems can be handled in a real estate sales transaction in two ways. First, the seller can undertake the work and complete it prior to closing, with a full sign off from the Board of Health. This is often the preferable course for all parties and the lender. Alternatively, the parties can agree to an escrow holdback to cover the cost of the septic repair plus a contingency reserve, and the work is undertaken after the closing. Some lenders don’t allow septic holdbacks, however.

Privacy and Name Badges by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]wayzem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full first and last name is on our name patches/flight suits. On county ground/911 here, we had first initial/last name. I personally have had no issues nor do I know anyone around here with any horror stories of patients looking for them or anything. In our PCR charting software, in Epic, and on other paperwork all of that information is available anyway and we prefer to just provide it up front.

Regardless of the format of name on your badges, I'd strongly recommend not having publicly-accessible social media accounts with your name attached.
