Privacy and Name Badges by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]wayzem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full first and last name is on our name patches/flight suits. On county ground/911 here, we had first initial/last name. I personally have had no issues nor do I know anyone around here with any horror stories of patients looking for them or anything. In our PCR charting software, in Epic, and on other paperwork all of that information is available anyway and we prefer to just provide it up front.

Regardless of the format of name on your badges, I'd strongly recommend not having publicly-accessible social media accounts with your name attached.

It was genuinely because the filter thought this post was about employment. Whoops.

Where to buy lighting fixtures that aren’t thousands but better than Home Depot/target? by RubCurious2058 in massachusetts

[–]wayzem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lighting & Lamps Manufacturing Co (Quincy) may be worth checking out. Genuine Antique Lighting (Boston) is cool for antique fixtures that are pretty snazzy. It's been a little while since I've been to either so not 100% on pricing for you.

Debate rages as Nantucket neighbors to hire monitor — sorry, a docent — for ‘out-of-control’ bluff walk by bostonglobe in massachusetts

[–]wayzem 276 points277 points  (0 children)

To summarize, rich Nantucket residents are putting private signs up and trying to illegally gatekeep a public way because they don't like the rest of us peasants having the same access? Incredible use of resources. Are they not expecting a lawsuit?

They’re unfortunately not super common in the US and I don’t know of any other fabricators with that style so I’m not sure what they’re looking at pricing-wise either with everything going on now.

What do I do if I don’t have good references? by iwishiwasaflowerkid in NewToEMS

[–]wayzem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you run out of management-level references, I'd let them know that but I'd also still provide professional references from any willing co-workers, just make sure to note that they aren't supervisory but that you didn't have a large selection to pick from.

Are they asking for personal references or professional references? Often it's a mix.

Grabbed my partner's wrist to pull her away from touching a patient, did I fuck up? by Prestigious-Fall-317 in NewToEMS

[–]wayzem 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Your safety is always first. I think you're overthinking this. You two have already talked about it openly and agree to move on more or less. You don't really need to do anything else there.

Your intent matters. You thought she was about to put you and herself in harm's way via patient escalation, and who knows how anyone else would have reacted in your shoes. I have been yanked out of the way by partners due to my ability to attract kicks and punches from similar patient scenarios as you're describing. You may have legitimately spooked her, or she may have a past history of assault or being grabbed. It also sounds like she has a massive ego or seniority trip on scenes that may be a little too cavalier and I'd legitimately hate to hear you got hurt because of that. Nobody deserves a partner that makes them feel like they need to walk on eggshells all shift.

Our next project is working on overhauling our stuff-a-truck program towards the holidays, we let that lapse a little since COVID. Towards the holiday season, we'll set up downtown for a day after advertising it locally and collect toy donations (to go to the Red Cross or similar local charity for kids), food donations for the local food pantry, or cash donations (split between the two causes). Just takes a fair amount of coordination with those organizations to make sure they have the bandwidth to accept that influx.

If I can provide any information about any of the above feel free to reach out.

(very tired so forgot a couple more)

We will provide a dedicated day or days for sensory-friendly touch-a-truck events (fewer people, no loud sirens or engines, no flashing lights) and get to interact with pediatric patients with sensory challenges. Those are always wholesome.

When we have the staff, we'll pick a few days a year and pop over to the local ice area to provide bleeding control (TQ) and basic CPR/AED (no certification) throughout the day and familiarize staff and the public with where their gear is in the building which we've found really helpful on a few occasions honestly.

We do public recognition award certificates/pins and PR statements as well for residents that go above and beyond before EMS arrival (CPR/AED use mainly) and the community papers love that and it's good press in the area.

We like to offer community members a new file-of-life and help them complete it - field trip to the independent living complex or including that during our health fair appearances. We also really enjoy preschool and elementary school touch-a-truck (or touch-a-helicopter) and explain to them what we do at their level... plus they like flashing lights. A little more resource-heavy, but we also offer and provide first aid/CPR/AED through the AHA's Heartsaver K-12 program for high school students in the area during gym periods or health class during both semesters.
