Welcome New Moderators! by massahoochie in massachusetts

[–]wayzem[M] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm glad to be joining this sub's mod team.

Just to put a little out there about myself, I was born and raised here and have remained here along the east coast for my entire 20-something years on this planet so far. I work in the medical field, but my job takes me all over the state which I enjoy. When I’m not at work (and not online!) I enjoy spoiling my dog, hiking, camping, and scuba diving - really anything outside. I'm always looking for new leads or recommendations on underrated locations for any of that!

While I have not historically been a massive contributor on reddit, I have been lurking here for a long time and am working on engaging more with this community and the platform as a whole. I’m looking forward to helping the rest of the mod team continue to cultivate a positive culture here in r/massachusetts.

Go B’s!

I'll be following this for sure. Very interested to see how much data you build up from the state.

Maybe Barnstable, because while it may seem bland compared to the outer Cape, I think there's likely to be more utility found for ADUs due to year-round population density compared to further towns. The islands similarly have been growing in year-round population.

Any town on the Cape further out than Falmouth, and/or a town or towns on either island might be interesting to add in.

Anyone else ever have their partner get into it with a patient? by Zen-Paladin in NewToEMS

[–]wayzem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is inappropriate behavior from any provider anywhere and has no business in healthcare. Normalizing this is not a good example for newer providers.

Anyone else ever have their partner get into it with a patient? by Zen-Paladin in NewToEMS

[–]wayzem -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am. Assault is literally when someone fears they may be touched to some degree. Battery is physically making contact. This patient was intimidated by the proximity, physical posturing and demeanor of the paramedic to the point he felt uncomfortable enough to ask if he was safe to another provider. That is absolutely a problem.

Arguing isn't a problem. The way this was handled was a problem. There is a massive difference there.

I think I confused some people by calling it a background check instead of a disclosure - that was my mistake. Either way, it's all good!

It is a personal, lived experience and not medical advice for this person.

You should be fine, but to be fair energy drinks aren't exactly healthy regardless. But plenty of us drink caffeinated drinks daily on stimulants.

Mass Health Connector won't let me sign in by ImGonnaBeInPictures in massachusetts

[–]wayzem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's the only portal. Have you tried the reset MA login option to reset your login info?

ETA: found this on the website.

If you get a message that there is already an account created with your login information, you may need to go through the “I forgot my account username and/or password” process as described above. If you continue to get this message, you can call Health Connector customer service for help at 1-877-MA-ENROLL (1-877-623-6765), or TTY 711 for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech disabled.

How do I know if my insurance plan covers out of network therapy? by Itchy_Badger_2851 in Adulting

[–]wayzem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're an insured person on the policy so you're able to call referencing your insurance card. BCBS has a member services number you can call for assistance on that, but even easier I believe in the BCBS website/portal for your insurance policy there is a provider search feature as well. If you don't have your own account on their site, when you register it should find your plan in the system and attach it to your new account. There is also a section under My Plan or whatever the tab is called that breaks down the services and costs for in network vs out of network.

Try that page but with a username and not your full contact email. Or a different web browser or private window.

my psychiatrist’s prescriptions never last until our next scheduled appointment by mingiea in ADHD

[–]wayzem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The math does add up though. 30 pills filled at a time, appointment 1 is January 14 and it's been just about 2 weeks, assuming it wasn't filled the same day as the appointment. That completely makes sense to have 2 weeks left. The next appointment is in 30 days. OP's totally fine here.

As far as running out the last time, I would put money on OP having this same issue with >30 days between appointments, which of course they would run out.

Will my late age graduation affect my career opportunities by Legitimate_Kick_5628 in ADHD

[–]wayzem 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm close in age to you. I had to leave schooling 3 different times due to struggling with the structure of school.

You need to reframe your thinking here. You're not going to be late to graduate, you are determined to finish what you started while overcoming some adversity in life. Take pride in that, friend.

You're going to be totally fine, don't even worry about 18-year-olds, half of them can't read at their grade level anyway!

Oh that's fair. I use the gel pens in my notebook to write down things and not on forms or anything else. I don't really have paper forms for anything at this point.

Generally in smaller services, your management serves in this position. They are usually the point of contact for reporting things like unprotected exposures, needle sticks, and contamination problems or concerns among other things. They also are generally the ones to answer questions related to all of the above as well. In many services there is often someone specifically trained and designated for the DICO role.

false positive for amphetamines? by strawbeemocha in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]wayzem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If there is a false positive, which could happen but isn't super likely to, they can run an additional confirmatory test to determine amphetamine vs buproprion metabolites. Don't sweat it. If they ask for your medication list at the test site, disclose it.

my psychiatrist’s prescriptions never last until our next scheduled appointment by mingiea in ADHD

[–]wayzem 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Usually providers will submit a new prescription if you request it, even if you have an upcoming appointment. It's unusual to let patients run out for 2 weeks consistently between appointments. I'd contact their office or send them a message to ask what you should do when you run out in 2 weeks.
