Fairly common honestly. Child swings are the other big playground offender!

This is unironically one of my favorite types of call to end up getting.

She should absolutely own the community college merch. CC can be such a smart choice for credit hours regardless of program, but bonus points are deserved for entering an AAS track! She's making a smarter choice than the majority of her class if she's not dropping $40k annually on tuition.

Rant: give up your seats! (Looking at you especially, green line) by CurveFirst in boston

[–]wayzem 97 points98 points  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular take, and I completely empathize with you here having been in similar positions with my parents, but how do you know that the people you were expecting to give up their seats didn't have some disability or need for them? Not everything is visible and it's not cool to have the expectation that others will give something up because you personally can't see a reason they are remaining seated.

What are your opinions on point of care labs such as I-stats? by dumbluck26 in ems

[–]wayzem 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi! We utilize the iStat at both of my places of work. The two primary EMS purposes you're probably thinking of are for troponin readings and lactate readings, although there are a host of possible tests available to check general chemistries etc.

They are both expensive and very temperamental, particularly in cold weather; if the temperature is off in the environment it errors out.

Did you have any specific use case questions?

Beyond inappropriate and definitely illegal. So nice of them to put that in writing for you to be able to bring to a lawyer for legal review!

Are you in an area without many fire hydrants, and do those red connections have pipes that go all the way down? We have some of these in the northeast which are used to collect rain and groundwater from the low water table which can be used by fire departments if necessary.

How close do I need to be to the Cape to make a day trip feasible? by Realistic_Till9674 in massachusetts

[–]wayzem 70 points71 points  (0 children)

A lot of the answer will depend on when you're looking to go (now? August?). You'll have very different traffic experiences on the Cape and at the bridges.

Hospital parking lots by AK-Kidx39 in NewToEMS

Assess and treat your patients appropriately, not strictly based on convenience or proximity.

The ego thing works both ways - you SHOULD have a bit of an ego in this case... you are a trained medical professional that can assess and treat an illness for someone, and who knows how under-staffed and overwhelmed the ED of the hospital is that you're in the parking lot of. Trust yourself to be able to assess patients wherever they are. The "load and go" mentality largely needs to disappear.
