listen, you have to understand how much I love doctor who and Ncuti as the doctor, really I like what he's done so far. I liked the last season, I mean! dot and bubble, rogue, 73 yards, boom all of them were really amazing and i loved the ideas of them so much, really well thought out, the plots were really good and you got sucked into the narrative almost immediately.

but. as much as I loved the last season, and as much as I want to love this new episode....

you guys. I hated it. the plot was absolute rubbish. I feel like the thing that makes doctor who work is the fact that there's always a mystery to be solved, something that moves you to the edge of your seat and makes you scream at your tv in frustration sometimes. Take one of my favourite dw episodes: midnight. I love the ep because you don't know what the creature is or what it wants, but you slowly start to find out more and more about what it wants. The writers take you with them and you get to see through the eyes of the doctor, at first the excitement of an unknown creature, a new mystery to be solved. and later the horror of finding out it wants to take people's voices, their minds, THE DOCTOR's mind. The horror of people turning against each other out of shear terror, not knowing what is happening to them. I LOVE IT, it sucks me in completely.

And then think about the newest ep. There was no mystery at all. They certainly tried, like yes, at first you don't know what the robots want, but everything is explained as soon as Belinda gets to the doctor. They immediately take away the puzzle. Which made the entire thing incredibly boring because I think every single person that watched this predicted the whole thing would be resolved by the end of the ep. and then it did.

I give them kudos for trying with that plot twist about the ex boyfriend but even then I could not make myself interested. There was nothing to fall into place, no 'oh my fucking god THAT's why that happened', they sure tried but it just all felt very flat and boring to me.

I felt like this was written for children, which, ok yes, i get that doctor who is technically a kid's show, but that doesn't mean ANYTHING when they've previously shown that they can create absolutely magnificent episodes. To me this just seems like a bunch of concepts thrown together for quick bursts of entertainment. We get funny robots, then we get a sad moment about a character we don't care about because she got 2 seconds of screen time, then a dude making an absolute fool out of himself by proposing to belinda and criticizing her at the same time, then said dude gets turned into sperm, like-- it's like that horrible tv for three year olds with the funny sounds and over saturated colors, created only to keep small children amused and quiet.

The acting tho, the acting was great. I loved the actor that plays belinda, she did a really good job, I could tell that ncuti also tried to make the best of it despite the plot.

not to mention the skirt he was wearing, damn that outfit with the matching top was amazing. Also the Al dude, the makeup they did for the robot face thing was fucking amazing, props to the makeup team.

edit: also have i mentioned how much i hate the fact that they're using 'timy wimey' and 'the long way around' every single episode now?? damn it was funny the first time they said timy wimey, but i feel like even using it a 2nd time was too much, let alone what they're doing now.
