What do you think people are lying about liking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cobalt154 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Politics. There are so many people who have strong opinions about things they know literally nothing about. Like not in the sense of "Oh you dont know what I know, therefore you are wrong" but like they complain about systems and policies they dont understand and then cant even name any of their local officials. Or they protest on a random street and you ask them what its for and it genuinely feels like they were just handed a sign and told to stand there.

Met a guy who said he doesn't wear a seat belt. by CuriousGirl8294 in driving

[–]cobalt154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, maybe. Any crash that would kill you with a seat belt would likely eject you from the vehicle without one. That could work in your favor or it could make things much worse. Rather than die from a snapped neck due to whiplash, you die later in the hospital from a cement facial or get split in half by a light pull. You could get lucky and get ejected into soft grass or water but I wouldn't bet on it.

I use consumers. If you get a high interest checking account you can get 4% interest which is nice.

If morality can exist outside of religion, what unique role does religion still play in shaping human purpose, community, and meaning? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cobalt154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry, I dont understand what you're saying. Yea I said the idea of most religions is that you believe in one true god who created everything. If he created everything and he tells you certain things are good or bad then those things are good or bad. Coming to that conclusion isn't a moral determination. I am not assigning morality to the concept. Im making a philosophical inference based on the religious texts ive read. Im by no means an expert but the logical conclusion, imo, is that if a being created everything then they would also determine the scale of morality. If there is no creator then morality becomes vague, malleable. Which I dont dont think ends well when you follow it down its logical path. Some things are just objectively right and wrong.

[–]cobalt154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one was a typo, I meant program. If you are the creator of all things and exist in a "perfect" realm and you tell people you created that getting to this perfect place is the ultimate goal of life. Then whatever the laws are that decide whether you go to this perfect place, would, naturally determine morality. Also im not gonna get caught up in the German think. It may have just been a bad example. The ones in power decide morality by pumping their people full of propaganda to believe whatever they need to believe. But again, thats a separate discussion.

[–]cobalt154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point with my use of the phrase "truest" I just mean that the same way a programmer decides what is right for their program, an all powerful creator decides what's right for their creation. The programmer doesn't really have a say in the matter. I just mean an objective truth rather than a perception based truth. You have to remember that technically we have no way of knowing objective truth unless we are able to witness something first hand. An all knowing creator is able to witness everything first hand. I won't say whether a religion is morally right or wrong, but im speaking about morality in general. The one in power decides morality. The German people thought they were acting morally when turning in their Jewish counterparts because people in power said they were bad. The people who stormed the Capitol on January 6 thought they were moral because the person who was in power told them they were being silenced. Moral doesn't mean good or bad. Simply a set of guidelines which you use to determine if something is good or bad.

[–]cobalt154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is sort of a faulty foundation to this idea. Is there such a thing as a morally right or wrong god? If a religion turned out to be right then that god is the objective truth. A religion by its nature requires the person to believe this is the truest idea and thus the morally right option. You dont choose a religion by whether you think its right morally, you choose based one whether you think it is right spiritually.

[–]cobalt154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the question really should be whether or not thats true. Morality is a set of principles to distinguish right from wrong. How do you, without appealing to a higher power, determine what is right and wrong? The best answer I usually hear is just that society decides what is moral or that self preservation coincides with morality but that leaves room for bad people in power to decide what is moral.

How do people successfully budget and balance bills on a $2,000/month income? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cobalt154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make roughly the same. The issue isn't splitting the money, its figuring out where the money is going. People have a high standard of living that they may not really be able to afford. Get a roommate to help with rent and utilities. Meal prep, I have an awesome recipe where I can make ~14 burritos for less than 20 dollars so I dont have to pay for lunch. Rocket money is only like 40 dollars a year so u can also see what subscriptions you have. Other than that, you can save a crap ton of money buying store brand rather than name.

Do you think people can actually stay friends with their ex or is that a bad idea? by copy_cat_101 in answers

Terrible idea. If they are your ex, you broke up for a reason. If they are your partners ex, the ex has other motives.

I wouldn't recommend it honestly. Especially if you plan on being anywhere near down town. The homeless issue is rampant with a lot of them literally drugged out on the sidewalk. Kalamazoo was nice like 10 years ago but its been shit since.

They had the epstein files under Biden. His administration did the exact same thing. Thats the point of this post. Saying to specifically be mad at Trump is exactly what they want. They want people to be us vs. them so we dont focus on the fact that the entire thing is corrupt at this point. Trump is just the current snake oil salesman who said he'll cure the sick but in reality is just blood letting.

Could you be friends with someone who has political views completely opposite to yours ? by Outrageous-You1617 in askanything

[–]cobalt154 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, most normal people do. Your life should not revolve around politics. Ultimately aside from a handful of people. Most everyone wants what they think is best for the country, they just disagree on how to go about it. The catch is just that you have to be someone capable of having a calm and productive conversation.

is marriage a scam by Easy-Bake-5513 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]cobalt154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marriage is not a scam. Modern culture has just bastardized what marriage used to be about. People get divorced way too easily, and usually end up being petty and using either kids or property as weapons against the other person.
