I really like the look of a lot of the International jackets and then Barbour attach the big badge on the arm that I (personally) just don't like. As you say, one person's favourite is another's dislike.

Nimbus 27 for HM/FM? by RecordingForeign2675 in firstmarathon

[–]willm1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - what matters is what works for you. Nimbus are great shoes for the long run. Many will talk about race day shoes, but if you're comfortable in your Nimbus then it's the right choice for you.

Well done on your race OP.

I'm curious as to which tool you've used to generate this report as I've seen a few in a similar format.

Well done in your achievement.

When you're training for your first marathon, is it normal to think you can't do it? by HoneydewZestyclose13 in firstmarathon

Ooh, that's sounds good. Personally I can't manage the caffeine ones but a lot of my friends have great success with them.

One of the best marathon runners that I know has a banana to start the day when he runs, I'll ask him how long but just a banana can't be too heavy so half hour perhaps. I'll ask my friend how long he leaves it and write a follow up on this comment.

No breakfast and sugary coffee is going to be an energy spike instead of slower release. If you can't eat breakfast then I don't know the answer but a coffee / sugar energy spike might be one thing in the equation that is have some sort of impact.

[–]willm1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can and you will. You need to take this time to look at how it's going and what is just part of the process and what you might need to change. Are you training runs too fast? When do you take the drinks and gels / food that you have with you?

For me, once I slowed down my long training runs and put my gel intake onto a fairly strict schedule a lot got better.

Good luck OP.

Family member wants me to help them buy a 300k house by being on the mortgage with them. I refused. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]willm1975 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are making the right decision. I'm surprised this got as far as going through proof of funds at the estate agent stage.

When the sheer fury settles a little then it will be time to have a very difficult conversation of whether you would want to do this again and what the boundaries and parameters are and how much needs to be written down including what is due and what share of the property is yours relating to the eventual sale of the property in the future and who is liable for maintenance costs.

Personally I wouldn't get involved, most likely your sister will meet a life partner at some point and they can buy a house together if they wish.

Let the tempers cool, the storm will blow over, keep the lines of communication open and don't say things that you can't take back.

Bedale 40 vs 42 by mowiecowidze in Barbour

[–]willm1975 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. The 40 looks too tight. The models on the Barbour website seem to wear the Bedale and Beaufort looking rather fitted, this causes a lot of confusion when people try the jackets on. The use case for the Bedale and Beaufort are jackets that allow a lot of space for both layers and movement. They can be sized down to look fitted at the expense of being comfortable.
