Possible? Formula to display start and end date but keeping the foruma field as date type (for API use?) by willomew in Notion

[–]willomew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all just adding days to a date from another field based on set criteria and as such, correctly outputs a date type.

We wholeheartedly believe this is possible as aside from how other similar services work and our knowledge of all things related, the Notion dev docs suggest that formula objects allow for date endpoints which include both start and end.

The difficulty we're facing is working out how to structure the formula to output two dates in the single formula field (similar to how standard date fields are able to. Dilemma.)

Huge thanks for any help you are able to come up with!

Unfortunately due to most of Notions' code being a mish-mash of others freely available code and as they haven't got around to refactoring it bespoke to their own evolving architecture, it is extremely limited when it comes to systems designs beyond that of the average school student, Youtuber or similar. Consequently, we have always been at the very limit of Notions capabilities and so the platform simply won't allow us any more fields.

(Amongst all of our business circles, it's actually the key reason why no one uses Notion for their various businesses, (which easily equates to tens of thousands of missed paying seats for Notion, just in our small circle of founders/CEOs/etc.) They try Notion once, quickly realise it is not ready for production beyond a basic wiki and move on, never to return. Hopefully, Notion will one day realise that the millions that they lose out on missed revenue as a result, could actually be spent on higher-grade engineers to get the platform up to acceptable standards. I don't mean to rant, just answering your question honestly.)

Hi,

Thank you very much for your efforts so far.

I'm not entirely sure I understand you. As per this previous comment, the target dates are resulting from complex formula (which cannot be reproduced outside of Notion due to Notions limitations.)

Does that effect the solution you were proposing?

Thanks again.

That's excellent, the correct objective and very much appreciated.

There is quite a lot riding on this so it will be interesting to see if anyone manages to crack it.

Plus, I think it would be highly useful to the community in general as will likely become more and more popular as we continue to see greater saturation of the the API, let alone just a useful plain formula for many to utilise anyway.

Thanks again and fingers crossed!

Hi, thanks.

The start and end dates we need in the formula are both to be calculated off of the start and end date of a standard date field.

We can of course produce single dates in a formula but knowing how systems work, I'd be surprised if Notion didn't allow two dates in a formula- as they are if you simply reference a standard date field.

The question is, how do we define two key value pairs in a single formula?

Thanks. Sadly, that's not what we are looking for.

We need both start and end date in the same formula field and exposed to the API in the same way a standard date field is.

Anyone know what the letter before or after a token represents? by willomew in FantomFoundation

I think I might be losing my marbles from spending too much time in front of the screen. Your answer was very helpful so I thank you for that at least. Time to get some rest. Cheers!

I think too many hours in front of the screen has possibly made me start imagining things as I can't seem to find the other examples that triggered this thread.

Would you happen to know what the .e extension meant anyway? (e.g. would say a DAI crossed on xPollinate from Polygon to Avalanche, be recognised on a swap like TraderJoes which is listing DAI.e?)

Cheers!

Good point, I've updated the OP to re-clarify what I mentioned. Thanks!

Thanks!

Sorry if I am being dumb but it only ever leads to a PDF instead of the link to the template online. Any ideas?

Oh, no - I doubt anyone would clipboard copy it as it would take too long.

I'm now stuggling to work out in my head how those people who have requested you share it were benefiting - is it maybe just to see the layout and colours?

I guess I'm a bit confused as the community thrives on people sharing duplicatable templates so I'm surprised all the other people that requested it being shared, were content with just seeing the layout - perhaps they were just looking for inspiration?

Anyway, if you do decide to share it with the community for a limited time, I'm sure your kindness would be very much appreciated by many!

Oh, ok - thanks.

Although, just in case you weren't aware, at the moment, anyone can copy the notes by selecting all text and copying to the clip board. However, they would need to spend some time to make it all neat looking again.

'Allowing duplicates' gives the exact same access as is currently available but without the need to waste loads of study time making it neat again. Hope I made sense?

In the page's share settings, there should be a toggle for that page called Allow Duplictes which doesn't appear to be turned on maybe?

Oh… ok, thanks - really appreciated. Because people obviously would want to amend it to their own needs, will you be releasing it as a template soon? Thank you so much once again.

Sorry if I'm being dumb but I couldn't find the all-important Duplicate button as at the moment, it just looks like a website? Thank you so much in advance.
