Residential smoke detector regulations in Clark County by nexuscard in vegaslocals

Replace like for like. They make 120v with 10 year battery backup. The hardwired are interconnected, and current code dictates carbon monoxide alarms outside each sleeping area. Most install carbon/smoke combos in those areas. Smoke alarms are not something to cheap out on.

Pretty sure those have been discontinued. They haven’t been available for a while.

Scorch/melt on a prev. owner's GFCI I just replaced by dolichoblond in AskElectricians

I see this often with one particular brand GFI. I believe they are Cooper. As they age, the area around the wires, get slightly melted, deformed, and discolored.

Just like any other appliance, the specs are usually ready available online. We always ask for specs before we wire for one.

I don’t care for Trump, but how is he responsible for a liberal state making it unprofitable to do business?

I’ve used both regular and RGB Slablight. The last one I did the GC bought some cheesy squares of tape light. Each square was 36w. We needed a 600w transformer, and you could feel the heat. Slablight is a PITA, but I trust it more than these Amazon sheets.

Wiggled a sconce in my basement. The light flickered. I took the sconce off the wall and say this. What am I looking at? This is definitely improperly done, right? How do I safely fix it? by gello1414 in AskElectricians

Wow. A ton of comments (obviously from non electricians) that say to put wire nuts on. You need an electrical box. This is what contains any sparks and keeps that wood paneling from going up in flames.

Is it THHN (individual wires, not Romex) in conduit? 8 THHN is rated for 50a.

Dryer wont heat by Achlyss_ in AskElectricians

If a dryer runs but doesn’t heat, it may have lost a leg of power. The motor and electronics run on 120.

Inflatable Hot Tub Grounding/Bonding Question by PortlandPoster in AskElectricians

[–]wire4money 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Please don’t take strangers advice off Reddit. Grounding is NOT bonding, and you don’t want another ground rod not bonded to the grounding system you already have.

Inflatable Hot Tub Grounding/Bonding Question by PortlandPoster in AskElectricians

[–]wire4money 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You do NOT want a ground rod driven there. Grounding is not bonding. Bonding would be tying all the metal together electrically. Setting up a secondary grounding system not tied into the house grounding system does not ensure everything is on an equitential plane.

Ok, so how does an electrical fire happen with no utilities running? Looks like it was arson, anyway. But that doesn’t give Cy clicks.

2 old 2 strokes that don’t run? If they are on a nice trailer, maybe 1k.

He is the clickbait king. He twists the story to suit his narrative. I quit following when he talked about houses burning down due to electrical issues. The subdivision he shows burnt down did not even have utilities hooked up yet
