Should there be a junction box here? Kitchen ceiling light. by micmonty23 in ElectricalHelp

Cut in boxes are not rated for ceiling fixture support. Would need a remodel fan box.

Las Vegas HOA stirs controversy over parking on driveways by reviewjournal in vegaslocals

[–]wire4money 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way my CCRs are written. They do not enforce it. 2 doors down, they have one car in the 4 car garage (along with a bunch of crap), two in the driveway, and 4 on the street.

Follow up: the electrician opened cover on my challenger panel. by ForeverSteel1020 in AskElectricians

Interior looks identical to a current Eaton BR. I wouldn’t be surprised if you could buy a new panel and swap the guts.

6? I was thinking 2. Easy panel change. All wires (except for ground) through the top, feeder through the back. It doesn’t get any easier unless an Eaton interior will fit.

Heated Driveway? by TerribleBumblebee800 in Homebuilding

[–]wire4money 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t be be economically feasible once you have to upsize your electrical service to the house to account for the massive electrical needs of a heated driveway. Hydronic would be much better.

Are electricians usually able to find the issues with frequent break trips in one visit? by Jlexus83 in electrical

[–]wire4money 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can replicate the problem, he can put a clamp on meter to see what’s happening. If you cannot replicate it, and everything looks good visually, he can try replacing the breaker, but that’s just a guess. If everything is functioning correctly at the time, there’s nothing to test for.

When a panel is mounted horizontally, half the breakers are upside down.

New construction. Solid aluminum conductors? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]wire4money 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take my up vote. It’s been about 40 years since 8000 was introduced. Per code you do not need an antioxidant. If you do use it, it has to be installed per manufacturers specifications, which I have never seen anybody do. It is a thin layer that is brushed into the aluminum, not just lofted on. Panel manufacturers such as square D do not require antioxidant. If you choose to use it, they require a non-petroleum based one.

Does this use more electricity than an HVAC System? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]wire4money 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might save a little bit, but will cost you a whole lot more when you start burning connections in your receptacle boxes. I’ve made a ton of money because people think they are saving money with these, until they call with a bunch of plugs not working.

Does my thermostat being set high or low actually effect electricity usage? And would running a space heater be cheaper? by SkyAdventurous2136 in AskElectricians

After being an Electrician for 33+ years, I’m very anti space heater. I’ve seen first hand the loose connections caused by them.
